Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers is running low on time to put together a difference-making trade before Thursday’s draft, writes Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle. The team’s stars are urging Myers to swap his lottery picks at Nos. 7 and 14 to add another veteran, but Letourneau points out that the chances of a deal getting done will drop significantly if the framework isn’t in place by the time the Warriors are on the clock.
Myers has been searching for a major acquisition since Golden State was knocked out of the play-in tournament, but many of the names that have been linked to the Warriors, such as Myles Turner, Pascal Siakam, Ben Simmons, Bradley Beal and Damian Lillard, would require a huge return that may include James Wiseman and Andrew Wiggins along with the picks. Letourneau notes that any team trading with Myers would want a say in who gets taken with the two lottery selections, so there’s an urgency to get a deal worked out before the draft begins.
There’s more on the Warriors:
- Simmons can probably be crossed off Golden State’s list, Letourneau adds. The Sixers want an All-Star player in return for the 25-year-old, and a source says the Warriors aren’t willing to meet Philadelphia’s price.
- Being drafted by Golden State would be an ideal situation, Australian guard Josh Giddey tells Jason Dumas of KRON4 (video link). “Playing with guys like (Stephen Curry) and Klay (Thompson) who are so good without the ball and moving without it, for a passer like myself I think it’s a dream world,” Giddey said. “To be around those guys — the veterans — and to learn from two of the best guards of all time would be such a bonus, and obviously Draymond (Green) is known for being a high-level leader and then under Steve Kerr’s coaching system there is just so many good things about the Warriors.”
- The Warriors hosted Jonathan Kuminga Friday in Miami for a private workout and dinner, tweets Jonathan Givony of ESPN. The G League Ignite forward has met with every team holding the third through eighth picks. Golden State officials also watched Alperen Sengun work out in Miami, a source tells Givony (Twitter link). The Turkish center is considered a possible candidate to be taken at No. 14.
They should deal to NO for Adams. Give them some size they could use. Wiggins to NO?
No
Why ????
No
The A+ offseason: Get Myles Turner and either Beal or LaVine while keeping the big 3 as well as Wiseman, Poole, JTA and Looney. Bye all the picks.
Or get Cade, give up whatever to get him, or do a huge trade with Detroit to line up the teams assets better, GSW gets all the ready-now guys, DET gets all the other under 22’s and projects, along with it being a Cade-Wiseman swap.
Myles Turner AND Beal or Lavine? While keeping Big 3? Are you like 12? Lmao AWFUL 2k offer.
Marty, I don’t think you know how a professional NBA team’s cap works. I really thought you were knowledgeable but that would put them over close to $100M over the cap. You do realize this isn’t MLB right?
No, he hasn’t a clue. None of those things are remotely possible so Golden State will have to settle for a D+ off-season.
It’s not that hard. Wiggins out for Beal, Oubre sign and trade for Turner. But highly unlikely they don’t part with Wiseman in that scenario IMO
Let’s just put this to bed… salary matching is a real thing. If you’re thinking they’ll S&T Oubre straight up for Beal or LaVine or Tuner you’re on some serious sauce.
And Wiggins + 7 + 14 isnt enough to get Siakam let alone Beal.
LMAO thank you Phillyballers. Adam Silver Will not allow another superteam ever. Hence GSW and Cleveland running it four straight years.
Lillard and Simmons is out. sakiam is too much of a gamble since they would need to trade Wiggins and Wiseman for him. Coming off a serious injury its not worth the risk. Beal the cost would be too high unless you get back Adija back in the deal for Wiggins, Wiseman and a #7 pick.
Turner is the most likely of the trades happening. If they could do a sign and trade with Oubre and a pick.
If the end its looking more likely no trade happens unless a team comes way down from their asking price for these players.
They are trading for sure, just in the final offer stages. My guess is Siakam.
Say no to Siakam
Target Brogdon and Turner
You wouldn’t get half Beal for that let alone getting Deni
It would be Wiggins Wiseman 7 , 14, 22′ unprotected and 26′ unprotected to start the convo
I wouldn’t do it if I was GSW, but that’s what his market will take to win the bid for GSW
That is why it will not happen. Beal is not worth it. Warriors will be even worse after the trade since their bench will be a bunch of G leaguers. No starting center but Looney. That team would suck .
You’ve got to be kidding me
Wiggins play better defense and have much more efficient than Beal
Wiggins and 7 for Beal is more than enough
Say hell no to Wizards
finally. personality.
This may be the craziest think you’ve ever said before on this site and that’s saying a lot.
Wiggins, for however much he has improved with the Warriors, is a clear negative asset with that contract. Not as much as before, but still not the easies to move.
If offered this the Wizards would laugh uncontrollably for a full minute, then hang up the phone. Call back to laugh for another 30 seconds and hang up again. And I’m not even a Beal stan.
Warriors get Turner and Warren
Pacers get Wiggins and 7
Warriors take one of below
Murphy
Giddey
Kispert
Duarte
The best player the Warriors can hope to get in any trade will be Eric Gordon. Unless they are willing to trade their only truly valuable asset, Steph Curry.
