Jae’Sean Tate wants to reward the Rockets‘ faith in him after they decided to guarantee his contract for the upcoming season, tweets Mark Berman of Fox 26. Tate, who played two years overseas before coming to the NBA, will make about $1.52MM.
Tate was an All-Rookie First Team selection, averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 70 games. He quickly established himself as a starter and was one of the few bright spots in a difficult season for Houston. The Rockets will have a $1.78MM team option on Tate for 2022/23.
“I’ve been working really hard this summer and my whole goal is just to prove (general manager) Rafael (Stone), (executive) Patrick and (owner) Tillman (Fertitta) right,” Tate said. “That they did the right thing guaranteeing those contracts. I think that’ll show this year.” (Twitter link)
There’s more from the Southwest Division:
- It doesn’t appear that Juan Hernangomez, who was acquired from the Timberwolves this week, will have a future with the Grizzlies. ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweeted on Saturday that Hernangomez wasn’t asked to report to the team or take a physical, just like Rajon Rondo, who is now a free agent after reaching a buyout agreement with Memphis. Hernangomez has two years and $14.3MM left on his contract, although the final year doesn’t become guaranteed until June 20, 2022, notes Evan Barnes of The Memphis Commercial Appeal.
- Body camera footage has been released from the arrest of Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes in Los Angeles last month, per Christian Clark of NOLA.com. Hayes had an altercation with police after the incident, which he said stemmed from a fight with a girlfriend. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and charged with resisting arrest.
- The Pelicans received $1.2MM in the sign-and-trade deal that sent Lonzo Ball to the Bulls, tweets Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.
Gar “this isn’t a good basketball trade but lemme get some cash” Forman.
The Hayes bodycam footage is sickening. American police all need to be re-trained or fired. Stop putting your knee on another persons neck for ANY reason, ffs…
Stop putting your hands on women too, it’s sickening he’s 7ft tall and she’s too scared to call the police herself. If you do that you deserve MORE than a knee to the neck, ffs
And on top of the fact that he possibly assaulted his gf, he shoved the officer into the wall. If he simply complies and lets them do their job, then the knee to the neck doesn’t happen.
Tate was a nice find by Rockets. Solid guy who plays both ways.
Yes that knee just seems to be a go to move for police. Gotta be a better way. Hayes should never have put himself in this position.
Hayes was a big drafted on upside. If a player is not quite ready for mins. I don’t get why they don’t play him in G-league. Best way to develop a player is by giving him mins. Why sit him on bench. It’s like Triple AAA stars. They don’t go straight up to big leagues. It’s better to play than sit. You don’t develop skills by sitting. Just don’t get this.
Good point about Hayes but the GLeague is about the equivalent to Double-A ball, rather than AAA, so it’s really not preparing guys for the NBA, as much as it’s literally just giving them an avenue to get on the court/get minutes. There’s nobody in the GLeague that’s gonna get him ready for Embiid or Ayton – or Jokic. But, unfortunately, it’s the best system they have even tho it’s a joke.
Tate was a nice find, but he will have a much harder time next season remaining in the starting five even after starting 58 games last year mostly because of all the injuries. Theis has been a starter the last two seasons with Boston and Chicago plus his size and defense should complement Christian Wood, along with his experience. Tate will still get plenty of minutes with the 2nd unit helping out Sengun on the defensive end along with KJ Martin (and Garuba once he’s ready, but he’ll start out in the G-League).
It doesn’t matter because the Knicks suck and will always suck. They’re a classless and horribly ran organization that needs to dissolve.
The successful tv show “Cops” is kept alive largely because certain types like being seen on tv struggling with the power, even if they’re part-naked and compromised… maybe moreso, since intoxication is an excuse. It’s a strange urge to be sure but whites have the gene so why not blacks? The caller said the cops will find a large semi-famous man in a dangerous mood. (Bring cameras.)
I find the replay difficult to watch because Hayes is trying so hard to make a case while making it worse. It was hard to see the advertised knee-ing or shoving or much of anything except lots of passive-aggressive acting-out, like Sterling Brown did. Hayes says “can’t breathe” but does not try shutting up.
I do not rate knee usage anyway, which can be necessary to get the cuffs on. Cops are not supermen.
Well Hayes got this off his chest, so maybe he will square up now. He did have good shooting percentages, of course he is not usually shooting very far out. Like the Pels, things could go either way. There are not many pictures of Hayes with his mouth closed, try that pose.
