DeAndre Jordan is expected to sign with the Lakers once the Nets’ deal with the Pistons is completed and Detroit waives him, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets. Jordan will receive a veteran’s minimum contract of one year and $2.6MM from Los Angeles.
Brooklyn agreed to trade Jordan along with four second-round picks and $5.78MM in cash for Jahlil Okafor and Sekou Doumbouya. The Pistons are expected to buy out and waive Jordan, who has two years and nearly $20MM remaining on his contract.
Jordan is giving back $4MM to get out of his contract, Charania adds in another tweet.
How much Jordan, who fell out of Brooklyn’s rotation last season, would play with the Lakers is a major question mark. Los Angeles still has Marc Gasol on the roster and also signed Dwight Howard in free agency. Anthony Davis, naturally, will also see minutes at center. However, there’s been speculation that Gasol might not return to Los Angeles for the upcoming season.
The Lakers already have 13 players with guaranteed contracts and two others, Chaundee Brown and Mac McClung, on non-guaranteed deals.
Kevin Love and they’re done.
This is almost comical. The Lakers and Nets are going to feature 12 former All-stars on their team. I know the narrative being pushed is that their old but a lot of these guys are going to be playing 20 minutes or less and should be able to stay active. Just being able to bring in a seasoned vet like Mello, Howard, etc is priceless.
Till some get hurt. Then the rest have to up their minutes. Playing more minutes they get hurt, and returning players get over worked.
In the end its a geriatric basketball carousel.
Yeah having Melo is so priceless he didn’t play for a year and could hardly find a team.
And then he did and played quite well.
The best signings the Lakers made, I would argue, were the guys who’ve made no All Star teams—Nunn, Monk, and bringing back THT.
The “NYC and LA teams get all the great buyout guys” argument is a little awkward to make HERE, as DeAndre Jordan was just on the Nets this playoffs …. and played almost 0 minutes and was a complete non-factor.
But now that he’s going to LA it’s “priceless” to have him?
Kevin love has stated that he will not except a buyout. He’s owed 31 million this season 28 million after. No way he’s giving that up. Don’t blame him either. He already has a chip.
Love is trying to get paid while staying at home
Technically he is. And he’s quite good at it, too.
He and his agent are posturing. As camp nears, he’ll probably get bought out.
Love’s going to the clippers or a dark horse the Mav’s KP, Luka, and Love could be interesting
I’d bet Love goes to Portland
Love will be backup center on the Cavs & do pretty well for 12’pg.
the cavs are loaded at center and this includes Mobley and Jarret Allen. Along with Markanen and Kabengele.
While there are a handful of minutes available for Love, it’s better to give the young guys the load.
Mobley & Markkanen can be pushed around, and Kabengele isn’t tall and likes the perimeter and may not be very good either. Love can handle himself at center.
Cavs are going to try to win… until they don’t.
K Love would 100% sign with the Warriors if bought out.
Be careful what you wish for Lakers fans
Love isn’t being bought out. And what makes you think he would 100% sign with the Warriors? He and LBJ got along fine. Love is an LA guy. But again, the only buy out he might agree to would be something like a 3 million a year reduction. Why would the CAVs do that?
Of course he is.
Him and Marc can battle it out for most worthless 3rd stringer in the league
I think they will trade Gasol and a 2nd to someone on a salary and roster dump. That would put them back to 13 counting Jordan allowing them to still sign another wing player that has been reported the last couple of weeks.
Marc Gasol for Mychal Mulder? Thoughts?
According to the cba rules, you can’t trade Non-G contract for G contract
If you give Mulder G contract, Lakers say no
Ksmurray lots of chatter that Gasol is not returning. But nothing definitive. Lakers FO would have way more insight than we do. My pure guess is that he is not returning. Not sure how satisfying last year was for him and he is financially set for life. If he wants to continue playing he could play in Spain.
He already stated he would playing. I don’t know if anything changed on thay front, though
What’s the point of trading Gasol? To save on their luxury tax bill? They will still have an open roster spot once they sign Jordan, after which there will be 14 players on the roster not including the two training camp invitees. If they need to open up a roster spot they just cut Gasol and eat his $2.7M salary.
they don’t even pay his small salary if say Toronto signs him for something similar
Hilarious
They must be signing him as a cheerleader. DJ can’t play anymore. Question is, is DJ an upgrade over Dudley in that spot??
If that question ends up mattering then LA is in trouble
They should tell the other 29 teams to not show up this season and let the Nets and lakers play
That is Ed what the NBA wants, a joke.
I agree man. This is total collusion. The Nets trading four second round picks to get off their 12th man, then the Lakers signing him post-buyout as their 4th string center—yup that settles it.
