AUGUST 10: Igoudala’s new deal with the Warriors is now official, the team announced today in a press release.
AUGUST 6: Free agent forward Andre Iguodala has agreed to return to the Warriors, telling Jonathan Abrams of The New York Times that he’ll sign a one-year deal with Golden State. His intention is to finish his career with the franchise.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic (Twitter link), Iguodala – like fellow free agents Otto Porter and Nemanja Bjelica – will receive the veteran’s minimum from Golden State.
A report on Thursday indicated that Iguodala – who became a free agent after the Heat turned down his $15MM team option – had narrowed his choices down to the Warriors, Lakers, and Nets, while a follow-up report this morning from Jordan Schultz of ESPN (Twitter link) suggested the decision would likely come down to Brooklyn vs. Golden State.
In the end, the opportunity to reunite with the Warriors won out for the 37-year-old, who previously earned three titles with the team.
“Who would have thought I’d have the opportunity to go back to the place where I was able to have, whatever you want to call it, legacy years, in terms of the accomplishments, winning multiple championships, the relationships that I was able to build with some of my closest friends and teammates?” Iguodala said. “The relationship with the fans, the relationship with the Bay, the opportunity to end it here, was just something special.”
Iguodala, who routinely averaged between 15-20 points per game for the 76ers early in his NBA career, is no longer much of an offensive threat, having put up just 4.4 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 2.3 APG on .396/.323/.585 shooting in 84 games (20.9 MPG) over the last two seasons in Miami.
However, the veteran forward remains a reliable, versatile defender and brings veteran leadership to a locker room. He told Abrams that he’s looking forward to taking on a mentor role for the Warriors’ young players.
As for how much longer Iguodala plans to spend in the league before his retirement, that decision remains up in the air, as Abrams relays.
“I think I’ve got some more time left,” Iguodala said. “Where I’m comfortable at is I can decide when I’m ready to go. I think I want to leave with just a little bit left. I don’t want to go out on one leg. I know I’ve got a few more years. It’s just my decision whether it’s one or two or three or whatever it may be. I shouldn’t even say three. One or two.”
Playoffs!
Playoffs maybe, but it won’t be because of this signing.
#1 seed locked and loaded. No better team in the West than this one.
Marty remind Laker fans that the Lakers were pursuing him and tried to out bid the warriors for his service when they come here to pretend it doesn’t matter.
Oh, I saw that. Suddenly they go quiet, as usual.
I’m all-in on selling Schroeder on a “beat the Lakers at any cost” deal because he might actually do it, and become a better player from it along the way.
I don’t think “outbid” would the correct term to use when he signed for the minimum.
Yes Iggy signed for the minimum but arc89 said the Lakers came in trying to outbid them. Perhaps they offered more money? Outbid is a fine term to use the way he used it.
there were 3 teams wanting Iggy. From what I read Lakers and Knicks both came in with strong offers. Iggy picked GSW because he loves the organization. Warriors been out bid for a few players this week. If everything stays the same Warriors have room for only 1 more player.
Decent move. Seems like he’s been on a minute restriction for eight years lol. But his presence aside from his playing ability, will be HUGE for the young guys.
Interesting replacing all the low IQ/high ceiling “athletic” types with sky-high IQ/bad body types. I can see Moody playing way more minutes than anyone expected, just because the injury situation will always be there.
I wouldnt call Wiggins, Kuminga, or Wiseman high basketball IQ guys, but at least the young guys have a chance to fix that, and hopefully, kuminga being around wiggins helps him see how he shouldnt be. Reminds me of Wiggins, but also, a remedial version of Luol Deng, with a lot less motor and a lot lower basketball IQ. Hopefully being around those guys helps him, b/c that is still a super talented player with high upside
Kuminga and Wiseman are teenagers. You can’t expect them to be high IQ players at that age. Even Ball ROY made a lot of bone head mistakes and was put on the bench for his bad plays.
Which is why I said there is still time to help them out, although Kuminga’s awareness defensively sometimes…I’m just saying, the Wiggins comp is pretty legit…which again, should arguably be a good thing, so hopefully being around those people will help him
With Wiggins its more about his personality. He is too passive and needs to be more aggressive. Now with Iggy on the team Wiggins might be sitting on the bench during the 4th quarter more.
Ya Kuminga has that disappearance factor as well
Why do you say that? From the way he talks he has the drive to be a good player.
