5:52pm: The Bucks have officially signed Allen to his extension, per NBA.com’s transactions log. The deal’s overall base value is lower than $20MM, according to Jim Owczarksi of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, who reports that it can be worth up to $19.5MM if certain team and player incentives are met.
4:16pm: The Bucks have reached an agreement on a two-year, $20MM rookie scale contract extension with wing Grayson Allen, agent Mitch Nathan of CAA tells Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link).
Allen, who is entering his fourth NBA season, had the best year of his career for the Grizzlies in 2020/21, starting 38 of 50 games and averaging 10.6 PPG, 3.2 RPG and 2.2 APG. The former Duke star has knocked down 39.5% of his 3-point attempts over the last two years while steadily increasing his volume.
The Bucks acquired Allen from Memphis over the summer in exchange for Sam Merrill and a pair of future second-round picks. He’ll play a rotation role on the wing in Milwaukee this season and would have been eligible for restricted free agency in 2022 if he hadn’t worked out a deal with the team today.
Allen’s two-year contract will give the Bucks some insurance in the event that they can’t complete a new contract with Donte DiVincenzo, who is also on track for potential restricted free agency next summer if he doesn’t sign an extension today. Allen’s new deal will pay him approximately the equivalent of the full mid-level exception.
Allen will earn just over $4MM this season before his extension goes into effect in 2022/23.
You gotta be trippin’
Haha I got a kick out of that one!
fell right into it.
Stop with all the ball busting.
At least it’s only 2 years….
Good move by MIL!
Bleh
What about Dante DVC? He’s improved every year and will be a key element this year. I would feel uneasy if I were him since they traded him for Bogdan and now they have signed Allen before him. If he balls out, he has got my respect more so then, say, a player who quits and whines and holds out at the slightest whiff of trade rumors.
Wonder if the injury has something to do with it.
Or he a bit tweaked yet about nearly being traded last year and would rather have a fresh start next year.
Donte doesn’t have the clout to demand a trade, and he and his agent probably realize he’s worth more than he’s been able to show with the Bucks due to the role he’s needed to play. It make sense why both sides couldn’t come to an agreement, particularly considering his injury history.
Bold move/strategy by Horst.
It’s like this is the time of year to sign white shooters, including last year.
Bucks now have Donte, Grayson, and PatC to compet at 2G. All are white and play heafds-up & erect, although Donte is not sure himself how he plays. Meanwhile stalwart Holiday leans over and appears to want to sneak by quickly, until he gets to the rim and makes a nice cornering move. Good to have both; the big trade for Holiday looks better with that balance.
Middleton & Giannis are also partly listed as guards, oh no. IDK Leque or the lessofafreak Greek.
Tough to compare when Donte is far ahead of Allen in defense, rebounds and on/off. On the other hand, Allen has been improving, and offers more on-court presense, and the versatile Middleton can make up for any differences.
It will be tough to fit Donte financially, esp if Grayson is worth 2/$20.

For whatever reason this chart does not include on/off, a Donte strength, and Allen reached a breakeven point. Allen likes to make a commotion, so that took learning to make efficient. Donte always needs to rev up… very different players really.
“lessofafreak”— There is another greek guy listed, with more of a greek-type name than Ante’po.
To make random commotions and get away with it takes experience… the Bucks will benefit from his PT on the Grizzlys. Grayson was not said to be a sure thing to be kept there though.
Idk rather to keep Portis or Allen on the same practice squads or different ones. Maybe have then at different gyms till the season starts that way they don’t fight until the season starts and they can take it out on other teams.
Come playoff time Mike Scott is going to be waiting for that first hard foul Embiid and is going to get jumped.
Good salary for a guy with a 12.8 PER last season. But he might still
Improve.
