Veteran forward Rudy Gay, who signed a three-year contract with the Jazz in the offseason, is set to make his debut with the team. Utah announced today (via Twitter) that Gay will be available for Thursday’s contest vs. the Raptors.
Gay, 35, received a deal worth the full taxpayer mid-level exception this summer after spending the last four seasons in San Antonio. He averaged 11.4 PPG and 4.8 RPG on .420/.381/.804 shooting in 63 games (21.6 MPG) last season before undergoing offseason surgery on his right heel. The Jazz were aware of that procedure when they agreed to sign him.
We’ll have to wait to see exactly how Gay fits into Utah’s rotation, but the club envisions him as a player who can create his own shot on offense and match up with bigger opposing forwards on defense. He’ll likely be eased into action in a limited role off the bench.
Lmao what ? Dude hasn’t played yet???? Wtf he been doing ??? What a waste for the jazz!
Dude had offseason heel surgery. Lmao are you a rookie fan? This is another shot maker for them. So much an underrated move and he fits their scheme well.
Thank you razzy428 there is an answer for you on Rudy Gay Available To Make Jazz Debut
Is this the year that the Jazz are taken serious in the playoffs or just another year with a great regular season and nothing more
Great question raz427 can you answer this too ?
I think they’re a top threat to GSW this year. They are well coached, have a rim protector, solid wings and a superstar in Mitchell. I think last year helped them gain experience. They’re loaded though if Gay can play up to his contract and potential. Right now, GSW is on another level but Utah has the pieces to beat them, it’s just a matter of execution.
Considering how good Utah is already, adding a quality veteran like Rudy Gay to their rotation can only increase their chances of going deep in the playoffs.
They already had a very good 7-8 man rotation a top defense and top offense. They had problems against the Clippers in last year’s playoffs even when Kawhi out but Mitchell and Conley were both playing through injuries that significantly hampered there ability to defend the perimeter.
They’ve got a superstar in Mitchell and the 2 time defensive player of the year in Gobert. They’ve got a sparkplug 6th man. Then a bunch of smart roleplayers that know they’re jobs like Ingles, Conley and Bodanovic. They added Gay that can play the 3 or 4 and sometimes the 5 in small ball lineups. They also added Whiteside who seems to have finally figured out his role which is rebound, set screens and block shots.
They’re legit contenders that can matchup with any team in the league.
Rudy’s gay?
A great pickup by Jazz. Definitely helps their depth. And contention hopes. Solid. Only missed 12 games. Relax. All about second half and playoffs.
Rudy Gay tonight !!!!!
18.23 mins, 20 pts, 5 rebs, 2 ast. Any team can use that. Now he’s on last yrs #1 seed in NBA. Jazz are happy.
