The Kings still need to re-balance their roster, writes James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area, and the Sixers still need to find a graceful exit from the debacle they find themselves in with Ben Simmons.
While it’s unlikely the Kings have what Sixers president Daryl Morey might consider the Godfather offer he’s been waiting for, Ham writes that Sacramento has been all in on Simmons since he became potentially available, and the three-time All-Star could represent the franchise-changing move GM Monte McNair has been looking for.
We have more news from around the Pacific Division:
- In a similar vein, Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee writes that sports betting site MyBookie.ag recently gave the Kings the best odds at landing Simmons of any team (+275). Anderson doesn’t believes that the Kings are fully “all-in” on Simmons though, adding that Sacramento is unlikely to include either De’Aaron Fox or Tyrese Haliburton in a potential trade.
- Rajon Rondo isn’t worried about the Lakers’ age as a team, writes Royce Young of ESPN. In fact, he considers it an advantage. “Wisdom is definitely key to winning a championship,” Rondo said after officially rejoining the club. “We have a lot of that, obviously, with the age and experience on the court. I’m most excited about not being the oldest guy on the team anymore.” Rondo adds that it’s tough to last to the age many of the Lakers’ players have without discipline, which will be key for the team in its title hunt.
- While not naming DeAndre Jordan specifically, Marc Stein confirms that – according to his league sources – the Lakers have been exploring the center market, despite Marc Gasol having one more year on his deal.
I guarantee, even if the lakers add Jordan. They will be looking for a center by the deadline or buyout.
@Real1
if the Lakers sign DJ it more than likely won’t be for any significant money. Plus DJ is still a very effective backup. He wouldn’t be asked to do much except be physical and rebound.
Lakers are not looking at Jordan. Jordan is over the hill even for the Lakers. He is slow and terrible.
He looked ok. I watched alot of nets games and he’d be just as effective as Howard. Youtube is very helpful if you use it.
From what I saw Jordan looked very slow. Howard is slow but not as slow as Jordan. Only thing Jordan can do is block shots but once out of the paint anyone could go past him. You should watch current youtube not ones from 10 years ago….
Sooner or later you’ll realize that all nba centers are slow. FWIW, I watched 2021 nets videos. For what the lakers need, he’ll fit right in. Of course your expecting him to run like he’s 23. When a team prefers small ball, the center is the first to go. In every case, NBA teams blamed a slow center while wanting another forward. You’ll learn sooner or later. Like they said howard and Mcgee were bad choices in 2020.People laughed. They played the biggest hand in getting them to the finals. If you can control the boards with physical centers, you control the game. How’d that work out?.
Sacramento changed the course of their franchise (in a positive way for a change) in 98 when they traded for CWebb. They could do the same thing here in 2021 if they make a move for Bennie. I’m thinking Bagley, Buddy & an unprotected 2022 1st is a good starting point to get a deal done
Lol
In what way did Simmons alter the 6ers franchise? Folding in the playoffs and hoping embiid carried them to a title alone? I guess your right, he altered it quite a bit, sick free throw shooting though
You are hilariously unaware of what it takes to win NBA games. If the basketball gods didn’t bless Klaws impossible shot you’d have a very different tone. If you don’t think a 3 time allstar altered the course of the team tanking for picks then you’re opinions are worthless and should be treated as such.
Man yall have extremely short memories lol do you not remember what the 76ers were before Simmons got there? They were the worst franchise in the league for the 5yrs before they drafted Ben. Once Ben starts playing they don’t miss the playoffs anymore. They get progressively better every yr except the yr Ben gets hurt. Last yr they were the best team in the East & Ben was an all-star for the 3rd straight yr, & he easily could made it all 4 yrs. Instead of criticizing Ben how bout u criticize your own obvious weaknesses as a basketball fan
What about that guy Joel Embiid? The MVP candidate?
He have anything to do with the turn around?
No, you’re probably right, it was all Ben Simmons. After all he did average 40 ppg this playoffs.
They took tanking to a whole new level those 5 years. Ben was the turning point of The Process which took way too long. The Thunder are doing it better. Maybe they should trade some of their 869 draft picks for Simmons.
Morey didn’t trade Harden away. That guy has made a heck of a living off of one great trade. Most overrated GM in sports.
He also traded for CP3, Erick Gordon, drafted Capela and montrezl Harrell, signed PJ Tucker from Euroleagues, and hired Mike Dantoni. And tells the truth about the CCP and Taiwan lol
Hired Mike Dantoni was a good move?
How come no one has hired him now?
Your NBA knowledge isn’t up to par. Dantoni is a lead assistant currently. It take time to get hired occasionally, ie Nate McMillan). The rockets were half a game from beating the warriors and making the finals.
