Danny Green, who re-signed with the Sixers on a two-year deal, said most of his other suitors in free agency offered less money or would have needed to work out a sign-and-trade with Philadelphia, according to Rich Hofmann of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Ex-teammates Dwight Howard (Lakers) and George Hill (Bucks) tried to recruit Green to the teams they signed with this summer, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer tweets. However, Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid were also in frequent contact with the veteran guard, urging him to stick with the Sixers, Kyle Neubeck of The Philly Voice tweets.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- Former Celtics assistant Jamie Young is joining Doc Rivers’ staff with the Sixers, Derek Bodner of The Athletic tweets. Young spent 21 years with Boston.
- While Nets general manager Sean Marks says he’s mostly done tweaking the team’s roster this offseason, he reserved the right to make more moves, Brian Lewis of The New York Post writes. “We’ve got to continue to tinker with the roster, and just see what happens,” he said. “We’ve seen in the past where other teams make cuts, and so forth, and we’re able to adjust because of that. So I don’t want to say that the roster’s complete: Maybe it’s 90 percent complete, 99 percent complete.”
- Nerlens Noel‘s three-year contract with the Knicks includes $4MM in total incentives. Among those potential incentives is a $750K bonus each time he makes First or Second Team All-Defense, Ian Begley of SNY.TV reports.
Sean Marks is the Nets GM, not Bobby Marks. Bobby Marks works for ESPN.
Semantics
In 2017
Rockets were 1 seed in West, next year they were the 4th seed
In 2021
76ers are 1 seed in East. Next year they will be the 4th seed?
Why didn’t 76ers use tax MLE?
If 76ers use it, they would pay the same tax as Jazz
Schröder would be a good fit if trade Simmons
The problem is no one will give Philly what they want for Simmons.
He’s not worth half of what they’re asking for with his albatross contract.
Sept 28 training camp opens for NBA teams. Reports are out there Ben is NOT showing up. If this happens. Then Morey will get off his high horse. And start real negotiations for Ben. I’m sure he already has a few plans. But if this goes south with Ben. Then his value will go even lower.
Green was a good move for Sixers. He still got game left. And the playoff experience is a plus too. I think Morey is trying to get a big name for Ben. I doubt that happens. I’d be looking at CJ instead of Dame.
6ers could become more desperate to move him if they struggle, but might actually have the guard depth to be ok without him(Curry,Maxey,Milton,Springer).
I don’t think his actual value slips though. His strengths and weaknesses are well documented, and he has 4 years remaining.Any team acquiring him already know what they’re getting, and would have to have some sort of plans with him down the road.
They’ll be lucky just to get CJ McCollum for Simmons at this point, no way will the Sixers get anyone even close to Dame for him unless they are willing to give up at least 3 first round picks. The situation is about to get explosive.
If I’m Philly, I’m not moving Simmons, and if his issue is Doc Rivers, that’s a win-win, in my book. Just fire Rivers
Yeah but if he doesn’t report. It’s going to get messy lol.
That’s what I’ve been saying, Simmons wants out, and Rivers alternating naming PGs by quarters, as player favors, in playoff games, was the last straw. Simmons just does not want to hurt the Sixers by making it public. He stays quiet but rebels with non-effort.
Yes Morey’s high horse will be bucking and that will be pleasing… unless he trades. I hope SGA gets a move on as well.
Rivers is by far the most overrated coach in all NBA. The fact is not he can’t solve problems, the fact he is the problem
Like Noel, and he saved us when Mitch went down. I’m glad he got his money. Cause I know that’s what he wanted. Got much respect for Thibs. He made sure his guys got paid. But I’m expecting a Big yr from Mitch. Mitch can be better than what Noel gave us last yr. So I’m just going take it gm by gm. I really believe Mitch is taking a big leap this yr. So this can make Noel expendable by TD. I’m not looking ahead. But it’s there. Man I’m just going to enjoy every gm this yr. It’s been a long time since Knick fans have felt that way. Every gm is a party lols.
Rivers could be the problem. But Simmons also has to work on his game. He need to take the shot if open and shoot the three if he wants to play PG. You don’t fun when you make a mistake you prove you were not the problem.
Ben Simmons has played basketball since he was 7 years old, he’s had almost 18 years to work on his game. He won’t magically fix it overnight.
The Sixers have basically destroyed his career by forcing him to play PG for the last five years even though he is best suited to play PF. Total disaster.
Nobody’s forced him relax lol. I agree he should be a wing. PF or SF. Sixers are a contender. They can’t afford to deal with Ben NOT playing. He’s done in Philly. They should be trying to get best deal right now. You want to go into the year with your full squad. Plus the new players have to adjust too. For a contender like Sixers. They need to handle this before the season imo.
