The Celtics could target Bulls swingman Zach LaVine if Bradley Beal doesn’t become available on the trade market this season, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe opines.
Beal, who has spent all nine of his seasons with the Wizards, is considered unavailable in trade discussions today. NBA teams recognize that this could change, however, especially with the 28-year-old entering the final season of his contract.
Boston is well-positioned to make a trade for the next disgruntled star, but Chicago made several upgrades around LaVine this offseason. Nevertheless, LaVine and the Bulls have yet to agree to an extension, making his situation one to monitor if the team underwhelms.
Here are some other notes from the Eastern Conference:
- Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel examines how bulking up could be beneficial for Heat guard Tyler Herro. The third-year Kentucky product has prioritized getting stronger during the offseason, something that could certainly help him defensively. On the offensive end, Herro has averaged 14.3 points and 2.8 assists in 109 regular-season games to this point, playing 28.8 minutes per contest.
- The Magic‘s deal with guard E’Twaun Moore is a one-year, fully guaranteed contract at the veteran’s minimum, Keith Smith of Spotrac tweets.
- Brian Lewis of the New York Post examines how DeAndre Jordan‘s tenure with the Nets came to an end. The veteran center was traded from Brooklyn to Detroit, then reached a buyout agreement with the Pistons — which allowed him to sign with the Lakers as a free agent. The writing was on the wall for Jordan and Brooklyn, as the Nets had penciled in Blake Griffin at starting center, along with Paul Millsap, LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Claxton off the bench.
They aren’t getting Lavine bulls put to much into him.
Lol settle boy, im a celtics fan for life and even i know lavine wants to go to the Lake show.
Plus lavine makes no sense in boston with tatum and brown already.
Not sure what the Celtics could offer for LaVine anyway, definitely wouldn’t want to give up Brown for him
I think they are lacking to trade for Beal or lavine ! They have a ton of secondary pieces but no one big draw ( no young potential star , no potential for high picks )
Yeah, I don’t see how Beal or Lavine fit with Boston unless they’re thinking of moving Tatum to the 4 and Brown to the 3. I think keeping Tatum at the 3 and Brown at the 2 is the strongest aspect for an otherwise underwhelming Boston team.
NBA writers have spent 3 years writing up nonsense Lavine trade scenarios. The Bulls don’t make all these offseason moves only to turn around and trade Lavine for anything less than a superstar.
Celtics don’t need LaVine. Another ridiculous statement. Bulls have just redone team to please him. He’s not going anywhere soon. Celtics have new players. Need to let it play out. To see if they want to make a move. They have a big trade exception to use also. Celtics are built on depth this yr. They need their young guys to step up. And see how they move forward. Tatum n Jalen need to have big yrs.
Tatum and Jalen can average 30 a game and Boston would still be stuck
Tatum n Jalen said >>Go catch a bonercat.
Dame is the guy they want. Not lavine. Dame puts them over the top in the right trade scenario. You’d have to figure some combo of horford, smart and the exception would be included for salary matching purposes. Plus young players, maybe Robert Williams would be included. There is no doubt that this season was about creating flexibility in terms of depth and money to be able to go get Dame
The exception can only be traded with a draft pick for a salary at or under the exception ! It can’t can’t be used to make up any differences in player salaries
It takes more than depth & flexibility to go get Dame. It would take Tatum for one, and then BOS would be unbalanced like Portland is.
hris Forsberg: Jayson Tatum on offseason bulk: “it’s part of me getting older; my body is just starting to change, as well as putting the work in.” More Tatum: “I know people want to see me go to the basket more. I like the step-back jumper. It’s compromise. I’ll do what the people want.” – via Twitter
For all the geniuses here. Who hate on guys after a yr or two. 19 yr olds don’t get their real body till after 23. Tatum is 23 yrs old. He’s telling you this NOT me.
What about…
Philly: Jaylen Brown and Jabari Parker
Wash: Ben Simmons, Isiah Joe and 3 first (1 boston, 2 philly)
Bost: Bradley Beal
Philly swaps Ben for Jaylen. Defence in Philly remains strong, shooting improves but does leave a little hole in playmaking. Solid starting 5 of Maxey Green Brown Harris and Embiid. Reed and Parker off the bench make a nice forward duo.
Celtics pair besties Tatum and Beal, that’s a top duo in the league. Add to them the defence of Smart and Schroder. Options at centre with Horford, Williams and Kanter. J-Rich and Hernagomez off the bench with Pritchard amd Nesmith also. Very strong side next year.
Washington finally decides to rebuild, Simmons and some first rounders is a solid start.
Still probably a playoff team in the east with Dinwiddie KCP Simmons Bertans and Bryant. Then Holiday Kispert Avdija Kuzma Hachimura Todd and Harrell off the bench. Huge sellers at the deadline can possibly get a first each from Harrell, Bertans and KCP.
This is not realistic at all
Lavine doesn’t move the needle for the Celtics. He’s not what they need
My question is why on earth would ZLV wanna go to BOS?
It just doesn’t make any sense at all!
I thought our Boston Celtics wanted a defensive first identity. And I’ve read where Zach LaVine isn’t a good defender but we know Jaylen Brown is. Doesn’t sound at all sensible to me. Dame either. Let’s see how this season goes, our new Coach, our new President, and how this new roster plays together. Hopefully we will surprise.
