Spencer Dinwiddie is excited for his future with the Wizards and for how he expects to fit with star backcourt mate Bradley Beal, writes Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington. According to Hughes, Dinwiddie isn’t phased by the uncertainty surrounding Beal’s long-term status with the Wizards.
“I spoke to him and obviously he’s his own man and his decisions are his own,” Dinwiddie said. “So, I can’t talk about his plans or what he’s going to do. I think that we have a chance to have a (good thing together). If that’s not what comes to fruition then it’s not.”
Dinwiddie added that part of his job is to help Beal by knowing when to get out of the way and let the star shooting guard go to work, as well as knowing when it’s on him to help carry the load.
We have more from the Wizards:
- Dinwiddie had previously been cleared from his ACL recovery, but was unable to start five-on-five activity because the Nets were eliminated just before he was able to get back on the floor, Hughes tweets. Dinwiddie had been vocal about being ready to return to the court if the Nets were able to last to the Finals, but after Brooklyn’s loss to the Bucks in the Eastern Semifinals, those plans were thwarted.
- New head coach Wes Unseld Jr. will be retaining assistant coach Ryan Richman, reports Fred Katz of The Athletic (via Twitter). Richman was an assistant coach with the team last season, and the G League affiliate head coach the year before that. Richman will be a second-row assistant, Katz writes.
- The Wizards also announced the hiring of four assistant coaches to join Unseld and Richman, according to a team statement. Pat Delany, Mike Miller, Joseph Blair and Zach Guthrie will join the Wizards’ bench this season. Washington also announced that in addition to Richman, the team retained assistant coach Dean Oliver and promoted Alex McLean to assistant coach/Director of Player Development.
The Wizards have Improved their franchise by leaps and bounds over the last 400 days
Very fluid situation over there now, tho that means things can still easily go backwards-
But they got the car outta the mud at least and the roadtrip can precede. Will be one of the teams I watch more closely next year w interested eyes
I think wizards will be the most improved team this company by year. Bryant will be back and all these roll players and Spenser who is a team player.
Wizards are definitely going to be an improved team, but even still, they’re likely to be no better than the 7th or 8th seed, unfortunately..
Which, that kinda sucks, especially because I think they are really heading in the right direction, but it is what it is.
Even though they’re likely to finish somewhere around the 7th-9th spot in the East, I still think they’ll make the playoffs, and I think they’ll also have a better record once the season is all said and done!!
Wizards need their young players to step up. Beal and Dinwiddie are a solid backcourt. I like Dinwiddie as a PG. I wanted him on Knicks.
I could definitely see that Dinwiddie would have been a perfect fit on the Knicks..
I think Kemba was a solid addition, and a good consolation prize though. If he can stay healthy, they very well could have gotten a steal.
That’s MUCH BETTER than them running out of options, getting desperate, and then overpaying for Dennis Schroeder!!
Wizards will be pretty decent next year but will it be enough to keep Beal from wanting to jump ship?
Either way they now have a lot of useful pieces if they were to rebuild. Hachimura, Avdija, Kuzma, Todd, Kispert, Holiday and Winston. You also have KCP, Harrell and Bertans who’s deals could be used to match salaries or be flipped at the deadline for first round picks.
Going to be an interesting next few years for the Wizards and to see which direction they go.
That’s a good point. Those three are good vets. But can also help a contender. When trade deadline comes along.
Dinwiddie should be a big help in getting Unseld integrated and a new era begun.
Isn’t it nice when a player in the middle of things is open publicly, at least somewhat, enough for a fan to follow… and in a natural language, not something dictated to please the FO that he reads to blow people off and keep everything internal and mysterious and corporate. Authentic and no cussing for emphasis or intimidation.
Any doubt that any player will feel left out like Bertans was? There may not be a need for the FO to figure out how to dump Bertans… In theory…
The games have to be played. No results in yet.
Bertans can turn it around. I think Westbrook’s game did not mesh with the looks he needs. We shall see!!!
