The Raptors have 12 players with guaranteed contracts and five others with non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed deals. Eric Koreen of The Athletic speculates on who might grab the remaining roster openings, with Yuta Watanabe and Freddie Gillespie most likely to nail down spots. That would leave Sam Dekker, Ishmail Wainright and Isaac Bonga in a battle for the final spot, unless Toronto chooses to carry 14 players on the regular roster.
We have more on the Atlantic Division:
- Dennis Schroder cost himself serious money but passing on a four-year, $84MM extension offer from the Lakers but he’s taking a lighthearted approach to that mistake, Brianna Williams of ESPN relays. In an Instagram post, the Celtics guard — who settled for a one-year, $5.9MM contract — said he “fumbled the bag” and invited fans to insert their best joke about his bad free agent gamble.
- Details on Robert Williams‘ extension with the Celtics were reported late last month and now Keith Smith provides more specifics on the incentives in the four-year deal (Twitter link). Williams will make $446,429 if he plays 69 games; an additional $223,215 if the team reaches the conference semifinals along with meeting the games criteria; $223,214 more if the Celtics make the Eastern Conference finals; and $446,429 if he’s named to the league’s All-Defense First Team, or $223,215 if he’s named to the All-Defense Second Team. Those incentives will increase by 8% per year after the deal goes into effect in 2022/23.
- Would the Sixers benefit from Tyrese Maxey‘s offensive skills in the starting lineup? Kyle Neubeck of Philly Voice takes a closer look at whether playing Maxey with the other starters would make Philadelphia a better postseason team in the long run.
Schroder’s new number with the C’s should be 84 have some real fun with it
I think we might be a year away from Maxey starting but he absolutely should be the first guy off the bench and should eat into a lot of Shake Milton minutes which are 2nd worst minutes on the team behind Furkan Korkmaz minutes.
I kind of think it is somewhere in the middle. I believe Maxey won’t take over as starter until midway through or late in the season. By the time the playoffs start I think he will be the starting PG.
Sixers got nothing till they move Ben. Nothing else works without moving on from Ben. Maxey has wanted out, so says his agent. Why would you even want him on team. Been saying this since the playoffs. Ben to Kings brings back best haul. Ben and Maxey to Kings >>>>
For >> Halliburton, Hield, Bagley, #1 pick.
All young guys and vets. Halliburton is an allstar PG in Philly. Hield gives you the shooting and scoring at the 2. Bagley with Embiid will become what we all thought. I’d start all three.
PG – Halliburton
SG – Hield
SF – Harris
PF – Bagley
C – Embiid
Now Sixers have a strong bench. They could come out the East. Deeper than Nets or Bucks.
His agent is just a Dbag
Maxey never wanted out. The Sixers have needed a good PG for years and it’s a great situation for him. If Rich Paul forces a trade for him all it proves is Noel is right about Paul not caring about what is best for his clients.
Harris can’t play the 3, look at his numbers the past 3 years at the 3 and 4 spots and it is easy to see why his minutes at 3 have dwindled. He is nearly unplayable at the 3
If Wall is healthy and right, just 90%. But a strong healthy 90% of what he was. Then Celtics could move on him. A 20 n 10 PG.
Celtics have gone after Wood before. They have a big TE. They can take on Wall as long as Wood comes with him.
Wood fits in TE ….. then
Wall >> for >> Smart, Horford, Langford
Rockets don’t have to give up picks. Maybe they can get a pick in deal. Smart and Horford are great for the rebuild. Smart great for Green and for Porter. Horford great for the bigs. Both can start. Langford could still workout.
Love for Yuta is overboard. Having him on the roster for the upcoming season would mean another lost one for Raps. Anytime he’s on the floor no one guards him. Would rather see roster spot taken by a shooter like Paul Watson who was mistakenly dumped.
He’s only there for garbage time, not sure what depth you expect for the 13th, 14th or 15th man up.
You obviously didn’t watch many Raptors games last season. Anyways, NYK were a flash in the pan. Nets will win it all when they get rid of Kyrie. But then you may be a fan of the sh*t show at Philly.
Says the guy who never watched the Knicks. Only flash you see is basketball passing you by lol.
One playoff series in past 10 yrs and Knick fans wants to hold a parade. Sorry, the parade has to wait for another 10 yrs when they make playoffs again. But that’s a flash for you Knicks fans.
Watson is a better player(so is mccaw) but health is a big part of professional sports and unfortunately PW just can’t stay healthy.
You really didn’t say McCaw is a better player … there’s only a single person who believes this .. ok, two with Mrs. McCaw.
Watanabe and Gillespie would actually be my cuts. I think Ishmail has earned a spot on the roster, and I like what I see in Sam Dekker as well. I’d give the final spot to Yuta or Freddie, and have Bonga develop in the G league if possible.
You really can’t expect him to willingly bonga his way to Raps905.
Wall will not be a Celtic!
