The contract that rookie point guard Miles McBride signed with the Knicks covers three years, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN (Instagram video link). Marks reports that the first two seasons in the deal are guaranteed, while the third is a team option. The team used cap room to complete the signing.
McBride, 20, was selected with the No. 36 pick out of West Virginia. The 6’2″ guard was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team for the 2020/21 season, his sophomore year. During his final collegiate season, McBridge averaged 15.9 PPG, 4.8 APG, and 3.9 RPG, on a .431/.414/.813 shooting line.
There’s more out of the Atlantic Division:
- Do-everything Nets guard Bruce Brown drew outside interest as a free agent but said that he always knew he wanted to remain in Brooklyn, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post (Twitter link). Brown, 24, opted to accept a one-year, $4.7MM qualifying offer from the Nets, and will be an unrestricted free agent next season. “I really didn’t pay it any mind, honestly,” Brown said of the decision to remain in Brooklyn, per Tom Dowd of BrooklynNets.com. “I thought everything would take care of itself. I really was just working out the whole time, and then when free agency started, I actually was on the plane back to New York. So I didn’t really talk to anybody until I landed. I’m just happy to be back. It’s a great fit. I didn’t want to go anywhere else.”
- Appearing on Sportsnet 590 The Fan in Toronto, Raptors general manager Bobby Webster downplayed ongoing rumblings about a potential impending Pascal Siakam trade. “Teams call on our players and we call on other teams’ players,” Webster said, per Steven Loung of Sportsnet (Twitter link).
- New Raptors big man Precious Achiuwa, acquired as part of the sign-and-trade that sent point guard Kyle Lowry to the Heat, is excited to contribute however he can to a winning culture with Toronto, writes Neil Davidson of The Toronto Star. “Rebounding,” Achiuwa said, explaining what he brings to the team. “Guarding multiple positions. Creating offense for my teammates with screens, pick-and-rolls. Passing the ball. Just whatever it takes to win basketball games. Getting loose balls… For me, it’s all about winning.” During his rookie season in Miami, Achiuwa averaged 5.0 PPG and 3.4 RPG in 12.1 MPG after being selected 20th overall in the 2020 draft.
Precious, Scottie, Boucher & Pascal is a versatile/athletic/scary frontline for the next 5+yrs. If they can get Bagley, Buddy & a unprotected 1st for Pascal they might have to jump on that but either way the Raps are gonna have a savage frontcourt… Freddie & Dragic are a really nice pg duo. Gary Trent Jr is somewhere bw a young Byron Scott & a prime Gary Harris. If OG can stay healthy this is gonna be a very dangerous team, especially if they go get Buddy & Bagley
Prime Garry Harris, wow
Malachi?
The language of neither confirming nor denying a player’s trade availability sure sounds like he is available for the right price. I guess you could say that about anyone, but Pascal siakam sounds really available to me.
I think the Kings would love to give Bagley a fresh start elsewhere and Buddy has had one foot out the door and the other foot on a banana peel for a couple of Seasons now.
Raptors got no center. Barnes and Siakam play the same position. It tells me the rumors about him probably true. To pass on Suggs for him also tells me they want to move Siakam. Moving him now is a smart move for the team. Bring in younger talent and retool team. Also move the money commitment.
They have several people that can play the 5, and there are lineups where you can have both guys out there, with the right pieces there. Admittedly, when you add 1 of their draft picks (Banton) they have several options at the 4 as well, but I think they’re on the verge of exemplifying the future of 4 or 5 skilled lengthy players on the floor at once. One more shooter, and I think they’re potentially an extremely dangerous team. If you have a need to add a true 7 footer, Isaiah Hartenstein would make sense for that role, but not sure how many roster spots they currently have left
Agreed
We’re going to have this conversations about bigs again. They have NO center. Only a true center is a rim protector. So even if they are not offensive players. Their value is, a rim protector. A rim protector is the anchor of Team D. Something all teams have to play at some point. There is not a playoff team. That doesn’t play D. That’s Team D. All final four teams are solid team D teams. Raptors biggest signed player is listed at 6’9”. Again they don’t have a true center. Today’s gm where most teams go ten deep. Every team needs a rim protector. Every team needs a real center on their roster. You dress up 12 guys. If you want to really compete in the NBA you must have a true center on your roster. Most good teams have two or three. It’s why Suns went out and signed one. So again the Raptors have NO center. You try and pass yourself off as some student of the game. Bigs will never change. They are more skilled today. But size can never be taught. Which makes the NBA a sport about size. It’s where big tall athletes can make a good living. It’s really simple bro. And Please Toronto is not changing anything cause the NBA will always be about size.
And again Raptors have NO center. Doesn’t need an explanation. It’s a position that needs to be filled.
Tell KJ Martin that only a true center can protect the rim.
As a rookie last season, at the height of 6′ 6″, he blocked some of the tallest players in the NBA. Positionless basketball is the future.
