Plenty of trade speculation has swirled around the Pacers heading into the 2021 offseason, but a league source tells J. Michael of The Indianapolis Star (subscription required) that a “seismic” change to Indiana’s roster is unlikely.
One player whose name has popped up frequently in trade rumors during the last year or two is Myles Turner, and teams haven’t slowed their efforts to land the rim-protecting big man. According to Michael, the Knicks have gotten more aggressive lately in their pursuit of Turner — they aren’t the only club trying to trade for Turner, but they appear to be making the strongest push as of late, Michael says.
Here’s more on the Pacers:
- With lottery pick Chris Duarte expected to step into a role on the wing, the Pacers are interested in moving Jeremy Lamb, reports Michael. Lamb, who was limited to 36 games last season due to injuries, is on a $10.5MM expiring contract.
- The Pacers have had discussions about whether Malcolm Brogdon is the answer at point guard, according to Michael, who writes that the team also talked about possibly pursuing Lonzo Ball. However, Ball doesn’t seem to be a serious option for Indiana at this point, Michael adds.
- T.J. McConnell and Doug McDermott both have interest in returning to the Pacers, but McConnell wants security (ie. a multiyear deal) and McDermott may get too pricey for the team. As he’s previously reported, Michael notes that McConnell is more likely than McDermott to re-sign with the Pacers.
- Michael points to Avery Bradley, Lou Williams, Will Barton, and Garrett Temple as some free agents who may appeal to Indiana.
Pacers have $11 million tax room
If signing McDermott, they reach tax line
McDermott market 3 year $40m
It’s a good idea to dump lamb salary
I’d be intrigued with both ball and brogdon at the guard positions
They seem like they could mesh well on both ends
Move turners salary to have the space and get a cheaper backup big
Turner to Knicks for Mitch and 2022 Knicks top 10 pick
Now they have money to sign all own FAs and they have TE 15m
And use MLE
Its a good idea imo as well- I like that pairing , old school, tough, Indy backcourt of yesteryears
Probably need to trade Turner into a team w Cap – NYK works but it would take a hell of a lot more than Sillys suggesting. Id love CHA, and they could make the cap work , but seems they have 3/4 young C already albeit no alpha
Turner for Beasley
Cringe
Beasley who?
Jeremy Lamb would be a nice addition to the Celtics.
Yea agreed Jeremy Lamb would play so well along jaylen brown and jayson Tatum
The Pacers are also interested in Eric Gordon, who could return to his hometown.
If anyone wants Turner for a good offer, they HAVE to take Lamb and his “rehabbed” ACL injury in a package deal that includes at least one promising young player; amongst others and/or 1-5 draft picks!!
Yes
Wiggins and 2022 First for Turner and Lamb
Wiggins is promising and never injured
Pacers drafted Chris Duarte who’s ready to step in at age 24. They have no use for Andrew Wiggins.
If that’s the ask Turner will stay in Indy. In fact, it seems regardless of price the interest in Turner is minimal.
He’s a good player but his skillset is potpourri. Great rim protector. Poor rebounder. Get annihilated by Embiid. Shoots 3’s.
Pacers are a team that’ll only ever be alright never great. Cause they are scared of big contracts and in order to be a serious threat you need big name player on big deals.
I thought a good idea could be Wiggins and Wiseman to Toronto, Siakim and bits to Indy then Turner and Lamb to GSW. Obviously include some picks and young players in there but it could have been great for all three. Pacers will never do it cause it would actually mean having a big contract.
GSW would have a shot blocking, three point shooting centre and a bench impact shooter.
Toronto gets back the best Canadian in the league, and a high potential young centre, which would make a interesting little rebuild for them.
Indy would need some sweeteners but Siakim would be a great fit with Sabonis and between Brogdon LeVert Warren himself and Sabonis you could potentially have almost 5, 20 points per game scorers
Off the top of my head I can think of SGA as the best Canadian in the league… sure there are a few more better than Wigs right now!!!
I mean Wigs was kind of good/decent in MIN… but boy did he regress & take a step back this last year in GSW, so much as he is a definite negative now!!!
Yeah was a huge reach with that call but did it isn’t be called the maple mamba or something cringe like that. Anyways I don’t think he was that bad for GSW but he’s never going to be what people thought he would be. Him and Wiseman would be a great return for the rebuilding raptors tho
jammal murray’s decent.
Turner, Jackson and Duarte for Mitch and Burks.
? S&T for Burks? Jackson who? Indy says why?
I’ll never understand the reason Myles Turner gets talked about as someone the Pacers should move
Probably because the Pacers are looking to move him. For a player who is ~7’ tall and plays 30+ minutes per, you’d think he could pull in a few more boards per game and a couple of more points.
Me neither. I guess that’s why Pacers are always rebuilding or retooling.
The only reason is because he’s a bad fit with sabonis. Have to choose one or the other can’t play them both together. They play exactly the same on offense. Defense works but both guys like to shoot the three from the Five Spot and start high instead of majoring in a post game. They’re just too similar at that end of the Court.
Packers have a nice assortment of players just no ‘Star’ talent to take them deep in the playoffs.
Rodgers, Adam’s…
Dallas should go after Malcom and Turner. Trade a rick carlise favorite (dright powell and trey burke) for the otherturner and brogan. Dallas will have enough cap room-after trading away Powell to make it work.
Dallas gets a PG and a good center
Pacers- open up 30m in cap space this offseason or next offseason and rick carlise can rebulid/shape out the team he wants
I get that Doug can shoot but damn does he get run off the floor on D. Hoping cavs steer clear.
Just don’t really understand Turner over Mitch. I get Turner is more seasoned and ready. Mitchs future to me is as good if not better than Turners. So this screams as a win now move. But why give away assets at a position you’re not hurting at. PG and SG-SF is where we need starters, the most help.
And I don’t get why move Turner. When Sabonis and Turner make up one best two bigs in league. As a C and PF. This could be just to run up the value of Turner. By using Knicks like always. Pacers just trying to get all they can in trade. Still don’t see why you’d want to break up Sabonis and Turner. When imo they should be building around them.
I seriously doubt the Knicks are making any kind of “push” for Turner. If this reporter knows different, he should set forth the details. I like Turner, and he could fit well with Randle, but I’m not sure he’d be able to get his current salary if he was a FA this year. That being the case, it might be an issue whether the Knicks or any other team would even take him into cap space for nothing. Let alone give up significant assets for the privilege.
