Despite being the subject of several offseason trade rumors, Raptors forward Pascal Siakam likely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, writes Sam Amick of The Athletic.
Amick, who reported earlier in the summer that the Kings were “definitely” interested in Siakam, spoke in Las Vegas with multiple people close to the situation and says he doesn’t get the sense that the Raptors have any interest in moving the former All-Star this offseason. President of basketball operations Masai Ujiri and general manager Bobby Webster have been willing to listen to inquiries, Amick notes, but they aren’t shopping Siakam.
Besides Sacramento, the Warriors and Clippers are among the other teams said to have Siakam on their radar. He remains under contract with the Raptors for $106MM over the next three years.
As Amick outlines, there were multiple reasons why executives around the NBA believed that Siakam might be available via trade this offseason. Toronto’s decision to use the No. 4 pick in the draft on forward Scottie Barnes instead of guard Jalen Suggs was one; Siakam’s friction with Raptors head coach Nick Nurse last season was another.
However, sources tell Amick that any tension between Siakam and Nurse has “long since been smoothed over” and that Ujiri and the Raptors have been in touch with the forward’s camp to make it clear the team has a vision for how he, Barnes, and the rest of the team’s pieces will fit together on the court. And for his part, Siakam wants to remain with the Raptors, Amick adds.
Siakam underwent shoulder surgery in June and isn’t expected to be ready for the start of the 2021/22 campaign, so Toronto may not get to see its full roster in action until at least a month or two into the season. If the fit isn’t as smooth as the Raptors envision, perhaps things will change on the Siakam front at that point, but for now it looks like he’s part of the club’s plans going forward.
Siakam will make the all star team this season I predict
Not if he’s out for the first two months, that makes it a bit more iffy
OG makes Siakim redundant this year.
It would be a mistake to sell low on Siakam. He was great pre-COVID and definitely suffered from the disruptions of the last two seasons (not being able to play pre-bubble, having to play last season in Tampa, getting COVID, etc.).
Good idea for Clippers
Mann, Bledsoe and Morris for Siakam
Siakam should start the season in Mid January
Clippers have no future picks to offer
Bring down tax bill from $92m to $82m
Sure, if the Clippers are willing to take Malachi Flynn, Dragic, and Khem Birch for Paul George
Must be a clippers fan with no concept of fair value
Nobody wants Bledsoe, Morris!! So it would be Siakam for Mann. It is like we will trade Banton for Kawai?? That is absurd just like Mann, Bledsoe and Morris. Clippers have nothing the Raptors want!!
There’s only one reason that FO’s around the NBA might have thought Siakam was available. The Raps’ FO indicated he was available (either because he actually was, or because the Raps had another agenda, most likely the former). FO’s don’t assume the availability of another team’s players based on data points, and then send off unsolicited trade proposals on that basis.
Uhh, yes they do, as clearly stated in the article. The Raptors NEVER leak any info, so there is ZERO chance any of this came from the Raptors camp. He was never truly available, however it would be irresponsible for the Raptors not to at least listen to offers. In the end, Siakam is an all star, 2nd option on a championship team, MIP, and would cost the MOON if any team actually wanted to trade for him. Raptors are the smartest organization in the league, and know what they have with Pascal.
Ehh I disagree Theo23 . Id bet he’s still available
Maybe Raptors NEVER leak any info they don’t want to, but DXC point was they wanted to leak this, and I agree, they did
LOL. Yeah, other teams just have nothing better to do than float unsolicited trade proposals to the Raps on Siakam of all players. If you don’t understand that a player like Siakam making max is a qualified asset (at best), then stay clear of the concept of player valuation. Stay a clueless homer.
Don’t believe the reporting. He’s available and GSW has to step up on the offer. Wiseman, Wiggins and 2 1st rounders is a fair trade. Remember DeRozan was never shopped, not.
The Warriors aren’t giving up Wiseman. Keep dreamin bro
Theres a reason the Warriors couldn’t move wiseman for a legit NBA player this off-season, and that reason isn’t that he’s good.
Wiseman is really a throw-in to match salaries. Watched him in a few games and really nothing special. Played always out of control. He’s an asset to get another team’s 1st round pick for Raps.
Sakiam is a injured player no team is going to give the raptor anything of value for a big man with a bum shoulder. Warriors don’t want him so why bring him up. Warriors need a healthy player not a injury prone big man.
Uhh, no he’s not. And that reported deal wouldn’t even land the Warriors Siakams shoe laces, let alone Siakam. What a trash deal for the Raptors, fortunately the Raptors aren’t stupid like some teams/fans are and wouldn’t accept such rubbish for an all-star/MIP/second option on a championship team.
True Raptor followers know this is the time to sell Siakam rather than to wait 2 suffering yrs when he becomes only an expiring contract for trade purposes.
Siakam is injured and will be out the first 2 months. Nobody knows how his shoulder will respond to coming back. Nobody is trading for him until he proves he is healthy. Warriors do not want him so stop claiming you would get 4 players for him.
There were rumors about a Siakam trade last yr. He was being shopped way before the draft. There was plenty of smoke. Raptors never did anything to shut it down. So now they finally come out with a statement. Raptors are always about the cap and their future with it. Seems to me they just want to sell high on Siakam. They don’t want to pay his new contract. So it’s best to go young with Barnes as their main talent. They can get good value for him now.