I’ve watched him play 10 plus times, and then also watched a lot of film on him. It’s also in the scouting reports, which I usually read after I’ve seen a certain amount on players, so it doesnt influence me. That being said, sometimes you see guys surprisingly change in their time before their draft…B/c these are young guys, and they’re still growing.
also to clarify, and to reiterate, he is still super talented. I’m not saying he isnt. I’m just saying that when I saw him, Andrew Wiggins jumped out at me, and I would also say shades of Luol Deng with much lower motor, much lower basketball IQ, and without a jumpshot, which again, should be considered a good thing, and I’ll be interested to see how he grows/improves, hopefully unlike what we saw from Wiggins over his first 7 years…I also am curious to see how they use him, and where he gets opportunities in the rotation, with his current fit with certain other guys could cause spacing issues, unless, of course, he improves in certain areas really quickly, which is possible
I see Kuminga playing a lot in the G league learning to play rotations. Also let’s see how he responds to playing with GSW big 4 vets. Problem I had with oubre his drive to be better was never there. Wiggins was pushed by Green and Curry is why he became a better player. Poole drive to be a better player made him a big asset. So if Kuminga can have the same drive to be a better player there should be no problem.
@formerlyz I was not talking about those three, I was talking about Oubre, Bazemore and Wanamaker being replaced by Bjelica, Iggy and OPJ.
Ya I like the theoretical team if they’re able to stay healthy…assuming they play the way I think they will. Hopefully they dont try to force certain things with Wiseman, or spacing wise with Kuminga with certain other guys together.
I think if they keep Nico and GP2 as the 2-way players, and let them cook at Santa Cruz with Wiseman and Kuminga for say, the first 30 games of the season, and then bring up the big prospects, that will be 100000000% better than starting the big 2 on GSW on Opening Night.
I love GP2 a lot. I think he’s way better than Nico, but Nico is cookin in the Olympics right now, that’s no small feat. GP2 helps this season for sure, Nico might be a year off still, along with Wiseman and Kuminga.
I would keep Payton on 1 of the roster spots, and let him take the Shaun Livingston role, and Mannion would stay on 1 of the 2 way deals…I told you you would like Payton lol
LETS GO!!!!!
Well, there you go…and honestly if the Heat weren’t bringing him back, I’m happy he ended up back there
Iggy is back!!! Not the player he was but a great bench piece. Upgrade over Oubre off the bench.
He still is the same defensively, as a playmaker, and basketball IQ wise. That’s all that matters
Nah, he looked kinda cooked a lot of his time on the Heat, to be honest. I don’t expect him to play more than 20 MPG, he’s 38 now. He’s primed to be a “burst” player only, along with GP2.
He doesnt need to play more than that, at least until it matters more. That’s not much less than he played his last year in GS anyway…and I’m telling you, he isnt cooked. I’ve watched him workout 1-2 hours before the game several times literal feet away from me. And he still does all the nuances defensively, and still has some of the best hands defensively I’ve ever seen in my life…Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro are also going to really miss him
Right, but I watched him a bunch on the Heat…whenever the Warriors weren’t on…because I love him as a person/player so much, and he stunk in the 20 or times I saw him. Looked too slow and just pressed at all times. Might have something to do with no Draymond+Splash Bros, but again, he’s 38. I wanted Kyle Korver last year on GSW to fill out the bench and was shouted down “he’s cooked, hes too old” when he was…38.
I dont know what you were watching then. The Heat arguably need him right now themselves. I almost would have been fine paying him
He is a 16 game player now. You use him sparingly in the regular season then up his time a bit in the playoffs.
This guy is washed. Has been for two years. He’s there as a player coach. Probably be on Kerr’s staff next season.
wants to finish in GS? smh
He wants to finish with the most rings possible.
So why didn’t he go to LA or Brooklyn….or the 3 or 4 OTHER teams that have a wayyyyy better shot at winning a chip than GSW? ;)
Are you just trolling? What is your objection to someone wanting to finish their career with Golden State?
The absolute funniest thing about Iggy leaving was almost 100% of the time he ever spotted outside, he was always still wearing GSW merch, even while on Miami, lolol
Apparently theres still some “moving parts” in the Oubre deal?

Interesting. Thank you for the link. Wonder what’s up Charlotte’s sleeve here?
Steph for Lemelo–KIDDING
Smily for Lemelo! FTW
Very nice. It’s how it should be. He’s got enough to help their bench.
Only warriors fans think of this as a good signing.
Nets and Lakers MANAGEMENT can be added as well.
Only Lakers and maybe Nets fans hate this signing.
If so, that is because Warrior fans understand what his value has been and can still be to the Warriors (hint: it is not based on his regular season scoring avg)
So here we are. Decent off-season so far especially after watching the rookies in the summer league game in Sacramento. Yes the Rooks are going against nobodies but hey, they look nice.
