The Warriors are one of the most interesting teams to monitor entering the new season. After reigning scoring-champion and two-time MVP Stephen Curry proved yet again the incredible impact he has when healthy, the team has high expectations.
The Warriors did not pull the trigger on any major trades, instead opting to keep their draft picks and focus on internal development, along with the shrewd signings of veterans Andre Iguodala, Otto Porter Jr., and Nemanja Bjelica to minimum contracts. Zach Harper of The Athletic liked Golden State’s moves overall, grading the offseason a B-plus and ranking the team as a playoff hopeful.
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- In the same piece, Harper specifically mentions the wing and forward depth as noteworthy roster improvements over last season’s group. He also states that even if Klay Thompson is only able to find his old shooting form and nothing else, that would certainly help improve the team’s 20th-ranked offense.
- While the Warriors currently only have 13 players on guaranteed contracts (and one two-way spot open), Damion Lee is considered likely to make the roster, leaving the 15th spot up for grabs. Anthony Slater of The Athletic explores the team’s options for the last spot, stating that Gary Payton II is a slight favorite due to his athleticism and defensive intensity.
- Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area posits that the team would be wise to lure Marc Gasol back to the NBA at some point during the season, if possible. Poole notes that the Warriors lack depth at center, and even if Gasol is only asked to play 15-18 MPG in certain matchups, his passing and basketball IQ would be very valuable to the offense.
- In case you missed it, the Warriors are evaluating their depth at backup point guard, as they have worked out (or will work out) veteran NBA point guards Ryan Arcidiacono, Darren Collison, and Isaiah Thomas.
Rank these legends on how great they were/are as Warriors, Chris Mullin, Draymond Green, Rick Barry, Tim Hardaway, Kevin Durant…
Rick Barry and KD were both NBA Finals MVP’s. They should be 1/2.
Barry, Green, Durant, Hardaway, Mullin. Of course, Chamberlain would easily be #1. Thurmond you could probably put in at #2.
Durant after Green? Look I love Draymond but ain’t no way he’s over KD
Green set the tone and style of play that won 3 Championship. He is the reason Durant signed with the Warriors.
KD, Mullin, Green, Hardaway & Barry…
Who wrote and posted the same thing. When Gasol was let go by Lakers. Gee I wonder who it was ?? Fact is his game does fit their team offense. And they do need big depth. Plus mentoring Wiseman only makes sense to me. He could come after Euro season is over.
I know it’s just a thought, but if Rockets bought out Wall’s contract and made him available, I wonder if Warriors would take him for off the bench? He’s not Gasol by any means, but Wall can help fill the void Gasol leaves behind. When healthy, Wall could be a nice option behind Curry. Wall can give options to work with for the Warriors. If Curry goes down, having a guy like Wall around, can keep the Clippers in the top 4 until Curry returns. I’ll probably get some jabs for this thought, but I think Wall can regain his value in Warriors. And I think Warriors could benefit from his value and get them back to the Ship. I am a Rockets fan here and it kills me to think of something that could potentially help the Warriors. If I had to choose between Thomas or Wall, Wall would have the upper leg. I seen Wall play briefly last year, I think he has enough in the tank to give Warriors that boost to beat the Bucks.
Money doesn’t work. Unless he is a buyout and at that point why wouldn’t he just go to an actual contender.
We just announced (behind a paywall) another veteran point guard who is working out with GSW and it’s not IT, Collison or Arcidiacono. It’ll post to our Twitter @LetsGoWarriors by Sat 9/18 at 8am PDT.
IT is old news, unless you have a new name? That would be great news.
Can’t wait to hear the new name, but why are you waiting? Why not tell us here? Hoping for clicks on your Twitter? Okay I get it everything is a business.
First off my comment said it was not IT. Secondly, last time I left a link on here, the site did not approve it (understandable). Third, we don’t care about Twitter, it was just an easy way to get you to the link by displaying our handle. Twitter sucks; there’s far too much negativity and misinformation on there, which is actually only a reflection of society (sports is a reflection of society in the famous words of Harry Edwards, just take a look at politics and you’ll see). Finally, it’s going to remain behind our paywall because it’s exclusive information. So anyways, it is what it is.
Can I repeat what I said at the end?
“Okay I get it.. everything’s a business.”
No problem.
Yep I read your first post so fast I missed the IT and just saw Collison and Ryan Arcidiacono. A mistake on my end. It is what it is.
