Nets rookie Cameron Thomas has shined during the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League, Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes. Thomas entered Sunday as the highest-scoring rookie in the event, proving his value as the No. 27 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
“People always want to doubt me and doubt my ability to score the ball,” Thomas said. “My progress has been great. I’ve been getting better game-to-game, getting a better feel for the game, feel for the pace…I think I’m doing real well.”
Thomas and the Nets will play the Spurs on Sunday night before finishing summer league on Tuesday.
Here are some other notes out of New York today:
- Julius Randle‘s extension with the Knicks will likely be a win-win situation for both him and the team, says Ian Begley of SNY.tv. Randle is coming off a career-best season, averaging 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and six assists per game. The Knicks finished with an impressive 41-31 record and made the playoffs for the first time since 2013 in 2020/21.
- New Knicks guard Kemba Walker is set to return to New York after spending the last decade away from the state, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News writes. Walker signed with the Knicks after reaching a buyout agreement with the Thunder, joining a backcourt that already includes Derrick Rose, Immanuel Quickley and others. As Bondy notes, the Bronx native will now have the chance to show what he’s learned on the road over the past 10 years.
- Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer examines what various Sixers players have learned during summer league this month, specifically those entering their second seasons. Among those players is Paul Reed, who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes of work on Saturday.
Reed game keeps developing I can see him getting minutes as the back up 4. I like him hustle, rebounding
I like b ball Paul too, I just think he is still a little bit raw (maybe a rich mans Jonah Bolden?) to earn any significant minutes this year apart from an injury
Bledsoe trade
Is Kemba gonna stink it up in NY just like he did in Boston? Probably.
Change your diapers lol. It’s that Houston gm you smell. We just want him healthy. He’ll take it from there. NYC is the PG capital of the World.
Injured Kemba still put up way, way better numbers than the Knicks starting PG last year (Elfrid Payton). If he can play even as 85% of his ability, it’s still a big upgrade for the team.
Yeah I agree. Coming home he might push himself to please. It’s one thing I worry about. Definitely take him at 85%. As long as he can give us 30 mins. It’s says he had surgery for torn meniscus in 2015 n 2016. But didn’t have issues till the Bubble. I just want him healthy.
Cam was a great pick for Nets. Guy is a scorer, kind of small for SG. He can develop into scoring off the bench. Still very young. He’s in a good place to learn about scoring lols.
Knicks had worst record in own division. Only beat Atlanta. Knicks are a better and deeper team than last yrs 4th seed. But the East is also better. Celtics and Heat both will be back to top 4. Hawks are young and still growing. Pacers had a good draft, they are a playoff team. Bulls get it together they are a playoff team. Hornets had a great draft, they are a playoff team. Top ten teams in East are all good. For me I just wanna see Knicks get better and better, new pieces. Mitch has to play 80 gms. We can finish top 4 again that would be great. I know we will be better in second half. This is going to be a fun yr in NY. Full house every night. Not like the half empty Toyota Center.
You don’t know anything about Houston
What’s there to know they suxx. They tanked to get Green. And Wood will soon be leaving. Morey destroyed that team kissing up to Harden. Then left with him. Did I say the SuXX
Cam Thomas is only as bright as he needs to be. Nobody doubted his scoring, just everything else.
How did the Knicks pass on Cameron Thomas?????Thibs doesn’t like Superstars perhaps? Nothing against Grimes, he looks good, but Thomas is another Donovan Mitchell.
Cam is doing it in SL. He’s a scorer for sure. But he only thinks scoring. And is undersized for SG. Still is young so he can still get the rest of his game going. He is looking good. Needs to be more a playmaker. Knicks went for shooting. Grimes can shoot and has size. He’s already NBA ready. I’m sorry we passed on J Johnson
At this point with the Ben Simmons trade talk, we are obviously trying our best to get Dame. Which makes sense he’s a top 12 player in the game and him along with Embiid would be great.
However it would most likely take us losing either Thybulle or Maxey and giving up 3/4 first round picks aswell. For Dame who is already 31 to get paired with Embiid who has injury concerns and is 27 would likely give us a championship window of 3/4 years max. That would mean beating the Lakers big 3, Nets big 3 and strong teams like the Celtics, Bucks, Clippers, GSW, Jazz etc etc. By giving up 3 young players and 3/4 first rounders it would totally mess up the future. I know it would be great and make us better but it just probably isn’t worth it.
Instead I think we need to be thinking about staying young and not giving up to much.
Zach LaVine would’ve been perfect, 26 scoring machine, super athletic and getting better every season but that looks unlikely.
Beal would be cheaper than Dame and the Wizards are more likely to let him go after they traded Russ and look like possibly rebuilding.
Maybe a package of Ben, Joe and 3 firsts would be enough?
Another idea could be the TWolves, Dloading would be available he’s only 25 and Beasley is only 24. Could we possibly see Ben and Seth for DLo, Beasley and a protected first?
Lastly why not go back to DeAaron Fox? The kids only 23, averaged 25-7-3.5. He would be great for the now and the future, isn’t a liability on defence either and looks like a leader.