All Dubs need now is a backup guard like.., Reggie Jackson.., and/ or an affordable Ben Simmons trade like Wiggins and Poole and a first-round pick in the future for Big Ben. That would be sweet.., we know the cost has come down..
As I said on the other thread, and now they have Iguodala since, I think 1 of Mulder or Damion Lee are gone, and that’s probably it, besides their 1 2 way spot, assuming they keep Mannion on the other one…
Also I wouldnt say they played against nobodies. The first game Davion Mitchell, Robert Woodard, Luis King all started, and they’re all NBA players. Emanuel Terry is also an energy big that started. They also had a couple of interesting guys off the bench like Matt Coleman, whi is a guard that can defend and playmake, and a couple of interesting energy defenders…and then against the Heat, Stus played, and they have some guys as well, like Marcus Garrett, and Jabonte Smart is like a remedial Dion Waiter/Kendrick Nunn/stronger Reggie Jackson type, plus some other interesting defenders, and Turk Nowitski
…*sigh* I hate touchscreen…
I would think Mulder is gone and Lee stays. Lee’s a pretty good three-point shooter and he was ahead of Mulder in the rotation last season.
Both are shooters. Obviously Lee has more size, and can attack better, and is related to Steph, so I guess that probably does give him the edge, but Mukder is also useful, and they arguably have guys at Lee’s position, where Mulder can play the 1 spot a bit…to be honest, that position is likely a depth spot anyway
No they really dont have guys at Lees position. They have a million 3/4s right now and like 3 players who are 1/2s they are kinda short on guard depth. I assume the last 2-way could be for a C and the last roster spot for guard depth.
Jordan Poole and Moody are arguably at Lee’s position…
When Davion Mitchell played against warriors summer league team there was only 1 player on the warriors summer league team with a chance to make the team on a 2 way contract is Jessup. Rest were G league players. the game was like a practice game. Summer league games are just more practice games to see who has skills.
I liked Jordan Schakel…also not that they have a spot for him b/c those positions are filled, but I thought Kahlil Whitney would get drafted at the end of last year’s draft
I think the rules might mandate Jessup getting a full contract. I think he may either make the GSW outright, or spend another season over seas.
Lee almost for sure stays. The team is still at 14 players with Lee. Shipping out Paschall was about opening his roster spot for a player that fits more. They have one roster and one 2-way unless Mannion gets a guaranteed offer from another team. GPII is probably the fallback, but even with Iggy they still could use a little more ball handling so not sure who they are targeting.
I’m co suffering Payton as staying, unless they replace him with a Frank Ntilikina, Shaq Harrison, Jeremiah Martin, Tyler Johnson, Langston Galloway, Avery Bradley, Dante Exum, which I guess is possible
Wow touchscreen every time lately…*considering
Granted the initial asking price for Ben Simmons was sky high unrealistic, but that offer (Wiggins, Poole, and a future first) is almost just as bad of a lowball. Wiggins is in there for salary matching purposes, but I think it would still take one of the Warriors young players (Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody…assuming Philly likes them) plus a future first or two.
Simmons is still an elite defender who can guard across 4 positions (and probably small ball 5s) both on and off the ball. He’s still an elite playmaker with great vision and a monster on the fastbreak. And he is a good finisher when his head is in the right space. It’s clear that he just lost any sort of confidence he had in his offense in the playoffs. He also has shown no desire to help space the floor even a little bit by taking mid range jumpshots. His form looks solid in the videos we’ve seen throughout the years so its not like his jumper is completely broken, just another aspect of his game that he doesn’t feel comfortable with. If he can even show a bit of confidence with his jumper and be willing to take them, it’ll expand his game and improve whatever team he’s on so much.
I love Ben Simmons and he’s a fantastic player. You’re right it would take more than what I scribbled hastily above. I say there’s a chance of it happening, with Simmons AWOL and perhaps the Warriors able to offer the best package? Maybe what you said, something like Wiggins Plus promising young guy like Wiseman Plus two Future firsts.
A Simmons trade will not happen because the GM of 76ers has always hated the GSW. When he was in Houston he made many snide remarks about GSW. The reason his asking price was so high for Simmons is because he doesn’t want Simmons going to GSW.
Unless Simmons forces them to trade him my guess is he will go anywhere but GSW because of the GM’s hate for the Warriors.
The ask was insane to everyone. He wanted 7 future firsts or swaps from the Spurs plus salary matching with players they liked. Morey is asking so high that everyone moved on and did other things because Simmons wasnt even a realistic plan C for most teams. The 6ers are running out of interested dance partners so the ask has to come way way down.
