Power forward/center Marko Simonović has verified recent rumors that he will be joining the Bulls for the 2021/22 season, his first in the NBA, tweets Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.
Along with forward Patrick Williams, Simonović was part of the first draft class selected by the Bulls’ then-new front office team of president Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley. The 6’11” big man, most recently with the Serbian club KK Mega Basket of the Adriatic Basketball Association, was chosen with the No. 44 pick in 2020.
In 25 games for Mega Basket during the 2020/21 season, Simonović averaged 15.7 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 1.7 APG, and 1.0 SPG.
The 21-year-old’s shot diet indicates potential as a floor-spreading big man who will not fear contact inside, operating as a reserve for a new-look Chicago team heavy on versatile scorers and passers. Simonović connected on 47.3% of his field goal looks last season, including 34.9% of his 5.2 three-point attempts a game. He also converted 77.8% of his free-throw tries.
Chicago is reportedly using a chunk of its mid-level exception to sign Alex Caruso, but could save a portion of that MLE for Simonović’s deal.
6’11” big man who can shoot from outside and doesn’t fear inside contact. Markkanen’s exact opposite. Well played Bulls Front Office.
I dont like markkanen but i know he can shoot.40,2% from 3s last season.it isnt bad.but bulls must trade him or resign him with low contract.he can be good bench player, not starter.
He’s already pouting and whining about wanting to be traded. No other team would even make him an offer. He’s a loser and would be a cancer so what would you want him around for?
Karnisovas and Eversley ( As soon as they lose Markkanen), Have successfully removed all of the Gar-Pax mistakes from the last 5 years. Cost them just about all their draft picks for the next 3 years but they shouldn’t need any with the roster they’ve assembled. If they can sign Aldridge and he can play a few minutes a game and mentor Simonovic and Williams then it’s a worthwhile sign. Including that loser Boylan. Nice job. It’s great to have great leadership again. Rather be investigated by the NBA for signing FA’s early than have them avoid the place like the plague. Should be fun watching the Hawks and Bulls this winter.
Only took them 1 year.
Unc, I am impressed I agree with all of your comments today. Much appreciated.
They only owe one more 1st round pick to orl in the next 3 years, the Spurs pick will be in 2025 at the earliest. The still have 2 1st picks in the next 3 years
Basically a Serb in BB terms.
Serb Vasiliye Mecic will have an NBA “out” next summer for OKC. He seems in no hurry to get here, or wants to take a “victory tour”.
Bulls have been making some fine choices, except Vucevic.
Vucevic is a placeholder while they groom a youngster. He is by far the oldest guy on the roster now, but he is a good mentor and teammate.
He’s 30.
Good to see at least some Bulls’ fans coming around on the Bulls’ new FO. Others should get on board or risk looking silly. Like all the PHX fans who spent a year ripping every decision their current FO. Actually, they may just be happy anyway.
I think AK might be the best talent evaluator among NBA FO heads. Wanted him for the Knicks before Rose was hired. This can be argued, I understand. But, at a minimum, he’s the most proven evaluator when it comes to the international market. So, I’d be shocked if Simonovic wasn’t (at least) real good.
