Before they agreed to a deal with the Pelicans that sent Jonas Valanciunas to New Orleans and the No. 10 pick to Memphis, the Grizzlies made it “pretty far down the road” in talks with the Kings about a similar trade, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on his latest Hoop Collective podcast.
According to Windhorst, the deal the Grizzlies and Kings discussed would’ve involved Marvin Bagley III and the No. 9 pick going to Memphis, with Valanciunas heading to Sacramento. It’s not clear what other pieces were included in those discussions.
Here are a few more items of note from Windhorst’s podcast:
- Kyle Lowry has frequently been cited as the Pelicans‘ top point guard target in free agency, but the team would also be interested in making a run at Chris Paul, believing his connection to former Phoenix assistant Willie Green could help sell him on a return to New Orleans, says Windhorst. However, according to Windhorst, the feeling around the NBA is that Paul will ultimately stick with the Suns.
- Discussing the Raptors‘ decision to select forward Scottie Barnes with the No. 4 pick, Windhorst suggested that Toronto has “offered Pascal Siakam around” this offseason. An earlier report indicated that some teams believe the Raptors will become more inclined to pursue a Siakam trade with Barnes in the fold.
- Confirming some other reports that have surfaced in recent days, Windhorst says the Sixers‘ asking price in Ben Simmons talks has been extremely high. Windhorst’s take on the offers he has heard about: “(They’ve been) so aggressive and outlandish that it makes you walk away saying, ‘They’re not really trying to trade him.'”
Would you trade Andrew Wiggins straight up for Ben Simmons? I wouldn’t
Warriors would, sixers wouldn’t
If you were the warriors, you wouldn’t trade Wiggins for Simmons?
You’d be stupid not to trade Wiggins straight up for Simmons. Good grief
Now you’re just being ridiculous. Simmons is much better than Wiggins. The warriors would trip over themselves to make that trade.
Ben Simmons is overrated but he’s better than Wiggins. Wiggins,Wiseman and a pick seems fair.
Equal value
Simmons + Maxey = Wiggins + Moses Moody + Paschall
NOT TRADING MAD MAX!!
Silli stop equating Wiggins to anything. His contract makes him a negative. Get in the world
Have you ever looked at Wiggins per 100? If you only looked at that, you’d say hes a bench player. You’re best attribute is scoring, and his ORtg has never been above 107. Ben Simmons doesn’t even know how to shoot a jumpshot and his lowest ORtg is 111.
When you talk about inefficiency, you talk about Andrew Wiggins and Collin Sexton yr 1 and yr 2 (he improved substantially from yr 1 to yr 3).
Stats as hollow as those chocolate Santas and Easter Bunnies.
I don’t know why u try to reason with the people on here. They clearly don’t know basketball. Wiggins is TRASH
Agreed Wiggins is mediocre.
But you get out of that contract after 2 years.
I def do this trade if im 6ers. Get out of the Simmons contract and land a tradeable asset in the process
I am probably on an island with this opinion, but I think Ben Simmons is going to turn it around in a big way.
Turn it around from being a perennial all-star & the best defender in the league? Lol don’t let these idiots fool u, real 1s know that Bennie is clearly one of the best basketball players in the world
Yet somehow the Sixers can’t get squat for him in a trade. Weird.
what makes you think they cant get anything? lmao
“Bennie” isn’t one of the best players in the world bud. He is on a different level defensively and can dish the ball as well as anyone his size but to be “one of the best basketball players in the world” you have to shoot the ball. And if you’re incapable of that, you at the very least have to have the confidence to drive to the basket. Simmons does neither and an off-season with all eyes looking at you and your team insisting that your value is higher than anyone else in the league is a not a recipe for success, especially with his already weening confidence.
Some wild say if you make 1st team All NBA defense you are indeed one of the best players in the w-o-r-l-d you know since it’s not like 200000 players are 1st team all nba defense.
No he definitely is—in the sense anyone in the NBA is one of the top couple hundred best players in the world
But he’s A) not the best defender in the league, and B) regressing as an offensive player despite being 25 years old.
C) He had one of the most embarrassing playoff performances in recent memory.
Stick to telling everyone that John Collins averaged 20 and 10 for two seasons.
@Sankara Could you PLEASE join us in the real world? Everyone knows he’s unique in being a 6’10 point guard with great passing skills. We all know he’s a great defender. But he is in his 5th season and has not shown any improvement or even dedication to improve his shooting beyond 5ft from the hoop or his FT shooting. When you’re so bad you’re scared to shoot in the 4th quarter because you might be fouled then you are an ineffective liability. And while defense is important no nba team wants to pay you $30 mil a year to do so. Wake up and realize that.
Simmons is a rich man’s Draymond, and that’s not saying much. They’re two of the most overpaid players in the NBA, far more than John Wall is. The Sixers are having almost as hard a time trading Simmons as the Warriors would trying to trade Dray. No one wants to pay top dollar for players who can’t score, no matter how good a defender or passer they are.
If the warriors put Green up for trade the phone would be ringing off the hook. It is known clippers, lakers, and Trailblazers all have said they want Green on their team.
If after all this trade talk and criticism he comes back next season with a similar approach, that is, unable to fix his offensive problems, I would start to think no blood runs thru his veins
He needs to start shooting with the correct hand before that will happen.
We’ve been waiting on him to have and use a passable jumpshot for years. We aren’t drinking the koolaid anymore.
I think he’ll get worse
Wish the Grizz would have made that trade as opposed to the one they did with NoLa…
Bagley would have been a bad asset in return on a better deal… + Grizz overpaid that #10 reach pick they could have swap the #17 and JV to Spurs also
Ben Simmons >>>> Your favorite player
Im not that high on Pascal and his contract remaining , sounds like Tor isn’t either –
If GSW strikes out on bigger fish feel free to give me a call up in Toronto for Wiggins + value.
Luke you started the article with a clause. That’s something I might do but that’s not necessarily a compliment.
Really both options should be spelled out to avoid confusion as most readers will want to weigh the options.
I have read elewhere the Grizzlies were motivated by wanting Giddey, who went #6.
There’s more to the story still
Well a busy week
