OCTOBER 13: The Warriors have waived Weatherspoon, according to the team.
OCTOBER 11: The Warriors have signed free agent shooting guard Quinndary Weatherspoon, the team announced today in a press release. Weatherspoon claims the 20-man roster spot previously occupied by Langston Galloway, who was cut over the weekend.
Weatherspoon was selected by San Antonio with the 49th overall pick in the 2019 draft and spent his first two professional seasons on a two-way deal with the Spurs. He appeared in just 31 total NBA games during that time, averaging 1.9 PPG in 6.4 MPG.
The 25-year-old saw more action at the G League level, recording 14.9 PPG and 5.1 APG on .455/.333/.795 shooting in 37 games (29.1 MPG) for the Austin Spurs. However, San Antonio opted not to give him a qualifying offer this summer, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Terms of Weatherspoon’s contract with the Warriors aren’t known, but it’s safe to assume it’s a non-guaranteed camp deal, likely with Exhibit 10 language. Weatherspoon almost certainly won’t make the 15-man regular season roster, but if he’s willing to play for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBAGL, Golden State could make Weatherspoon an affiliate player and give him a bonus worth up to $50K.
I’m gonna name my kid Quindary Weatherspoon
Warriors could use another Big Man / Rim Protector, especially with James Wiseman likely not being ready for Opening night.
Kevon Looney has his own Health issues n the past too. They are awfully thin at the Center position.
At least use the other 2-Way Contract on a development Center prospect.
Since your so infatuated with everything Warriors, Mr. Rocket Man; Steve Kerr has stated multiple times there are many players capable of playing center on the team. They’re obviously not prioritizing a 7 foot big bit with the roster
I meeeaaan, last year they opened with Chriss, Loon and Wiseman, w/Dray, Paschall, and JTA seeing time at the 5.
This year they’ll still open with Loon, Wiseman and 6’10/235 Bjelicia. They still have Dray and JTA, while Jordan Bell(6’8/218) is only in camp as a body due to Wiseman injury keeping him until Oct. 15. Kuminga has renowned athleticism to go with good size, yet he’s very young and isn’t a great shooter.
Kerr has already said Kuminga might see time at the 5 to get him on the court in situations that favor his skillset. With Santa Cruz coaches saying he’s 6’8+/230+ after summer league, I think they have more depth at the 5 this year than they did last year.
Kuminga is fast, big, has above average ball skills for a guy at the 5, can use athletic to block shots, get rebounds, set screens and finish around the rim while he learns the feel of the game, without having to play with a busy paint in lineups with Loon/Wiseman/Dray, instead he could be the 5 with Bjelicia at the 4, and the dubs don’t lose anything when it comes to size, especially if 3 of Steph/Klay/Porter/Wiggins is sharing the court. He could even be the 5 in a group like that. Just a
Steph/Klay/Wigs/Porter/Kuminga lineup and they’d have the speed+shooting to score on teams but with 3 guys 6’7+, and one 6’6 & one 6’3 guy.
A lot better than their lineups last year, that were basically 5 guys under 6’6.
They’re talking about guys for their 15th spot, guys that WOULD HAVE been on the team and playing 20+ if it was last year’s team. Guys like Mulder or GP2, they were a part of the 8-man rotation at the end of last year, whereas now— if they make the team—they’d be lucky to get 5 minutes… if anything at all.
Bjelica is a PF. Just because he is 6-10, 234 doesn’t mean he can play center. It will be difficult for Kuminga to play center at 6-7, 225. Not because of his height, but because he lacks the bulk and strength to play there. Shorter guys like Draymond and PJ Tucker and play the 5 because they have the strength and build to do so. Same goes for JTA, he’s barely big enough to play PF. Golden State has 3 true centers: Wiseman, Looney, and Green. That’s it.
The test will come when they play the Nuggets or Jazz. can Looney stay out of foul trouble and can Wiseman bulk up enough. Lakers have a bunch of tall players but no real shooters so they hog up the middle.
Agreed, its all about Playoff matchups. This is my concern with the current Roster.
In the regular season, its easier to throw smaller players into the Center spot, but come Playoffs time? The other Playoffs teams have taller and better Frontcourt players. We’ll be playing at a deficit.
Do we really expect JTA, Kuminga, etc., to be able to guard Jokic, Gobert, Ayton, etc.? Say we reach the Finals, are we prepared to match up with the Bucks 6-11 Giannis and 7-1 Brook Lopez?
We just saw last May how Looney had no impact in our 2 Play-In games. Valanciunas essentially played him off the court.
Alot of Warriors fans seem to want to Win in the regular season and not prepare for a deep Playoff run, which requires more height and depth at the Center spot.
Right now, we have only one 7 Footer on the Roster, which is alot to put on James Wiseman’s shoulders.
Bjelica and Kuminga are not centers, and don’t curse them because they’re not.
Is he Irish?
