The Hornets have waived shooting guard Caleb Martin, according to a team press release.
Martin had a $1,782,621 salary for next season that was due to guarantee on August 15. By releasing him now, Charlotte won’t carry any dead on its cap for him in 2021/22.
Martin averaged 5.0 PPG, 2.7 RPG and 1.3 APG in 15.4 MPG while seeing action in 53 games. Martin, who went undrafted in 2019, appeared in 71 games the last two seasons.
The move clears some additional cap space for Charlotte to officially sign Kelly Oubre Jr., who agreed to a two-year deal on Friday.
I think I liked him better than Cody, at least at one point, although Cody was much better last season. Caleb was much better their rookie year…wonder if he’ll play summer league for someone or look to go overseas
They added Wes Iwundu in that 3 team trade, which I wasnt aware of, so his chances were pretty much done there anyway, outside of multiple injuries
It’s funny how these two guys look so similar but their games are so different. Caleb is the shooting guard high-volume scorer in college and Cody is more of the point guard and doesn’t score as much.
They’re both very athletic and big time gamers. I loved watching them at Nevada. I heard the story of recruiting that the team went after Cody first knowing they liked playing together. Caleb was getting recruited heavily because of his scoring and Cody not so much. Nevada recruited Cody first and secured him so naturally Caleb followed so they could play together. Great story.