Or—none of these guys are good anymore? The Lakers are basically a social club at this point—I think they might be gearing up for a podcast run more than a playoff run.
Just because you recognize all the names from 2012 doesn’t mean they’re actually still any good.
The defending champion Milwaukee Bucks have entered the chat
Remember they had to go out and make the Jrue trade in order to get to the championship and the Nets didn’t have everyone I was just saying this more as a joke just like the nba is
But you have to worry about these small market teams or cheap owners plus they players are going to keep doing this so it’s just going to be the same thing every yr and the same teams so ya the league needs to find away to step in before most of these teams won’t have fans because it won’t be worth watching or going kinda of like what’s going on in baseball (also because it’s to long) but this is the direction the NBA is heading
Your free to go enjoy another sport Case, sounds like NBA just isn’t your bag
We will be sad, but with the power of prayer I think we will get over losing ya here
Both the Nets & Lakers have players with major injury histories. The Lakers more so. Neither is, or should be, considered a lock. If totally healthy both should be there at the end but that is a huge if.
Upgrade from Dudley I guess.
bad move for Lakers. From what he showed last year he is slow. Howard is much faster. laker must be thinking of having him as a foul machine.
If he doesn’t work out it’s probably not a problem. There will be many more veterans bought out during the season.
@arc89
How in the WORLD is this a bad move for the Lakers? They have DJ as the 4th…big…on the squad? How many teams can say they have 1 current all-star big backed up by 3 former all-star bigs? Most teams have some 7’12 clumsy dude from from an “ia”… Lithuania, Estonia, Crotia, Serbia… wherever. Some guy whos the 12th guy on the roster. All of these guy are being asked for 5-10 minutes. That’s awesome.
It means more AD at the 4 if you’r playing all those bigs. It was looked at that with Westbrick coming in they would need to play AD at the 5 for enough shooting.
So the Lakers are going to use all of these veterans just like the Clippers did the last two seasons? Go 12-13 deep every game giving each of them 5-10 minutes? That makes so much sense.
I don’t see being more than a back up incase of foul trouble or garbage minute player. They are already deep at the tall center position. They should go young and see if they can find a hidden gem.
@KFCF
Monta Ellis is also a former All Star—does that make him better than Malik Monk right now?
Larry Bird is one of the greats of all time—would he be a great 6th man in 2022?
DeAndre, like a lot of LAL’s signings, is more of a name than a player at this point.
What Brooklyn did last year, with no names like Bruce Brown, Mike James, Nick Claxton, etc was so much smarter than what LAL is doing right now.
Get gritty 20-somethings who’ll do dirty work to surround your stars as opposed to ex-prestige player in their mid-30’s who want rings but are washed up and ill-fitted for bit roles.
deandre wants to stick it to the clippers….
NETS sign JJ Reddick in 3, 2 …….. (weeks)
Makes too much sense.
They should just ask matt barnes to come out of retirement also.
I think adding trevelin queen and chaundee brown would have looked better. I like the Jordan move tho.
Everyone says the Lakers are injury prone and then they say the Lakers can’t keep all this depth.
If they’re afraid a big could go down, keeping Gasol, Howard, and DJ would be the smart move.
Their depth can allow for an injury or extra rest.
DeAndre Jordan no longer has the ability to play ANY NBA minutes at all. Don’t believe me? Just ask Brooklyn!
Nash got picky last year.
Not saying he was wrong. If a player does not play, you don’t know if he should have.
He played 21 minutes a game with 47 starts last year.
LA won’t be asking that much from him as the backup to the backup center.
On the vets minimum.
Low risk move, even if the rewards are limited.
DaAndre can screen, roll, and catch lobs now. That’s it. Not even average defender or rim protector.
They have the same skill set with Dwight, but he’s better than DeAndre at this point.
So, little overlap here.
I thought Anthony Davis was going to play more 5 with Westbrook in the fold to help the spacing, but here they go stacking the Center position with Dj, Dwight, and Gasol all on the books.
Lakers still playing NBA2k14
Center position is not what the lakers lacks. Its the PF position!
The NBA is such a joke. Just let the lakers play the nets every night
Boy oh boy, that would be such a fantastic idea, the 2 best teams playing against each other every night!!!
Much better than watching boring teams playing boring hoops just for the sake of diversity, right?
Anyway I don’t care who wins the championship, luckily I don’t follow sports for winners, but for entertainment, hence I love any single game & don’t care if there are super teams or not, means nothing to me!
“The LAARP Lakers”
Odd (potential) ink for the Lakers
Can’t say I understand or like it very much , perhaps they know Gasol isn’t coming back?
Very thin at the 3/4 still….didn’t think these last 2 roster spots would be a strict PG and C
