The Hawks have enough young players and future draft picks to facilitate a Ben Simmons trade, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic writes in a mailbag column. He uses the Timberwolves as an example of a team that wants Simmons, but may not have the assets to make an offer that would interest the Sixers. Kirschner suggests Cam Reddish could be appealing in that scenario, with Atlanta getting something of value for helping the deal get done.
The Hawks looked into trading Reddish around draft time, but sources tell Kirschner that no deal was ever imminent. There’s a decent chance Reddish will be eventually be moved, Kirschner adds, but there’s no urgency to deal him right away. Injuries limited Reddish to 26 games last season, but he averaged 12.8 PPG when he returned for the playoff series with the Bucks.
There’s more on the Hawks, all from Kirschner:
- Atlanta didn’t receive any legitimate sign-and-trade offers for John Collins before re-signing him for five years at $125MM. Kirschner suggests that the Hawks may have been bidding against themselves by giving Collins that much, but they’re still happy to keep an important part of their starting lineup.
- The Hawks are talking to Kevin Huerter about an extension, but Kirschner doesn’t expect anything to be resolved until closer to the start of the season. He believes it’s likely that the team will decide to let Huerter become a restricted free agent, just like it did with Collins, and hope to work out a new contract next summer.
- Reddish and De’Andre Hunter will both be eligible for rookie scale extensions next offseason, which will affect the Hawks’ other financial decisions. Kirschner sees Hunter as an ideal backcourt partner for Trae Young, if he can recover from his second meniscus surgery, so he figures to be the Hawks’ priority. Danilo Gallinari only has a $5MM guarantee for 2022/23 in the final year of his contract, so Kirschner expects him to be on the trade market at some point.
Man y’all REALLY trying to speak this Cam trade into existence lol. If Minnesota ain’t giving up Ant then we not givin up Cam
@Sankara
Weed is a hell of a drug.
It would be fun watching Capela and Simmons out there clogging up the lane. But why would the fans in Atlanta want that to happen?
@Greenwood
That plus he thinks Cam is worth KAT.
DLo is a friend of Towns and Simmons
Wolves have to offer Edwards otherwise third team refuses to help Wolves
Hawks get Edwards, Beverley, Maxey, D Green
76ers get Beasley Reddish, Hunter and Gallo
Wolves get Simmons and Korkmax
Draft picks to fill in
As much as I like Hunter & Reddish, giving up Simmons & Maxey is way too much. I’m not even certain I would do it if Maxey was removed from the trade.
They been trying to move Cam since the draft. I wonder why? Obviously they don’t listen to you.
Ben could work in Atlanta. But I think CJ is a much better fit. Sixers shouldn’t give up Ben. Unless they get a real PG in return. It’s why I think Kings can offer best deal. Hawks have talent to move. But they don’t need to rush into any deal. They probably an offer best deal for Beal too. Hawks probably need to wait and see if this team is for real.
Atlanta would be better throwing Bill Simmons in a Ben Simmons trade then Cam Reddish. Nobody is giving anything of value for Cam Reddish.
I don’t want any trash that Shitlanta has including Trash Trae
Mad?
Even if my team didn’t need Trae, Atlanta has plenty I’d want. What they don’t have is that all star everyone is requiring for deals right now.
Who would want to live in Florida. Miami is under water. Orlando is all about Disney. The rest the state is virus and swamp infested. What is so exciting in your retirement communities. I know you have difficulties with young talented men.
Not sure how a deal looks or anything, as for Atalanta a young team on the rise it would be a big risk.
However Trae and Simmons do give Curry and Draymond vibes. Atlanta would need to keep a shooter in Heuter or Reddish but they do have a lot of expandable pieces.
1. Bogdanovic, Reddish, Okungwu and 2 firsts for Simmons?
Hawks then have Guards (Trae, Hueter, Williams, Wright and Cooper), Forwards (Simmons, Gallo, Collins, Hunter, Johnson and Hill) and Centres (Capela and Deing).
Collins and Gallo could spend time at the 5 for spacing, Simmons would add elite defence, I think it would be great for ATL.
The future 5 of Trae Hueter Simmons Hunter Collins sounds pretty exciting
For the Sixers we get two solid wings and one back up big man with potential plus picks. As a Sixers fan I would be that happy with the return.
Reddish can’t shoot. There is like no wing in the League Redddish shoots better than.
Your going to not pick off 1 little irrelevant line. Nice.
He shoots better than Ben Simmons.
When ever you guys propose trades, do you ever think about about why teams would want to make those trades? I don’t understand why you think the Warriors would want to give up Curry and Draymond for Simmons. The Warriors won 3 Championship with Curry and Draymond. Philly can’t make the Eastern Conference Finals with Simmons. Why do you believe the Warriors would be better with Simmons?
How does that have anything to do with my proposed trade. It has nothing to do with the warriors
Howie goes to great lengths for the well-being of his team.
Sixers would get laughed at like every other trade proposal that has come out. You’re delusional if the Sixers are getting anything close to this.
Ben needs to sit and pay some hefty change for his insolence, then get on the court and pump up his trade value, otherwise he isn’t going anywhere.
My deal is this
Minny gets ben Simmons
Atlanta gets curry, 2023, and 2025 first rounder
Philly gets dejounte murray, malik beasley, DeAndre hunter and filler from spurs
San Antonio’s gets thybulle, McDaniels
Who says no
76ers out
Simmons, Curry, Thybulle
76ers in
Murray, Beasley, Hunter
The deal is far from 76ers asking price $3
Your deal
76ers in
$1
76ers out
$2
Philly says no. You want us to give up Simmons Curry Thybulle and picks for Murray, Beasley, Hunter and a filler.
Murray is a very poor mans Simmons, Beasley is just an expensive and erratic version on Curry, Hunter is an alright young forward but Thybulle gives you elite defence. Plus you want us to give up picks. You tripping
I’d tweak it more but I stress the hawks are not looking at ben as he and capela would clog things up for trae. Shlenk like dribble pass shoot guys. I think collins would be in any Simmons deal once they decide to move him at the trade deadline.
Bruh y’all are smoking. Hunter>>>>>Simmons, Collins>>>>>Simmons. The Hawks aren’t trading players that are as good as if not better than Simmons for Simmons. Hunter is going into his third year, is still cheap, plays elite defense, and SHOOTS. Collins lacks on defense in comparison but he was the better player in Hawks vs 76ers series and it wasn’t close. Y’all arguing over mythical sh*z cause that ain’t happening.
How many all star teams, all nba teams, and all nba defense teams have Collins and Hunter made?
Cam would be welcomed being a semi local kid from Norristown, PA
What if Ben Simmons is shooting 2000 free throws and 2000 jumpers a day with the chip on his shoulders he must have? He could surprise everyone. I hope not as I’m a Celtics fan.
Cool. Still misses 1,789!
He probably is, so that he can shoot on his next team. Dude is a fraud.
He’s had 5 years to do that. If he hasn’t done that by now, I don’t bet on him doing it with another team. He’s got his big contract, so he’s content.
I wouldn’t trade for Simmons, he hasn’t shown a willingness to improve his shooting. I like our young guys!