Almost none of that worked out. Count the rings with me….
If rings are the only barometer of success, then the vast majority of management in the nba are failures. The rockets went from being irrelevant to contenders because of those moves.
So fire Morey and rehire Colangelo. Your a genius, bill bellamy
According to the article
Fox and Halliburton are not included in Simmons trade
What is your trade idea to beat Wolves?
Both the wolves and Sactown rumors suck, and won’t get a legitimate deal done.
Absolutely no way a trade goes down with Philly unless Fox or Haliburton headline the package (and I’m not so sure Haliburton would be a true “headliner”). Hield would be helpful to the Sixers, but Bagley is a bust so no thanks. Right or wrong, Morey isn’t going to do a deal unless it nets them another star, and outside of Fox the Kings simply don’t have one. Pass.
@brian214
Foxx is better than Simmons defense an all-star status notwithstanding. Simmons is an expensive broken player. Newsflash… no one wants to pay $30-$40 mil per for a defense first point guard whos a liability in important close games and shows an unwillingness to accept criticism or work on his craft. Haliburton plus Helid and draft assets is not bad. Hali might turn into an all-star but gives Sixers what they need now. A pg with outside shooting.
Haliburton “might” turn into an all star…Ben is a ROTY, 3 x all star, 2 x all defensive team… Haliburton + Hield + picks is not bad….but still not good enough or even close
If the Kings throw in Halliburton (I think they should) that might be the best offer. Or maybe Sexton makes even more sense now.
But I think that’s the caliber headline player Philly’s getting. 24 hours ago you could say Simmons will rehabilitate his value on the court then Morey will flip him …. that seems very unlikely now.
Morey needs to realise he’s desperate now and no one is making the ridiculous offer he wants.
That said and having lowered your standards out should only be interested in two players 1. DeAaron Fox and 2. DAngelo Russell.
All star level point guards, both young and on your time line, both capable of running the offence through and both fit with Joel Embiid.
(For Fox we would obviously have to give up more)
1. Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and a unprotected first round pick for DeAaron Fox and Marvin Bagley.
2. Ben Simmons, Isiah Joe and Danny Green for DAngelo Russell, Teauren Prince and 3 first round picks (all top 3 protected)
For the kings your biggest weakness is defence and your addressing that and after getting Ben, your going to need shooting and your also doing that with Curry. Kings then play sides with a combination of 4 guards (Mitchell, Curry, Heild and Haliburton) 3 forwards (Simmons, Barnes and Harkless) and 2 centres (Holmes and Thompson). Outside your main 9 players you have Davis, Len, and some young role players.
Last year you finished 3 wins outside the play in tournament (31), I think this team would be almost a playoff lock at near 40 wins.
For the TWolves, again the big issue has been defence, Simmons straight away addresses that. They have created this fake big 3 with KAT, Dlo and Ant, but because of a lack of defence and health they never took off. Ben and KAT would make a real big 2 with any a developing 3rd. You’d have a side of Beverly Ant Green Simmons and KAT with Beasley off the bench along with Joe, Okogie, Naz Reid and McDaniels. That’s a solid 10 guy rotation, and much improved from last season.
Foxx > Simmons in terms of what Sixers need.
100%, Fox is also 2 years younger.
And I mean if your the kings you can’t complain that much either. Haliburton Heild Simmons and Barnes, with Mitchell and Curry off the bench. Elite defenders and elite shooters. Plus a first round pick.
That to me makes more sense then drafting Fox (PG), Haliburton (PG) and Mitchell (PG). Not to mention Bagley over Doncic.
Take Simmons who you can build around with what you already have and your a playoff team. Add a young centre that can shoot some threes and your set.
Does anybody really think that Sacramento is one of the three California teams that Simmons wants to go to? Fox is a better player and wants to be here. I don’t think you can trade him and hope Simmons decides that he both likes Sacramento and is going to improve. Also, if he wasn’t over hyped from such a young age I don’t think he is multi time all-star. He is good though.
I agree and I’d also throw Sexton in there too. Fox is by far the best of the 3.
FWIW if I was Sac I’d rather flip Fox and use Halliburton to build with Simmons that vice versa. The shooting pairing of Fox and Simmons isn’t great.
Why doesn’t everyone understand that Simmons just isn’t that great? Morey should be glad he is receiving offers. Two of the worst teams only for a reason.
Been saying for weeks that Ty and Fox are off the table. Can anyone name a better play than Buddy that the 6ers could realistically land?
Literally 60% of the nba. Hield was in talks for Kuzma and KCP. The only official offer the Sixers received included a better player, Brogdon and a 1st. Hield is a one trick pony that makes a lot of money. The Sixers already have that at 1/3 of the cost in Seth Curry