Wiggins and one future first is the max you offer. The 6ers are f**ked not even speaking with Simmons. Its obviously broken, and they may have to settle for the best offer on the table at the end of the day since I cant see any way he returns to Philly after all that has happened. Its lowball city since everyone knows he has to move and nobodies desperate to get him.
My guess would be CJ plus a few parts for Simmons, but I think that actually strips to much shooting from Portland, and Simmons cant fix that dumpster fire defense alone.
I mean Wiggins and a future first is the max GSW might offer, but let’s not act like that’s even close to fair value. That might end up being the best offer at the end of the day, but Warriors fans would be jumping in joy at that heist if the 76ers took that. Tbh that’s a worse offer than Brogdan and a first if there was any truth to that rumor.
I’m just trying to play the unbiased third party here (not a 76ers or Warriors fan). The asking price for Simmons is way too high. It’s alot for a legit star like Harden, let alone a guy who is probably in the very good, but not elite tier. I was just saying that a serious offer from the Warriors (barring every other trade partner publicly dropping out first) would be Wiggins, young player, plus a future first or two. Anything less, made with a straight face, and with other potential suitors would be a slap in the face. Imo Morey doesn’t want to move Simmons. That original asking price was a “I don’t really want to trade this guy, but if you give me the moon I will” type of ask.
When you know that your opponent in a negotiation has no leverage, why would you offer them anything but .30 on the dollar?
Everything says its broken beyond repair where he cant start the season on the roster. Not that many teams even have matching salaries they want to send. Its Wiggins and a first, or worse contracts than his from anyone else.
I have nothing against the 6ers, but they are well and truly screwed here.
Is the NBA so lacking in talent that a player with nothing left three years ago is still landing a spot on a pretender??
Found the Lakers fan. Lol have fun watching GSW win another chip on Bron’s watch!
Never I still yearn for the day’s of dr.j and my loaded Sixers 4 4 4. But my point is valid .
Iggy is useful enough if he has to play, is super valuable as a vet mentor, and your really just hoping to save his hops for the playoffs.
But yeah enjoy whatever happens with Ben Simmons. When you bomb out Meyers is waiting for your call on Embiid, and yes we will do the package for him you asked for for Ben.
Those were good days for the Sixers. Caldwell Jones Bobby Jones Mo cheeks Andrew Toney Mark Iavaroni…. I’m trying to remember a couple more guys without looking it up. Clint Richardson? Plus a little 5-11 white point guard back up, can’t think of his name you might have it (illuzioni sp?) And then there’s another big man back up can’t remember his name 6-9, clemmon Johnson but no, not him… anyway, good Sixers teams and always beating up my Sidney Moncrief Milwaukee Bucks. Frustration !!
Shouldn’t this comment be on the Laker comment board? just change the name to any of the over the hill gang on the Lakers.
I guess he’s gonna play the same role as Ariza will with the Lakers. Both veterans that still have a little bit of gas left in the tank. And both are returning to teams they were champions with. Pretty cool for both of them.
Anyone pro or con. That thinks Iggy swings the needle. Stop showing your ignorance lols. He’s still serviceable at best a top 10 guy. It’s coming home and maybe being a part of another run. That’s the story here. He can help in a big gm. He’s good for their bench. He’s good for the city. Why can’t you just be happy for a player at the end of their career. Show some respect
He is going to help the 2nd team with leadership on the floor. That was lacking the last 2 years. Also gives the youngsters somebody to learn how to play the game.
Dude is still in good shape. He can still defend at a high level, and the second unit didnt have nearly enough passing which he also helps with.
Because he has avoided major injuries and played a reserve role(less mileage on his body), he probably can play another 2-3 yrs. It will be interesting to see how Iggy maximizes his basketball career including post playing.
Although Iggy wants to finish his career at GS, he wouldnt come back if he wasnt convinced W’s will contend for title. Something big definitely will happen … it might not happen in the offseason, but probably at midseason. W’s will maximize trio’s prime.
They would have done something big this year. It takes two to Tango, and none of the players the Dubs were willing to move the farm for were available.
They will make a big move for any of LBJ, AD, KD, Kahwi, Giannis, Embiid, Doncic, Booker, Tatum, Jokic and maybe PG. If one of them is available then the Warriors will play otherwise they want to see what Steph at 35 can do with a year 3 Kuminga year 4 Wiseman in a couple years.
Good signing . I believe he did not fit the heat system especially next to butler and bam and hero . Hopefully this offseason helps him get ready . Worst case scenario is he helps mentor the young players , but I believe he still will be a good bench player and has a role to play on the court .
Iggy Baby Iggy!
