The Grizzlies have declined the $13MM team option in Justise Winslow‘s contract for next season, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports (Twitter link).
This move was expected from Memphis, since the team needed to remove Winslow’s salary from its books to create space for Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams. The Grizzlies are reportedly set to acquire the duo in a trade with the Pelicans, sending back center Jonas Valanciunas in return.
The 25-year-old Winslow has missed several games due to injuries over the past two seasons, appearing in just 37 total contests as a result. He spent the first five seasons of his career in Miami before being traded to Memphis in February of 2020.
In the 26 games he did play during the 2020/21 season, Winslow averaged 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per contest. Memphis had to make a decision on his option by 5:00pm ET on Sunday.
Would be a nice fit for Lakers as a point forward. Or Miami who need a PF.
This is absolute BS …….. where’s @formerlyz at?
Are the GRIZZ not impressed by Winslow’s excellent stats of 18.5% (FG3%) and 57.1% (FT%) ?
Celtics should give him a shot on a minimum
Is the Celtic’s G League team also named the Celtic’s?
Lakers will come calling …..
Justice heading back to Miami
I guess there is just no Justice in Memphis.
Often Justice cannot be found at all.
Danny Ainge wanted to trade 4 first rounders for this guy. L
Bulls need him, in low price of course. Healthy winslow is very good player.
Reunion with the Heat on the table, especially with them missing Iguodala. Too much redundancy in Memphis, and therefore not much opportunity when he was healthy, which he admittedly mostly wasnt. Had a big game for them when he got some minutes at the end of the season. He is best at the 4 or at PG around spacing. Shoots better in those environments, and is still an elite defender. Has always still been a good catch and shoot shooter. Justise Winslow is a winner, and if he gets a real opportunity, that will continue to be true
Really unfortunate how he got injured by Al Horford after a game in his 2nd year, when he was really hitting a stride. I also thought he was really about to break out before the Heat got Jimmy Butler. There is a lot of redundancy in their games, but he did lead the Heat to a win in Milwaukee early that season, when Butler missed that game. Was unfortunate that he got hurt b/c otherwise, I dont think the Heat would have traded him
Besides the Heat, Dallas, Washington, Minnesota, Portland, maybe Brooklyn all make sense
Brother, your fandom for all things Justise is nice …… but sometimes you have to acknowledge that when something that walks, movies and quacks like a duck – it’s most likely a duck.
I’ve told you this many times before, your boy Justise just can’t shoot. He can’t. His shot is absolutely BROKEN.
Even most sportswriters say so, even the most rabid of heat fan blogs say so. He can’t shoot.
Add the fact that he has always had this annoying issue of difficulty finishing around the rim.
Does this mean Winslow is a scrub – no, he has his quick feet and decent hands in the defensive end, something you should have, otherwise a team like HEAT won’t draft you. But in this modern game, when you can’t shoot, you will get exposed ……. see Roberson, E. Payton, Oubre, etc
Just let it go, bro. Let it go.
Speaking of let it go…you would think after all the times I havent responded to your baseless Winslow hate, and hatred of the fact he has fans, you would maybe just let it go. Why does it bother you so much? Why should I care what “sports writers” that dont know a single thing about anything, or especially “fan blogs” that somehow know even less have to say, when I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and the numbers in the situations I’m talking about back me up, and I put literally everything I have into studying this stuff since I was a kid. You dont shoot 38% from 3 multiple years in a row if your shot is so broken, you cant shoot at all. Also, his ball handling, and finishing at the rim improved significantly since early on, but I dont know why I’m even mentioning this now, b/c it’s been said enough times, and I even just said, I’m not having this conversation…just agree to disagree. Regardless, he doesnt have to shoot to be a winning player. Also, final game, where he actually was used the way I’m talking about b/c other pieces were out…25 points 13 rebounds 4 assists 4-6 from 3
Heat need a 4 that can defend, and catch and shoot, around their shooters, especially when Butler isnt in the game. He fits that, and can give a lot of similar things that Iguodala did. Anything else is a plus, and he can probably be had for cheap
Your wing piece quacks, just like my (replaced) forward is stuck in park.
Didnt mention it once here, but again I ask…whats your problem with how teams win in the modern NBA? Why does it bother you that obviously teams need important pieces to get better, especially when they are actually…missing pieces?
