5:38pm: The signing is official, according to a team press release.
12:41pm: The Rockets are signing guard Armoni Brooks to an Exhibit 10 contract, a source confirmed to Hoops Rumors. News of the agreement was first reported by Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
Brooks, 23, will have the opportunity to make the team’s regular-season roster in training camp this fall. He spent 20 games with the club at the end of last season, averaging 11.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
The Rockets have one final spot for camp and could consider adding Anthony Lamb, who signed a two-way contract with the team last March. Both Brooks and Lamb played summer league with Houston in Las Vegas after receiving two-way qualifying offers.
Should Brooks not make the regular-season roster, he’d be eligible to receive a bonus up to $50K if he spends at least 60 days with Houston’s G League affiliate.
This guy should have a roster spot. He can shoot the ball.
He is a very good shooter, and played quite well down the stretch last season when the Rockets were forced to use 30 different players during the year.
Maybe if he was a PG, but they already have plenty of SG’s on their roster.
I know they have plenty of shooting guards, but how many of them actually shoot better than him? Besides EG who can’t stay healthy and should be traded away.
Statistically, Gordon isn’t a great shooter.
Not recently, but 37% from three for his career’s not bad. Eventually they will part ways with Gordon, but they still have plenty of better options than Brooks. Such as Green, Porter, Tate, KJ Martin, Josh Christopher, and David Nwaba.
Tate and KJ are not SGs and David is a defensive player. Porter is a point and Green is a SG. That would only leave JC as a bench threat.
Green hasn’t played in the NBA to be listed as a better option. Unless you’re going on draft status alone. I think Brooks is a good option if Wall or Gordon is moved by trade. Both are hard sells right now
Jalen Green has played in the summer league and the G-League where he was absolutely dominant. He is easily a better option right now than Armoni Brooks will ever be, don’t be ridiculous.
And there is no way that Brooks is beating out any of those 6 players for a spot on the 15-man roster. The only one he could conceivably beat out right now is Khyri Thomas, and even that’s not a given.
In 2021 there’s no real difference between SG and SF, or even PF.
If they wanted to sign a player whose sole purpose was to shoot threes, they would have re-signed Gerald Green by now.
G-League same one Brooks played in too and did pretty good for himself. Green hasn’t even proven himself at the NBA level yet and you act like he is a super star like Curry, Harden, James, etc.
Jalen Green will be among those guys a lot sooner than you think.
Detroit will regret passing on him just like the Blazers did with MJ.
I think Detroit did better with Cade to be honest. I think that is a HUGE win for both. Green can be a Steve Francis or can be the next Clyde. It’s too soon to judge Green or even Porter Jr. I think us fans needs to dial it back a bit and not expect Green to hit elite level with Curry and others. Not trying to rain on your parade for the guy. I figured Mobley would have been a better pick but he wouldn’t meet with the Rockets. Each to their own. But pump the breaks a bit on these young guys. Next season and half will give us fans some legit insight on these young guys. I am stoked but trying to be realistic at the same time.
Wrong. Jalen green is actually the next OJ Mayo. Top 5 pick coming in for the rockets next year. Let’s hope they don’t mess it up. Should have taken Suggs or Mobley hahahahahahaa
Mobley would’ve helped the club more than you realize. Probably better than Green and time will tell. Funny how you mentioned Suggs when no one here said anything about the guy. Mobley was one guy that could have deepened the PF and Center position. Something the Rockets are not at depth with.
Actually, shooting 3’s doesn’t seem to be Tate and Nwaba’s forte so I’m not such why you included them.
I like brooks a lot, but it all depends how they plan to use Christopher, I like him more as a PG. but if he is going to develop as a SG that means him green and Gordon will be there making brooks a pointless addition.
And comparing Green and Cade RN is pointless. A few game in the summer league has no contex. They played in completely different environments last year. And are both extremely good talents as are Mobley and Suggs. But we won’t know who made the best call for a few years so no point saying. It’s like comparing Lamelo and Edwards from last year, Lamelo had a better rookie season but It means very little right now. We won’t know for a few years who is better a better pick.
Would love to see Brooks stick. Went to UH and now has a chance to be a role player with the Rockets. He’s very solid and can shoot the damn ball.
Brooks would be a nice option if Wall or Gordon are moved. Otherwise Brooks will not see minutes with what they have. Wall and Gordon are hard sells and Rockets would need to sweeten the deal to make it possible. Odds of that is slim to none.
Agreed. However, EG has a hard time staying healthy and Wall isn’t in the team’s future plans. I really think Brooks could turn into a quality role player in the league. He has good traits to be a good player. Hopefully he can stick around.
I totally agree with you. I wish the Rockets would utilize Brooks a bit more. Tate can slide to SF and open up minutes for Brooks. But again, this is why I don’t coach because what sounds good for me, may not sound good to others.
He sucks Rockets sucks. Why is this even here. He’ll be out NBA in three yrs. Worst team in history of mankind. Wood will soon blow this team up. Another Diva who will be moved. Rockets are all about that. That’s basketball ignorance in Houston. When you don’t learn from experience. Rockets Suck