It is about size…size across every position. Also, those 6″9 guys have ridiculous wingspans, so they play taller, and some of them can protect the rim. I’m not arguing you need rim protection. I want my bigs to be able to guard pick and roll, and protect the rim. It also depends on who is on the roster, and where I need that guy to get their minutes. If he is a non offensive threat, that means I better have good shooting around him, or he needs to be able to space the floor as an above the rim lob threat/strong offensive rebounder. You like to refer to people like Andre Drummond and Hassan Whiteside, who dont guard pick and roll, dont protect the rim, are ball stopping blackhole turnover machines, dont play with any effort…Toronto has several guys that do all of those things, including 1 or 2 that space the floor
They have 3 centers, Precious, Boucher & Khem Birch are all good 5s that bring something different. Boucher & Precious both could be among the best 5s in the game in the near future & Birch is a really good backup 5 who played really well for Toronto last season
Another wannabe here. Do you watch these guys play. Have you ever watched them play.
You’re the fan boy who is here touting the Hawks great you g talent. How Cam is the next one….. yeah to get traded lol.
Achiuwa is listed at 6’8” and 225 LBs. He’s from NYC. Know him since HS. Not a center. Unless he plays for you of course. Cause like KD who is 6’10” he will stop Rudy. A guy with not much offensive game. Did U watch
Boucher listed at 6’9” and 200 LBs. Yeah he couldn’t play center for my HS squad I played on.
Birch is listed at 6’9” 209 LBs. Yeah ok
Try again fan boy. OK
OK all you wannabees here who want attention and not a real debate. Do your own searches. I’m not your personal SEARCH ENGIN. Amazing how much you argue about things you know nothing about. It’s probably my fault for even caring right. I’m sorry I know too much.
Raps will be getting Moses Brown from Dallas when Dragic trade can be done on Oct 1st. He can start and Birch is solid backup.
Wingspan is a great judge of ability to guard the paint. The pick & roll NBA cares more about versatility than height and weight. All 3 of those guys can cover bigs if called upon much like Kwahi did Giannis in ‘19.
That being said you may need one traditional big just to deal with some of the more traditional centers, but not many excel with their back to the basket.
I don’t know much, but I know more than you KnickerbockerAI
Who’s to say we need a number 1 center. Not every team has a elite center. Agree with no STARTING center but we do have Birch who can fill in at the starting center with Boucher and Precious as alternates
Delano Blanton & Scottie are both guys that play more like guards offensively. Same goes for Pascal tbh. All those guys can play together easily. Especially Scottie & P. Drafting Scottie definitely doesn’t mean they want to trade P but it does give Toronto flexibility to make him available if someone (like Sacramento for instance) feels like overpaying for him
Really……. First prove it for a few yrs.
Siakam doesn’t even always play like a SF. It’s the reason he’s in trade rumors lol. He’s more a tweener 3-4. But ofcourse you got it figured out cause you don’t even watch him play. I doubt you even got NBA pkg and watch Hawks lol
Siakam is more a 4/5
In my opinion Pascals value will never be higher than today…I think Tor views it this way as well
I don’t mind them taking a step back in order to take 2 steps forward in the near future- Dish him
Fact is if you follow this game. And you respect this game. You have to wonder why a solid talent is always in trade rumors as much as Siakam is. Personally I think he’s overpaid. He cashed in on a great yr for a team that let him get stats. Raptors could just shut down all rumors. They choose not to. I agree that his value will never be higher.
So why do the Rockets have to trade Christian Wood, as you insist they should, while the Raptors can’t trade Siakam? Please explain.
He’s saying Tor SHOULD trade Pascal
I also agree w Al on his Wood stance- I believe they should cash that dude in today as well b/c his value will only slip (w contract/on-court/ and health) . And then to hear he’s an A-hole on top…yea I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s dealt before the season and by the deadline max . No need for that in Houston ,
* I really like the youths over there btw/ congrats w Garuba news today, love him
It’s markets Wally…some people on here get so infatuated with home teams or certain players they don’t understand what the market place truly looks like, don’t be one of them, your more knowledgeable than that –
I agree AL on your Pascal synopsis
Overpaid is tricky to define tho in current NBA when lining up with cap and team arch’s come so much into play but Id say calling Pascal overpaid is pretty on par to date or at least saying there’s NO surplus in it –
I would love for Tor to giv Pascal for Wiggins +Wiseman and maybe even something else small- I think GSW will aim higher but they might not get what they want and Tor should be ready if so – I wouldn’t get picky tho, a good offer for Pascal, Im moving him tomorrow. Give Masai cap and assets and I think we will all like where Toronto is sooner than later
McBride getting two yrs guaranteed is big for 2nd rd pick. For any 2nd rd pick. Needs to be patient and learn to manage a gm and team offense. As a PG you will always have opportunity to score. He’s got good vision. So I’m sure he will be ok. Still I’d like to see him start in G-league. Get mins and just run team there. Better than sitting on big squad. We can always bring him up after 25-30 gms. I like our two guards. They both should help next yr.