Gordon? No thanks a over paid 6th man off the bench.
I wouldn’t go crossing Ben off the GSW list quiet yet, can always find a 3rd team –
I think Ben should be their target
If they are REALLY interested in Turner, debatable, that’s not a good look for what they think of Wiseman internally . I don’t think that’s where their minds are at right now tho
Wiseman, Wiggins, 7/14 to Washington
Beal to Philly
Simmons and Thybulle to Golden State
Picks and auxiliary players may need to be added or subtracted but I think that general framework gets it done, assuming Golden State wants Simmons over Beal.
I think you’re both right Surfer69/CapnCrunch. If the team says they want Beal, you can rest assured they want Simmons instead. It’s just how things work. You don’t release what or who you want in the media.
If the W’s trade Wiseman, they will regret it as much as the disastrous trade of Robert Parrish forty years ago . I’m 70 and remember that trade well. I am not predicting that Wiseman will be a Hall of Fame like Parrish as I couldn’t possibly know that. I’ll just point out that Parrish’s rookie year was not as good as Wiseman’s and Parrish was 23 years old as a rook after FOUR full years in college.
A bit outside da box: trade both picks, wiseman and curry for Giannis. He just won a championship and MVP and you would be set forever.
because you want to pi$$ off the entire midwest?
Yeh the Bucks are doing that trade, sure…
Myers has a great trio of trade assets (Wiseman, #7 and #14), but not the easiest to package to one team even alone. The trade partner would have to desire a high end young C, or its a multi-team deal. Add in that they most likely have to unload Wiggins in the deal, and it becomes a more complicated multi-team deal.
IND is interested in trading Turner, first, due to their perception (right or wrong) that he and Sabonis are both really C’s (and thus not a great fit), and the related reason is payroll heading toward the tax the next couple of years. So, they likely wouldn’t be interested in Wiseman (who is less of a fit next to Sabonis than Turner) or Wiggins (with his toxic contract) for themselves.
GSW, apart from their targets, should have already identified the teams that are willing to pay up for Wiseman, and/or are willing to take on Wiggins’ contract for relatively modest compensation. I assume they have, but if not, the odds of a pre-draft or draft day deal are low.
Trading Wiseman is idiotic. He can help you next yr. And he’s the future. Why would Warriors need another star. Only if Klay is not ready or could take longer than expected. Or he’s never the same guy. His shooting will always keep him around. If I’m Wizards I definitely take Wiseman and the picks plus Wiggins. I believe Warriors will trade. But it’s looking like they will overpay to get back to prominence. Just adding Barnes to their team for Obrue and future pick. Makes them a playoff team. You sign good vets for the bench. And you are a good playoff team. Seems like they are not banking on Klay. It’s the right move to give him time to get right. But don’t gut the team out of desperation either. 7 n 14 this yr are going to be future starters. Could even hit big on one of them. I think Siakam might be their best option. He’s ready now and wants some redemption. No better way to get your respect. Than with a Finals run or 2,3.
Only a rebuilding team wants those warrior draft picks no team still fancies itself a contender touches picks and Wiseman for a beal Simmons and the rest in my opinion.
I don’t believe in Myers to rebuild a championship team in one summer even with all those assets
Just keep the picks and Wiseman. With Klay back they’ll be pretty good next year and can make a move at the deadline if they need too.
Much like the Lakers why should anyone help GS get better and start winning again. How does that help the fans of Jazz,Mavs,Nuggets, etc.
Nyfan, you don’t make a trade thinking how it might affect the other team. You make a trade thinking how it will improve your own team. Who gives a rip what happens to the Warriors if I’m dealing with them to get some of their assets? They could sink or swim I don’t really care if I’m New York in a trade.
That could be Red Sox Yankee attitude but I don’t even think that’s true. Many guys have exchanged Pinstripes for red and vice versa.
Jbutte, there is absolutely NO WAY way and NO CHANCE the Warriors keep their picks and go young this offseason. That is not happening, no chance, 0%… they are absolutely focusing on acquiring veterans to plug in. Write that in stone.
I don’t know when it’ll happen, probably before the draft or during the draft but it’s going to happen. You don’t burn another year of Curry with projects. And.. you’re NOT going to draft Davion Mitchell and Chris Duarte 7 and 14 when those guys should be 14 and 20.
I’ll say this right here and I might repeat it next week when we get to the draft.
If you guys think Bob Myers is going to go young and keep his draft picks and keep James Wiseman, the smartest thing to do would be trade Steph Curry NOW for a boatload of more projects and more young guys and more future. That’s how off the wall keeping Weisman + 7 + 14 would be !!
Obviously trading Curry is not happening any time soon, so that means veterans are coming in and James Wiseman is gone. Can you hear the Warriors talk about how they’re going to keep and develop James Wiseman? That means he is out of there. When you sell a car you don’t tell everybody you don’t want it because it’s not meeting your expectations. You tell people it’s a great car and your sorry you have to let it go LOL. Just my opinion if course and we’ll see how it all plays out.
