Originally reported as a two-year deal with a second-year player option, Rudy Gay‘s new contract with the Jazz actually covers three years, with a third-year player option, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac (Twitter link). The full three-year value of the contract, which was officially announced on Friday, comes in at about $18.55MM.
Smith has details on several other newly-signed contracts from around the Western Conference, so let’s dive in and round up some of the highlights (all links are courtesy of Smith)…
- Mike Conley‘s three-year deal with the Jazz includes some unlikely bonuses and has a partial guarantee on year three (Twitter link). The 2023/24 salary of $24.36MM is only guaranteed for $14.32MM.
- Devonte’ Graham‘s four-year contract with the Pelicans starts at $11MM and features 5% annual raises (Twitter link). The fourth year salary of $12.65MM is only partially guaranteed for $2.85MM.
- The Lakers used most of their taxpayer mid-level exception to sign Kendrick Nunn (Twitter link). His deal is worth $5MM in 2021/22, with a $5.25MM second-year player option.
- The Mavericks used the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception to sign Reggie Bullock to a three-year deal worth slightly over $30MM (Twitter link). The contract, which includes a 5% trade bonus, is only guaranteed for $5.45MM (of $10.49MM) in the final year.
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s five-year, maximum-salary extension with the Thunder includes a 15% trade kicker (Twitter link).
Gay in Utah is a sneaky good deal. Third year player option might get ugly tho.
With a healthy Donovan Mitchell the Jazz would’ve gone deeper in the playoffs. And they should be favorites to win the West next season, even ahead of the grossly popular Lakers.
Yikes… What a grossly hideous prediction.
That’s an even better contract for Conley than we thought. It helps motivate Conley to do what’s needed to fix his hamstring long-term, if possible. Sure hope he does. I really like his game.
Rudy Gay’s contract is actually also great. I’d much rather know what we have for 3 years for planning. Could always trade him if it doesn’t work out. However, he’s versatile enough that he’s always going to be useful, especially at that price.
Well done, Jazz!
What you have is a solid experienced team player that as a SASpurs fan … I didn’t want him or Mills to go. He will be missed here in San Antonio … :(((
Conley looks to be a overpaid shot player to me but that seems to be the normal for today’s NBA.
Jazz filled their team well. Jazz are deeper. But still have not proven to show up in playoffs. Imo they are a team that can be stopped. They are predictable on offense. That hurst them when you are down to best 8 teams. Playoff teams play D and can take you out your gm. Jazz still haven’t taken that next step. Just like Bucks three yrs ago.
I like all those signings. Graham can help the Pelicans. He’s got his shot to prove he’s a starting PG.
Reggie can help Mavs. He brings defense and a true wing. Can cover multiple positions. And can hit the open look. He’ll fit in well with Luka. Good place for Reggie.
The Lakers need Nunn as a PG and his youth. He’ll get more mins here and will be expected to run team. This is a big opportunity to show the world. Imo he’s as good as Schroeder.
Slovenia lost the Bronze game only because Doncic slammed the same funnybone area on hard surfaces twice, among other aches to left shoulder, and could not shoot in the last three minutes or so. Also had time off and declining efficiency after a hot start but they still almost beat France.
The Mavs though… have only added Moses Brown and Reggie Bullock with Hardaway still hanging? Doncic may not like that either.
Must say I would prefer watching Slovenia.
*edit, That was a semifinal game, SLO-FRA
