Kyrie Irving has not yet been vaccinated for COVID-19, Yaron Weitzman of FOX Sports reports. Under current New York City restrictions, players are prohibited from practicing or playing in their home arena “without providing proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination unless they have an approved medical or religious exemption.” Thus, the Nets star point guard could technically miss all 41 of his team’s home games unless he receives one of these approved exemptions. GM Sean Marks said this week that he doesn’t expect vaccine-related issues to prevent any of his players from suiting up during the regular season.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- Undrafted rookie David Duke Jr. and third-year forward Devontae Cacok are among the players who will be competing for the Nets’ remaining two-way contract, according to Tom Dowd of the team’s website. “Regarding the two-way, I think it’s nice to go in and have healthy competition,” GM Sean Marks said. “That’s the way we’re going to look at that. There’s going to be nothing set in stone. There’s nobody with a leg up, per se.”
- Celtics forward Jaylen Brown admits he’s still dealing with soreness in his wrist, he told Marc Spears of The Undefeated. Brown is recovering from a torn ligament in his left wrist, which required surgery in May and sidelined him for the postseason. “My wrist has been healing. Some days it’s better than others,” he said. “I got to continue to push and work, but I’m excited to be there for camp.”
- The Raptors must find ways to maximize a “formless” style of basketball due to the configuration of the roster, Eric Koreen of The Athletic writes. Lacking an efficient, high-usage star, they must rely on versatility, flexibility and unpredictability to keep defenses off-balance about where the ball is designed to go.
What’s going to happen with Kyrie and Wiggins?
There must be other unvaccinated players out there.
Nope, just them!
No there are definitely many others, just not anyone as well-known.
The vaccination rate in the NBA is somewhere around 90% so there should be around 50 or more unvaccinated players right now.
One would think that some of the guys who are on the bubble would help their chances of making the team by getting the vax, but it’s their own fault if they refuse and lose their job. Right or wrong.
Hard to fix dumb.
I guess flat-Earthers will be granted a religious exemption.
All hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster!
Pastafarians like Ms./Mr. Garrison and Richard Dawkins agree.
Why are nba players hesitant to take their dose of covid vaccines? They could take anyone that stands out in the market (pfizer, moderna, etc.) Geez I got mine (sinovac) with some apprehensions as we di not have any choices other than taking it or being left unvaccinated.. They (nba players) should be role models in every sense of thev world with the kind of money that they are earning..
Kyrie is just in his own world. Never understand the anti vaccine crowd. They scream the loudest about economy. They scream the loudest about masking up. About restrictions. Yet the quickest way to get over all that. Get to some kind of normal. Is for all to be Vaxed.
I hope he causes them another lost season.

I bet he waits till opening day. I hope they do t let him play.
Kyrie shouldn’t play if he is not vaccinated
I guess Kyrie thinks Covid will fall off the edge of the earth before it reaches him.
We hoped Kyrie would star for the Celts but in actuality he screwed up our team for a couple of years. Last year for the Nets Kyrie again was injured during the playoffs, thus screwing them up. I hope he does it again! I guess he’s so full of himself or something. Philly & the Nets starting off badly. Go Celts!
I applaud Kyrie. Good luck.
Kyrie is so injury prone and fragile the wound from a vaccine needle would have him out for 6 months
