James Wiseman‘s inability to participate fully in training camp will hurt the Warriors more than any games he might miss at the start of the season, Anthony Slater of The Athletic opines. Wiseman’s development is crucial to making the team relevant again, due to his physical gifts that can add an explosive dimension it currently lacks on the interior. Wiseman is expected to participate in individual shooting and other individual on-court activities during camp. His return to full practices will be determined after October 15, when he’s expected to begin full jumping on the surgically repaired knee.
We have more on the Warriors:
- The team has invested heavily this offseason in player development, as Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area details. The additions of former Nets coach Kenny Atkinson along with Dejan Milojević and Jama Mahlalela were made due their reputations for developing young talent. All three have been on the job since June, Poole adds.
- Owner Joe Lacob has been fined $50K for comments regarding Ben Simmons, the NBA announced today (via Twitter). The league deemed the comments as a violation of its anti-tampering rules. Lacob said it’s unlikely the team will trade for disgruntled Sixers star.
- Lacob believes the franchise is on track for another championship, according to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle. “Hopefully, this year, we’ll compete for a championship,” he said. “I think we should. Over the next 4-5 years, I think we should continue that and have a second great decade in a row.”
On December 2018, Lakers LeBron invited Pelicans Anthony Davis for dinner was tampering?
LeBron doesn’t own the Lakers.
@Sillovan
How can you keep NBA players from fraternizing with each other?
If they were really serious about club executives tampering they would increase the fine by 100 fold. 50,000 is chump money to these owners.
I think “tampering” is so arbitrary though. It’s tough to charge someone 500 million for something so subjective lol. I understand it’s hyperbole but even 150 mil would be hard to justify. I agree it should be raised or changed somehow.
A new standard would not be less arbitrary. Let’s call this a slap in the wrist that says, *don’t go there*.
So what should the league do then?
I doubt the system is broken. Maybe with Ballmer a few years ago, with under-the-table money, but the league looked into that.
I hope nobody is worried about a multimillionaire owner facing a punishment or restriction.
Next year everybody is going to be saying how the cavs messed up picking a big man instead of Suggs or another playmaker/scorer watch!
$50k is B.S. Lacob made it clear they didn’t want a certain player and didn’t even say his name. Only way this is tampering is now other suitors know the Warriors aren’t interested.
Delusional to think the warriors are still a top team. Curry is only getting older, draymond isn’t what he once was, klay is barely coming back, and they no longer have Durant to fall back on. They had an amazing run that is one of the greatest but their window is closed
Since when did a fictional cartoon character become an expert on basketball. The Warriors won without Durant. In fact, they beat Durant. You have absolutely no idea how Klay will be in his return. He could be much better. Curry had the best year of his career last year. Draymond is still Draymond.
Yea klay will be better after coming back from major surgery? Maybe you should think before posting
Adrian Peterson tore his ACL & MCL. Next season, he nearly broke the single season rushing record in the NFL. You don’t know how he will come back. It is foolish to say you are an expert on injury recovery.
So you’re comparing one of the best running backs of our generation to a basketball player. I never said he won’t recover but to say the odds are better he’ll come back much better is laughable. Comparing apples and oranges
Anddd I don’t think klay Thompson was ever considered the top player of his position. AP was a bad comparable
Maybe not the top player of his position, but for a couple years I would’ve rated Klay as #2 maybe #1 as he played better D than Harden.
I agree though on Klay, I’m not a Warriors fan but I am a Klay Thompson fan hoping for the best but it is hard to say since he is coming off 2 major season ending injuries. His shot should still there buts it’s going to harder to get open and play defense as his lateral movement will be more limited.
Harden >>>>>>> klay and it’s not even close
A top team yes, a champion team will see. To be a championship team they will probably have to add someone mid season, they still do have their mid level exception. The Warriors just finished eight games out of being third behind the Suns. I think Klay even at 90% can almost account for 8+ games. Of the 33 games they lost half were by five points or less. This is a much better team. Last year they wasted the whole first half of the season with the Wiseman experiment. It wasn’t till the mid point where they turned Curry loose and they started winning at a better clip. Yes Curry is older and they will have to watch out for injuries but if Curry can play at that intensity from the beginning I think they can finish second or third in the West.
Thanks Randy will remind you everyday at the end of the season when GSW are one of the top teams. Whatever team you cheer for will not have a better record than GSW.
