Bulls forward Patrick Williams is back with the team after having surgery on his left wrist last Sunday, writes Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times. It will be several months before doctors can determine whether Williams is able to return for the end of the season or the playoffs, and he wants to stay as involved as possible. That means joining his teammates for an upcoming road trip if the medical staff approves.
“You’d like him around the team, but he’s going to have some difficulties sleeping, just because he has to pretty much keep that hand in a position where he really does no movement until he gets the cast off,” coach Billy Donovan explained. “That’s what the medical staff will talk about. We’ll have discussions on what is in his best interest there. It’s such a detailed surgery he went through, you don’t want to get into anything that disrupts what’s been done. They may recommend against the travel.’’
Donovan adds that he hasn’t talked to executive VP of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas about acquiring a possible replacement for Williams. With the season only a couple of weeks old, their conversations have focused on the current personnel.
“We haven’t talked about any of that stuff,’’ Donovan said. “Eight games in, these guys need time to play with each other. I think we’re both excited about the team. We haven’t talked about anything, ‘Hey, going forward, let’s add this.’ None of that. It’s been more about our team and where we can get better.’’
There’s more from Chicago:
- Nikola Vucevic‘s low-post opportunities have decreased after the Bulls added more perimeter scoring in the offseason, but he’s not concerned about his new role, Cowley adds in the same piece. The coaching staff prefers to have him initiating the offense from the top of the arc or operating out of the pick and roll. “Billy does want the ball to go through me a lot on the high post and play through that, especially if we don’t get much out of our initial action,’’ Vucevic said. ‘‘He wants me to flash to the ball and get actions out of that. It’s pretty similar . . . to something I’ve done for years to try to be more of a facilitator.’’
- Ayo Dosunmu has become a rare second-round pick who is able to contribute right away, Cowley adds in a separate story. Taken 38th in this year’s draft, Dosunmu has earned a spot in the rotation and is averaging 12.8 minutes per night through his first eight games.
- Coby White, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, was able to take part in light-contact shooting drills at Friday’s practice, per Paul Sullivan of The Chicago Tribune. However, there’s still not a set timetable for him to return, with Donovan saying, “I don’t know how close he is.”
Ayo the rookie second round pick combo guard is better than Coby White the combo guard taken 7th in 2019.
Should trade White for Jalen Smith and 2 second round picks. Smith although not very good, is younger, has potential, is cheaper and covers a position they need help in at PF.
No. Just no.
This is absolutely brutal trade offer. This doesn’t move the needle for a team that’s desperate to win now. They need size and shooting. White, as much as he has his falterings, does have trade value.
Trade coby white for Chris Boucher and whatever picks need to go where ever, Boucher escapes Nick nurse tryin to ruin his career and coby goes to create more guard depth on a rebuilding team with 9 Chris bouchers
White sucks tho and I’d take a chance on Smith. Both players suck, the bulls don’t need backcourt players they need PF’s.
Really isn’t much of a market for White
Coby doesn’t suck, he was being forced to be a play maker when his skill is more of a shooter. Coby is a solid shooter Jalen is literally a total bust with no NBA future Suns didn’t even pick up his 3rd year, he hardly ever plays and when he does he can’t shoot move the ball or defend. Atleast Coby has a legitimate skill, he isn’t great, but he is atleast an NBA role player at the minimum.
Ayo has been great, Coby for Jalen is just silly though. Coby will be a great scoring punch off the bench here and is a soil 3 pt shooter which is one of the things we need most right now.
I’m getting a bit worried on Vu’s starts in the game. He seems disinterested this year. Maybe it’s because he’s the 3rd option on most nights? He’s sticking around the 3 point line too much as well. He was never a strong defender but his offensive skill set is what has kept him in the league for so long. They need him to step up and play like an all star. Front office won’t trade him because they’ll be admitting that trading for him was a BIG mistake, but he needs to play better simply put. Depth is already an issue, and if you have your 3rd best player not playing up to his ability, it hurts rest of the rotation and depth on this team.
Vuc is the weakest link on the team right now. He has literally lost us a game or two with his terrible 1 of 15 type shooting and dude keeps missing layups and 3-5 foot floaters. I don’t know what to do with him because he was never as good a shooter as just the past couple years made it look, but he has always been okay and we need his size. I’m just so happy to see how wrong everyone was about DeMar DeRozan, he has been an All NBA talent for us so far.
Ayo was a great pick. I’m surprised he didn’t go in 1st rd. He’s a combo guard but can definitely play the Point. Plus he plays D. I definitely try and move White as soon as he plays and ups his value. And a 4 is what I’d be looking for (Bagley).
Bagley is a great call aswell but the Kings won’t have any interest in another guard.
Maybe a three team deal
I see some Marcus smart with Ayo. He’s a dog on the court and great IQ. I would love MBIII l. I’ve been clamoring for him since last December but it would be a 3 team deal.
MBIII – Bulls
White – Pelicans
Kings – NAW
Yuck no way we don’t need Smart and Ayo is a really nice long term piece for a team that needs is young future players as much as our All Stars.
Richaun holmes for blazer 1st round
I like Richaun on this Bulls team, not sure about Bagley. They need more upfront beef though.
I dont want bagley.lazy defender.he is bust just like culver
