Bulls guard Zach LaVine says that playing with a ligament tear in his left thumb is difficult but he’ll make it work, K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago writes.
“It will be like this for a little bit,” LaVine said. “Knock on wood that nothing happens in the game to where it re-aggravates it. But it has to play its course. They were telling me it’s almost like a Grade 2 ankle sprain but in my thumb. So it’s going to take some time.”
LaVine has shot 20-for-51 from the field over the last three games after exceeding 30 points in his first two outings this season.
We have more from the Central Division:
- Bulls forward Patrick Williams is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after tearing ligaments in his left wrist. In response, the Bulls will likely go with a smaller lineup, Johnson writes in a separate piece. Individually, Williams loses a year of growth and the ability to establish himself as a two-way force. “When you lose a guy like that who can physically guard a lot of different positions and who has the strength and size to deal with post-up players, it definitely hurts,” coach Billy Donovan said.
- The Pistons are still seeking their first win and reserve guard Frank Jackson has struggled with his shooting this season, but he’s holding onto his rotation spot, James Edwards III of The Athletic notes. Jackson was waived by the Thunder last December and Detroit took a flyer on him. He was re-signed to a two-year, $6.2MM deal this summer with a team option. “What got my attention as much as his shooting last year was his defense,” coach Dwane Casey said. “He pursues, he competes defensively. Very athletic with speed and quickness. Then you add shooting on top of that.”
- Pacers lottery pick Chris Duarte heard a lot from scouts and executives about his age at the pre-draft camp. The 24-year-old Duarte put a different twist on that concern, Steve Aschburner of NBA.com writes. Duarte responded, “If you want to win games, get me. If you want to win in four years, go ahead and draft a 19-year-old kid. Then you can develop him and make him a superstar in three, four or five years. But you don’t know if he’s going to be a superstar — you don’t know, who knows? So you know what you’re getting now.” Duarte is averaging 18.7 PPG and 4.5 RPG through six games.
Good for Duarte. He’s definitely one of my favorites from the draft. His story and come up is great, i’m rooting for him.
Of course Duarte is that good, having an incredible season, but that was for sure, dude is from POP, Dominicana!!!

He’s the most NBA ready, but he hasn’t exactly been good. 17 shots a game to score 18.7 pts.
With a shooting line of 42/40/91 that’s pretty darn impressive for a rookie.
Duarte, Dinwiddie, McCollum, LaVine and KAT are the only players in the league scoring 18 points per game or more shooting 40-40-90.
So your comment “Hasn’t exactly been good” is just stupid …
Too true, too true Simmons>Russ… that shooting line is pretty impressive!
42.2% would have ranked 108th of 124 in the league for field goal percentage among qualified players last year. His 52% true shooting would have ranked 169th of 189. 40/40/90 means nothing, especially when you shoot 1.8 free throws per game.
Means nothing how come Curry Lillard Doncic Jokic Harden KD LeBron Butler Tatum PG13 AD etc etc all don’t average 40/40/90.
It’s just a true sign that he’s been efficient. Not saying he should be an all star but to say he hasn’t been good is a lie.
He’s the closest thing to a lock for all rookie first team along with Barnes and Mobley right now.
There’s a lot of Geniuses here. Who like to DOG 19 yr olds. Who think 22 yr olds are busts. Duarte is 24 yrs old. Came in with a mans body and game. So he can compete and learn. Once upon a time only college seniors came into NBA. That’s 22 yrs old Rookies. And it took some 2-3 yrs to find their NBA game. Every team has a responsibility to their franchise to develop their picks. ESPECIALLY their #1 picks, high picks. It’s why you have to wonder how a guy like Ben STILL can’t shoot. And his FTs have gotten WORSE. Every drafted player should be BETTER after 3-4 yrs. EVERY SINGLE ONE ……. Do your jobs
When the Pacers drafted Duarte, I said this:
“I’m still catching up on the draft and the prospects, but the little bit I’ve seen of Duarte so far, a few names come to mind in similarities…
Tyler Herro, Mike Miller, Rip Hamilton, Duncan Robinson, Klay Thompson
…I’d also say aaron afflalo should probably be in there on that list. If he was younger, he would have probably been talked about a lot more. Also, you see why the Knicks wanted him so badly b/c he would have been a perfect fit for what they needed last season”
He has been pretty much what he seemed he would be, and certain guys being out also gives him a bit more early opportunity. I am surprised he didnt go higher
