Dr. Jonathan Glashow, who performed the surgery on Victor Oladipo‘s right quadriceps tendon in May, believes the Heat guard could return sooner than expected. As Bobby Marks of ESPN writes, Glashow thinks the former All-Star could be cleared for contact by November.
“I repaired the quad tendon and did it a little differently than (he had) it done before,” Glashow said. “The quad wasn’t really hooked up. It was torn, and I reattached it. I was amazed he was playing with what he had. I’m very optimistic that I could clear him in six months, by November. I think he’s going to play really well again. … (The surgery) went extremely well, and it’s healing beautifully. I’m confident he’ll play next year.”
Oladipo re-signed with Miami on a one-year contract at the veterans minimum. The new deal allows the Heat to retain his Bird rights for a possible larger deal next summer.
There’s more from Miami:
- The Heat told Summer League standout DeJon Jarreau they were planning to sign him, but they were still debating whether to offer a two-way contract or an Exhibit 10 deal, tweets Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. Jarreau has reportedly opted to accept a two-way offer from the Pacers. Miami would like to have Marcus Garrett fill one of its two-way openings, Jackson confirms, but the signing was delayed when Garrett changed agents. A training camp competition will likely determine the other two-way slot.
- Miami will need Kyle Lowry to help make up for its loss of three-point shooters, writes Ira Winderman of The Sun-Sentinel. Lowry shot 39.6% from beyond the arc with the Raptors last season and is a career 36.8% shooter from long distance. Miami lost several of its top three-point threats, including Kendrick Nunn (38.1% last season), Goran Dragic (37.3%) and Andre Iguodala (33.0%). Taking their place, along with Lowry, will be P.J. Tucker (33.6%) and Markieff Morris (31.1%). Winderman states that Max Strus and Gabe Vincent will also be important to Miami’s three-point game.
- In case you missed it, the Heat are under fire from new NBPA president CJ McCollum for waiting until August 3 to withdraw their qualifying offer to Nunn.
So essentially, I was right about what I said on the Jarreau post, and we’re just relying a lot on Oladipo to be healthy sooner…
I just dont get why the strategy this year is hope everyone e stays healthy, when there were definitely ways to make sure there was depth in certain areas, but I’m sure they’ll try to address it around buyout time. I feel like these last couple of years, they keep leaving off that extra depth piece or fixing one area by weakening others…unheat-like type of stuff
They basically have just a 13-man roster with Oladipo and Haslem around.
They are leaving the 15th spot open until at least 50 games through, when they can sign a minimum deal, to avoid the luxury tax
So 13 is correct, including Haslem, at least until Oladipo is healthy, which would give them 14. If he gets healthy, he should be a capable contributor, but what about the time until then, and also being able to cover for any issues that may come up with Lowry or Butler?
Sorry, that Oladipo story is not true. The doctor gave that statement on his twitter the day after the operation, months ago. He never recently told it to Bobby Marks. It was a generic statement a long time ago. Since then Heat sources have said Oladipo would not play until likely Feb. Somehow the media has acted as if the doctor’s quote was recent and an update. It is not, it is an old quote from the day after the surgery and not relevant to what Heat trainers are projecting for his return.
Sounds like a May quote. It still sounds promising though.
I bet Dipo turned down much better offers to stay in Miami. But, only Dipo & his camp knows.
Oladipo just needs to get healthy. Heat are a playoff team. So he will have plenty of time to show his worth. Second half of season n playoffs. Lowry is a better fit PG for Heat. Heat will have a bounce back yr. But they do have depth issues. Players will be cut before season starts. All teams will go to 15 man rosters. Players will be available then.
There are still a couple of fits now, but they’re not going to sign a 15th guy until past the 50 game mark. That’s why the 2 way guys became more important
Now, if they can just bring in an assistant whose sole responsibility is to wake Spoelstra up from his occasional stupors where game personnel are concerned. Too many times, he falls asleep on who he has taken out of the game, or who he has sitting on the bench to begin with
The team lost more than it gained in the off season yet the.medua sings it’s praises. Sixth place will be a high mark for this team although Pacers may drop them to the play-in. Pat Riley thinks it’s 2006 and PJ Tucker is Antoine Walker, but he is not.
