The Heat have pulled the $4.74MM qualifying offer on point guard Kendrick Nunn, making him an unrestricted free agent, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link). Miami no longer has the ability to match an offer for Nunn, who can now sign outright with a new team.
Nunn, 26, is coming off an inconsistent stint with Miami, seeing his role fluctuate during his two seasons with the team. He still managed to average 15 points and 3.0 assists in 123 regular-season games (29.4 MPG), shooting 46% from the floor.
The Heat signed Nunn at the end of the 2018/19 season, developing him as a young player behind starting point guard Goran Dragic. Miami is also expected to deal Dragic as part of a sign-and-trade for Kyle Lowry, the team’s prized free-agent acquisition of the summer.
In addition to Lowry, the Heat agreed to re-sign four of its own free agents and landed P.J. Tucker on a two-year, $15MM contract. The team has 10 players under contract and will likely fill its remaining roster spots on minimum-salary deals or something close to it — in addition to two players on two-way contracts.
Sign him Knicks
Knicks could add to the stable of backup PGs by adding him. Not a distributor, but can defend and shoot.
They have 14 guys under contract (if Grimes and McBride are counted), so this would be it. Roster would be light on bigger wings (SFs).
I agree with both of you, we need some one to give rose a break. Take a flyer on nunn and see how the young guards develop.
Mcbride should be a two way player
Doubt it. Sims will likely be though.
Knicks have spent $53 million for this season yesterday and have no cap room
MLE to sign him?
I agree with both of you, we need some one to give rose a break. Take a flyer on nunn and see how the young guards develop.
Btw 7-9 mm in cap space available. It is just math, so you don’t have to believe everything you read.
Oubre still available too if you guys still think forward should be the priority
Oubre, Fournier, quickley on the floor together would be fun to watch.
“Landed” PJ Tucker let me know how that goes
Why did Knicks choose Fournier over Oubre?
Offense over defense
Shooting lol. What they need most
Yep
I like Nunn but as a backup. We don’t need him. Knicks don’t have to address PG now. So chill out. If you really want to know, or care. Go watch videos on McBride playing PG. Watch Luca playing. Right now it looks like PG by committee. And Frank can always come back for less money. You do understand that we can trade for one later. Even using Noel and Burkes. Both those guys fit Warriors team. So they could even get Obrue later. Knicks not done yet. We got plenty of time while Grimes and McBride grow. Fournier fills our BIGGEST need. Shooting …. OK. Shooting helps everyone cause it helps our offensive scheme. The offense works and flows better.
Spurs? They lost Mills.
Warriors? They wanted mills.
Pacers, Lakers, celtics???
Not sure who else is looking for PG. market is shrinking fast.
Should go back to the warriors. Maybe Celtics and Toronto and Buckd will take a look at him. If clippers lose Jackson then they make sense.
PJ Tucker could be the new Udonis Haslem with the Heat… after this 2yr deal, just continue to sign 1yr deals until
Sorry. He is now a Laker.
Kind of saw this coming for him b/c it’s difficult with RFAs, especially a scoring guard like him, but really thought he would get signed and traded and get $14 million AAV. Guess the Heat are up further against the hard cap than I realized…really sucks b/c they arguably could have used their bird rights to just give him what he got, and maybe let Vincent go, although I guess the argument could be made Vincent could be better defensively
Heat need 2 3 and D wings, and not sure what happens with Okpala b/c I prefer him over Markieff Morris
I expect to see a couple of summer league guys get chances for that depth guard spot/wing spot they lost with Nunn and Iguodala. Marcus Garrett is inconsistent with his dribble and his jumpshot, but he has Heat DNA, and I think he for sure gets 1 of the spots. Javonte Smart might get a look there, although there are other options. He is kind of a remedial Dion Waiters/Kendrick Nunn/stronger Reggie Jackson type…but I like Dejon Jarreau, and want to see what he looks like, among a couple of others
