The Knicks have renounced their free agent rights to former lottery pick Frank Ntilikina, according to RealGM’s transactions log.
The move, which was necessary in order for New York to maximize its cap space, doesn’t preclude the team from re-signing Ntilikina. The Knicks no longer have his Bird rights, but could still re-sign him using cap space or an exception (such as the minimum-salary exception). There has been no indication that’s in the cards, however.
Here’s more from around the Eastern Conference:
- Kemba Walker‘s new two-year, $18MM contract with the Knicks is fully guaranteed with no options, tweets Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic. Keith Smith of Spotrac, providing the year-by-year breakdown, notes (via Twitter) that the two-year value technically comes in at about $17.89MM.
- Checking in on the Ben Simmons sweepstakes, ESPN’s Zach Lowe confirms that the Spurs, Warriors, and Timberwolves are among the teams that have had some talks with the Sixers and reiterates a point that a few other reporters have made — Philadelphia likely wants to wait to see if Damian Lillard becomes available before moving Simmons. For now, the Trail Blazers star hasn’t asked to be dealt and is off the table, Lowe adds.
- Josh Robbins of The Athletic takes a closer look at the bid 29-year-old Janis Timma is making to earn a spot on the Magic‘s roster. The 60th pick in the 2013 draft, Timma has spent his professional career in Europe but is part of Orlando’s Summer League squad. “I just want to show that I’m ready to play here and I belong here,” he said.
- The Lakeland Magic have hired Joe Barrer as their head coach, according to a press release from the team. Barrer spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach to Stan Heath for Orlando’s G League affiliate. Heath, who led Lakeland to an NBAGL title and earned Coach of the Year honors earlier this year, left for a job at Eastern Michigan.
Makes sense for Philly to wait on Dame
He’s option A, B, and C
I don’t see how Minny or SAS can outbid GSW on Simmons. Perhaps the allure of Dame will drop the price ever so slightly GSW just has to oblige to get Ben in
Tbh, I can see how Simmons/GSW doesn’t work out on the court but I can also see it working out masterfully if Kerr is able to make the necessary tweaks. Would be hard to walk away from that upside if I was Meyers
Why would the Blazers give away Dame to get Simmons?
They wouldn’t, hence the GSW inclusion and chatter – 3 teamer
It would be a quasi rebuild in Por
Warriors are not trading for Simmons which all these sport writers claim. 76ers want a boat load of players for him. 76er GM hates the Warriors so just by that you know he will not be trading to GSW. Kuminga is impressing in the summer league. Wiseman is not going to be in the trade. Watch sixers end up holding onto him too long and not get as much for him.
Depends on Dame, if Philly can get him the Gm will put aside (petty whatever your claiming’s) for the best package-
GSW can beat SAS and Minny’s package w ease ….will they, idk, but it won’t get held up because some Jr High feud that’s for sure –
Dame gets the whole wheels spinning, * if he does in fact want to move to Philly, Still and *if obv, everything else falls into place
I don’t see Portland trading Dame unless he forces a trade. Spurs do not have the players sixers want.
Well yessss but I thought that was inferred
That’s the game these days, and that recent taste of Gold just might be the last itch he doesn’t scratch at being able to win at the highest levels for the rest of his career ….idk its obv not 100% but I place it real close to 50% so it’s all viable Hr hoops convo at this point
Draymond don’t shoot
Simmons don’t shoot
Draymond don’t dunk.
Simmons don’t dunk.
No shoot no dunk.
Draymond can shoot and dunk. Why do people keep thinking that?
Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?
Simmons for Wiggins straight up is going to make so many people so mad I cant wait
The trade offers that are made up by sport writers are hilarious. Wiggins, Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody and draft picks. Those are the ones that make me laugh.
Did Marty’s just make you laugh b/c his is 10x worse than those?
Simmons for Wiggins is not happening either. Looking into the trade options it will probably be some type of 3 way trade to get the right parts for him.
Pass that around don’t be selfish. Big Ben 3x all defense 3x all star rookie of the year voted best defensive player by NBA coaches average just under triple double, son Wiggins is a throw in.
Wiggins rookie of the year at 19
Simmons rookie of the year at 20
Simmons
14, 7, 7 last season
Wiggins
22, 5 ,4 best season
When you make your point let us know.wiggins is a salary filler in any deal for Big Ben. The league knows Big Ben’s value which is why he’s in conversation 4 elite players…harden beal Lillard. When the dubs put Thompson on the table then we talk
“When the dubs put Thompson on the table then we talk” LMAO.
@Ojdiddoit – learn about this thing called TRADE VALUE. Simmons straight up saying he will never suit up for the 76ers ever again means his value is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He tanked his value, PHI has absolutely ZERO trade leverage now!
YES Simmons is twice the player Wiggins is, but the 76ers did Simmons dirty so he tanked his trade value, so now its ALMOST down to Wiggins-Simmons straight up, when a year ago it was definitely All of GSW’s assets for Simmons.
‘Simmons straight up saying he will never suit up for the 76ers’
You might be interested in the fact that Ben Simmons has never said this and has only obliquely insinuated it.
You might also be interested in the fact that multiple teams are interested on trading for Simmons (Spurs, Kings, Blazers, Pacers, Warriors, etc) and that *that* is what drives his trade value.
Or you might not be interested in either of these and prefer to live in your Warriors homer fantasy world. Simmons for Wiggins straight up occurs only in your dreams.
Can you give me a link to “Ben” straight up saying “he will never suit up for the 76ers” again. I would be most interested in hearing this interview and reading the article.
