OCTOBER 13: Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle downplayed the severity of Brogdon’s injury, referring to it as a “day-to-day” issue and confirming that the guard participated in non-contact work on Wednesday (Twitter link via Agness).
OCTOBER 12: Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon has sustained a Grade 1 left acromioclavicular joint sprain, per Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files (via Twitter).
This is a shoulder separation, typically low-grade enough to not require surgical intervention, and can take a few weeks to fully heal, though the Pacers haven’t confirmed a recovery timeline for Brogdon. Agness says the veteran is a scratch for tonight’s preseason contest against the Grizzlies. The Pacers are set to play their first game of the 2021/22 regular season against the Hornets on October 20.
Brogdon’s name has been a popular one on the trade market this summer, as the Sixers have apparently had conversations with Indiana about including him and/or promising swingman Caris LeVert in a package for Philadelphia’s disgruntled All-Defensive First Teamer Ben Simmons.
Though Brogdon has yet to be named to an All-Star team, he is an above-average starter with two-way ability at one of the most valuable positions in the NBA on a reasonable contract, which makes him a key attribute in a lot of trade chatter. The 28-year-old has one year and $21.7MM left on his current deal. In 56 games last season, Brogdon averaged 21.2 PPG, 5.9 APG and 5.3 RPG, while logging a stellar shooting line of .453/.388/.864.
Is grade 1 the most severe or the least I never remember. Sometimes a 1 is bad like first degree burns and sometimes it’s not as bad like a 1.0 earthquake or something.
First degree sprains and burns are the same, it’s the least severe for both.
Yeah maybe you’re thinking murders
Lmao
Probably Lmaooo
Well…I liked a good amount of what they did in the offseason, but now they have several injuries to key pieces. That’s what made me put them a lot lower than I expected in my pre training camp look at the league, and this obviously doesnt help. Hopefully they dont miss him for too long, and not sure what Levert and TJ Warren’s situations are, but losing Sumner and these guys is extremely tough on them, and then they still have to figure out their multi big lineup…
Simmons to the Pacers for a two injured role players and picks according to woj.
You can count on Brogdon being injured every year so trading for him is a very risky proposition.
What does Indiana’s ideal roster look like if they are open to dealing Warren, Turner, Brogdon, and LeVert? Build around Sabonis and trade everyone else?
This is his biggest problem. Can never stay healthy
It’s too bad Milwaukee didn’t keep him. They’ll never win a title without him. Or so people on here kept saying…
Did people really say that? Their title hopes went down when he left. But his contract was kind of an overpay, albeit inevitable. They had a year to figure it out and made a savvy move for Jrue tho. I think most would say Jrue edges out Brogdon a bit.
No one will win a title with him tho if he can’t stay in the court.
There was a handful of people who said it. I liked Brogdon, but said then his inability to stay healthy offset his ability on the court. The deal he got was an overpay too IMO, for that reason.
I believe he wasn’t keen on staying in Milwaukee either, but why I don’t know. If true, it made even more sense to make that sign and trade.
Brogdon was unhappy in Milwaukee because he had to give up the PG spot to a hardhead, Bledsoe. Also the FO got in a pinch and kept Lopez instead.
Just relieved he injured the AC and not the ACL. The AC probably just holds his shoulders & head up & back as he struts around campus, and it just wore out from use.

He said he didn’t like MIL as it was a racist city as a matter of fact!
i thought that was sterling brown.
Everyone knows MIL is a racist city… so probably more than one dude said that, right?
Sterling Brown had a run-in with the cops. I don’t recall the details anymore, if I ever was fully aware.
I don’t recall specifics regarding Brogdon’s beef either. Not saying nothing happened, just don’t remember any public comments about it.
But he went to Indiana… the most repub state in the midwest… not really a solution if there was a problem in that area.
I suspect he wants to avoid the perception he did not want to lose PT to Bledsoe, who the FO had just given a big contract to. They also had Middleton, and considered Brogdon an injury magnet.
Gotdamn, the PACERS are off to an awful start with all these injuries.