Where did they finish last year? Right getting bounced in the playin. Oh but they are top team because you say so
Half the team was injured.
Kinda like how Chris Paul was injured for game 7. See it works both ways
half the team was out for that playoff game against a healthy Laker team and Lakers barely won. You just showed how little NBA knowledge you have. I see you don’t have the guts to name your favorite team. That is because they are worse.
Man for goodness sake pay attention arc89… the cartoon dude is a HOU fan, wisen up!!!
Not only are they a top team, they are a top team with a non-basketball expert, just a random rich guy, doing whatever he wants at the top with no one in his way!
When is the last time they were a top team. 2019? That’s 2 years ago and the years are only going to keep adding on. Sure they’ll make the playoffs as a 5-8 seed but what then? Probably knocked out in the first round
Haha I was wrong. They sucked in 2019 15-50. So 2018-19 was the last time they were relevant. 3 years ago… keep dreaming warriors
I think you need to stop smoking the Tegrity.
Truth hurts huh howie. It’s okay you can be disappointed this season to. Tegrity farms is having a Christmas special in case you haven’t heard tell all your friends :)
Oh Wiseman. I’m really rooting for him to succeed, I like him as a player. Not a GS fan.
What’s Lacob’s tax bill this year? I’m sure that 50k will stop him from sayin whatever he wants lol.
I been saying all off season they need another big center. Looney and Wiseman have not shown they will stay healthy all year long.
I absolutely hate that Lacobs make NBA roster decisions when none of them are basketball experts or have sort of a semblance of background to be able to run an NBA team and make the player personnel choices. Fired Jerry West to replace with his son? NBA should force GSW to trade for Simmons so they can be as good as they can be while Steph is here. Stop letting moron owners think they are more important than they are, and ban them from player personnel choices. They deserve no rights, they’re just rich egomaniacs (usually via nefarious means).
That’s insane man. The guy put down however many billions (millions?) for an NBA team and he’s not allowed to determine who works there? Give your head a shake. It may not be in his best interests to interfere but he has every right on the planet to make the final decision absolutely 100%.
Yes, simply having money literally never equals expertise. What are you smoking? If he wants to run everything then he should fire Myers and name himself grand supreme overlord of the franchise. He has no right to do anything, its his priveledge to own an NBA team, and theres literally 100s of billionaires out there who would buy any NBA team in a second who would know better to defer to experts when it comes to player analysis.
Lacob literally knows no more or less than you or I. Why would you do that? Jerry West is a genius, if he’s here GSW is literally winning every single season from 2015 on but instead he gets replaced by Lacob’s useless son??? GTFO.
Marty you finally admit you know nothing. Took you long enough
What are you smoking Marty? Lacob’s son scouted 1 player, and you blow it up into say he is making all decisions. Do you really believe that West was perfect in all of his decisions? It they followed you; they wouldn’t win 10 games.
He got it from tegrity farms folks
@Marty again I didn’t say he has expertise but HE OWNS THE TEAM. Name a business where if the owner doesn’t like something he can’t change it? I agree that he probably isn’t the right guy to call the shots. But oh yes my friend he has every right to do just that. And I bet he really doesn’t care what ol Marty McRae on HoopsRumors thinks about that. You might not like it but that’s life my friend. The rich guy who owns the company(team), no matter how delusional he may be, at the end of the day he makes the decisions. You’d best start accepting that or it’s gonna be tough to keep a job.
Wiseman is two or three years away from being a serviceable big man in the NBA, Thompson coming off a two year layoff and two devastating leg injuries is a HUGE question mark, two rookies add up to nothing proven. So why is this team considered a contender.
I think it’s because they’re pretty deep this time on the bench. Two rookies plus the two free agent guys that’s 4 reserves that will probably be pretty good. Then we are also Hoping (with a capital H LOL) that wisemann and Klay Thompson round into form for the second half of the Season.
It could be slow in the beginning but I think the Warriors will be very good by the end of the year. Fingers crossed of course, who knows anything, but I’m a Warriors fan and I think they’re looking pretty good.
Probably because there was no subtractions from last years bubble team. They add back in Thompson, Iggy, Zuminga, Moody, and Poter jr. Only subtraction was often injured Oubre.
He basically got fined cause he said simmons sucks. Now philly and gsw have paid for his suckness lol