Lol, too funny! You are not even on the ballpark!
Awww are you a casual too? Trade value = Ben Simmons has none. When a player says “I hate my team Im never playing for them every again, they have to trade me” then that means PHI aint getting anything for him, because they HAVE to trade him, and the market is literally GSW or POR, who can both sit back and go “nah you’ll get what we give you and like it”.
Ben Simmons can’t (or simply won’t) shoot but does almost literally everything else on the court at an elite level. Defense/steals, rebounding, driving, passing, finishing, moving without the ball, etc. To say he has no trade value is peak ignorance but nothing new coming from you.
And Simmons hasn’t said ‘I’m never playing for Philadelphia ever again’, but even if he had, he wouldn’t be the first to say it and then end up playing for that team again.
In a vacuum, where the Sixers were limited to trading only with one team, they might have their backs against the wall and Simmons’ value might be diminished. But we’re not in a vacuum, and the Sixers can tell the Warriors to go fly a kite if they offered that weak ass package.
Yeah, I am a pretty casual guy…I don’t get worked up over snide clever comments such as this. Personally I don’t want to trade Ben, nor do I think Morey will…
So since you are very astute and clearly not a casual….nor would you embellish the truth to try and make your point more poignant…can you provide me a link to the interview where Ben says these words you are quoting? Thanks in advance
Did him dirty???? Dude LITERALLY didn’t want to attempt a dunk in a game 7 at HOME in the FOURTH quarter. You must be a gen z guy bc if that’s the equivalent of “doing him dirty”, I’m glad you weren’t watching hoops when deandre jordan literally said yes to dallas, only to resign with Clippers after CP3/Blake/Pierce held him hostage lmao.
I hope the Magic do sign that old dude. They probably never thought he would come over but he’s like “Nah, I’m ready MF!!”. He’s probably better than Wendell Carter anyways…
If we discover that the earth is actually flat and Dame actually asks for a trade, why does everyone automatically think they have to go full rebuild? If you can get a Top 10 player for Dame or 2 Top 25 players, they still have CJ, Norm, Roco and Nurk. There’s no need to go OKC and take 10 draft picks for a superstar. And even if Dame asks for a trade, he’s not a FA in the next year. The blazers have no obligation to trade him immediately and Dame doesn’t have it in his DNA to go full James Harden and quite on his team.
Sixers can wait. But it won’t happen imo. They will have to give up more than Ben, a lot more. If you believe K Perkins report. That Ben is not reporting to pre camp. Then it means Bens value and Moreys fantasy value of him. Is going to start dropping fast. It will put the pressure on to get this over with.
I see the IQ kid here thinks Wiggins straight up makes sense. Not even Wiggins own family can make sense of that. Truth is Warriors do have the pieces to get a Ben deal done. So does Sacramento imo. There are few teams who will deal for Ben. If he doesn’t report to training camp. Then the assets start to get smaller. So I think Morey will break. I don’t see Philly ever letting Ben forget last yrs playoffs.
Kuminga and Wiggins are two players who can start for Sixers. Throw in future #1 picks (2). I do it. Kings offer Halliburton (they have Mitchell), Bagley, Buddy and a pick. I mean why wouldn’t you take that. Fact is we will know soon if he is coming to Philly or not. Real soon.
‘The IQ kid’ lmao
Frank needs to find another home. Small market team should help him. Spurs, Mavs, Lakers should be looking at him. Guy plays D can guard three positions. That can help plenty of teams. Playing for Pops or playing with Luka can help him. Lakers need players who play D. Frank will need to repackage himself. Imo he’s lost his confidence. Stop trying to please GMs, coaches, teams. Get more aggressive and get yours. That also helps teams. Still got faith in you Frank !!!! Be Watching
Since when are Dallas and LA small markets? San Antonio, I get. Pop could work with him since Patty’s gone. Also, he has some experience with French point guards…
Isn’t obvious who are small markets. Dallas is by the way. When it comes to basketball. Concentrate on what helps Frank. French got nothing to do with playing ball. I don’t think you get what NY does to young talent. That’s what my post is about. A new beginning away from toxic Knicks. Cause that’s all Frank knows.

It’s never mentioned but Draymond would be great with Embiid and Philly – and Doc. Could actually do half Doc’s job, getting those guys playing to win! Philly needs a dog like Draymond.
I would part with him (Draymond) for Simmons – a younger, bigger, more athletic Draymond, minus the the dog mentality. Maybe he doesn’t necessarily need that playing with Curry and Thompson.
Imo, it’s a win/win for both teams.
Draymond will replace Kerr when he retires, he’s GSW forever – Dray, Steph and Klay are 1-teamers no matter what you team-hopping, ring-chasing stan twitter has to think about it lol
Wiggins plus a future pick pretty much is Simmons value, ever since he told the 76ers he was finished on the team. When you tank your trade value, you cant ask for all a teams assets anymore. A year ago, absolutely Simmons is worth it all, but now? Nope. His trade value has thoroughly flatlined.
Draymond does absolutely nothing to move the needle for the sixers though. Nothing.
Finally proof of a front office. Next up – Knox.
If only. Would love to see them find someone to take Knox, but he’ll likely stick around and get renounced next year like Frank.
Knox has been a dog since day one.
Minnesota
The reason they were a .500 team for their last 22 games is mainly because they had the luxury of DeAngelo Russell’s scoring/playmaking coming off the bench. Better hope they can trade for Simmons without losing D-Lo. But, I don;t see how that’s possible. They’d be better off finding a competent replacement for Rubio. Who they will miss greatly, like last time.
