The Sixers don’t have any interest in acquiring Pistons forward Jerami Grant in a potential deal for Ben Simmons, a source tells Kyle Neubeck of The Philly Voice. Neubeck states that a Friday report that Grant is on a list of about 30 potential Sixers trade targets is outdated and there are no current negotiations involving Grant between the two teams.
Grant is a bad fit for the Sixers for several reasons, Neubeck adds. He’s too similar to Tobias Harris, and president of basketball operations Daryl Morey is only willing to overlook concerns about position overlap if he can get a star player in return. Also, Morey doesn’t view Grant’s salary – $20MM this year and $20.9MM next season – as easy to move in a future deal.
Philadelphia doesn’t consider Grant to be talented enough to be the centerpiece of a Simmons deal, according to Neubeck’s source. Morey isn’t panicking about not having a deal for Simmons yet and continues to hope for an elite perimeter player such as Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard or someone else in that class.
The Sixers expect offers for Simmons to increase and improve starting after December 15, when most newly-signed free agents can be dealt, but they don’t feel like they have to get something done by the February 10 trade deadline, Neubeck adds. Many executives around the league believe Morey is willing to let Simmons remain idle all season and see what new trade opportunities are available next summer.
That could give the team a chance to take advantage of sign-and-trade possibilities involving upcoming free agents as well as unhappy stars looking for a change of scenery or new management taking over other franchises and being willing to gamble on Simmons.
Sixers match up so well in a trade to the Kings. Not sure why their GM is only fixed on Lillard when he is not on the trading block and loves playing for Portland.
According to Sixers insider Keith Pompey,
Trade Package is
Ben Simmons for Jerami Grant, Kelly Olynyk, and Saddiq Bey.
Centerpiece is Bey
The 76ers just beat Sacramento without any of the 5 players who were projected to be their starting 5,(Embiid, Harris, Green, Simmons, Curry) available for the game! So how would the deal line up well for the 76ers?
I’ll take Jerami on Knicks. Gotta be top ten 2way player in NBA. I’d give up Mitch and Toppin for him. Love his game. He’s a Thibs kind of player for sure.
Also thought he’d be perfect for the Knicks.
In order to match salary you have to give up about 20mil in contracts, so I’d Say Fouriner plus Toppin for Grant and a pair of second rounders
@simmons>ross Why would pistons do that trade?
Exactly, that sounds ridiculous
That’s actually a good idea but, I doubt NYK would include Mitch & throw in NN instead. Which is not bad either considering Noels 3rd year is non-guaranteed.
Again why the hell would the Pistons do this?
If they could get Mitchell Robinson, Obi Toppin & a 1st for Jerami then Detroit should be very interested
Nahhhhh
To gain an all-star, 1st team all defensive team lead their Team?
Why would the 76ers do it? Grant + Bey are nice players but not going to move the needle enough for the 76ers to make a difference in this season.
Do you just try to make everything about the Knicks? My god you are insufferable
And you are over. Why is it all you do is complain. No one needs your opinion. And you certainly never have anything worthwhile to say. This gotta be Marty ……
“No one needs your opinion” from someone who rambles about the Knicks on every single article. The irony is palpable
Where would he fit in? Do you move Randle to center or something? Fournier/RJ/Randle are locked in at SG/SF/PF.
And you’d have to give up more than Mitch/Obi, even though I love both. Can’t see Detroit doing that deal unless you throw in a pick or two.
I don’t know what’s more bizarre between how poorly the sixers treated Simmons or how much they overvalue him in the 2021-22 NBA given his skill set.
If they seriously thought he was so valuable, then why did the entire team take such joy in taking turns throwing him under the bus?
Simmons is actually a perfect 5 in today’s NBA. Can guard 1-5 and is terrific on offense in transition. A team like the hornets should be interested since him, ball and bridges in transition would be elite.
Nah…Simmons can cover 1-5 on certain switches or matchups, but I wouldn’t want Ben guarding exclusively 4-5’s. He does not provide enough elite level rim protection and lacks the necessary physicality to matchup consistently with a physical 4-5…he can switch there, but I wouldn’t put the focus on him there. I am one of Bens biggest supporters but playing him full time at the 5 would be a mistake…+ you lose his best asset of versatility on any speedy guard and perimeter wings.
How poorly the Sixers have treated big Ben? The kid missed his first year completely, has digressed on the court yet was offered and signed a lucrative extension my friend, was supported publicly by two coaching staffs to the detriment of the teams championship aspirations and to top it off this petulant child now refusing to honor his contract with 4 years remaining. No my friend Simmons needs to sit and decide if he wants to play the game again.
(DeAndre Hunter or Kevin Huerter) plus Danilo Gallinari, Onyeka Okongwu, Delon Wright & a future 1st for Ben Simmons & Charles Bassey… Great deal for both teams now & long-term
You don’t value Okongwu enough. He’s going to be a very good 2way player. At the 4.
I value O very highly. He could be an all-star level guy one day & so could Dre. But Ben Simmons already is a all-star level guy & O is gonna be a valuable player for the Hawks but he’s gonna be behind Capela as far as being able to have the type of role/pt where he can reach his potential for the foreseeable future. To trade for a guy like Ben you have to give up talented guys but the Hawks are equipped to deal with the loss of Okongwu/Huerter if necessary. Plus getting Bassey from Philly would definitely help ease the loss of Okongwu. Bassey is a really talented young 5 just like Okongwu. They’re similar in many ways tbh except O is more explosive & Bassey is a lil thicker. I gotta wonder where you ever got this idea of O playing the 4 tho lol when did you ever see him playing that position?
Yeah I rate what your saying. Capela is the 5 for the foreseeable future and you’ve also got guys like Gallo and Collins that can play small ball 5 and Deing that covers the 5 too.
That leaves you with 4 talented blokes who can play the 5 and Bassey aswell for depth.
His whole college career …..
Why would you think a guy smaller than Bron is a center.
Randle is 250 LBs. And 6’ 8”
Bron is 250 LBs, And 6’ 9”
Okongwu is 235 LBs. And 6’ 8””
How long you going to debate this. It’s only like the 10th time. You failed arithmetic in 3rd grade lol. No one in NBA will play a guy 6’ 8” at center. And think they are a winner. Wes Unseld who was 6’7” and 250 LBs. Was one of strongest guys ever. Probably was only one to do it consistently. Amare ruined his career doing it. Plus Unseld had Elvin Hayes next to him. There is no rim protection wit anyone under 6’ 10” and good wing span. It’s just simple math.
Onyeka Okongwu started at the 5 every single game of his college career, wtf are you talking about lol. Go check literally any film of him at USC & he’s gonna be playing center. You say with so much confidence that no NBA team would play a guy his size at center lol did you miss when he was playing center vs your Knicks in the playoffs just a few months ago? He clearly did good enough then lol. He held his own vs Dwight in the 2nd rd too. You clearly have zero knowledge of this kids game at all lol rim protection is literally one of his main strengths. If you care so much about the boy then take the time to watch him play, he has plenty of video all over YouTube
I like the idea but I think between Hunter, Gallo and Okungwu there is far to much positional overlap.
I’d say Hunter, Bogi, Okungwu and a first for Ben and Bassey would be a deal I’d take for sure.
As a Sixers fan we can then run a line up of
Curry Bogi Hunter Harris and Embiid. With a bench made up of Maxey, Milton, Green, Thybulle, Korkmaz, Niang, Okungwu and Drummond.
Loads of depth and talent. Great mix of defence, shooting, versatility, basketball IQ and length.
Dre is a prototypical 3, Gallo is a prototypical stretch4 & Okongwu is a 5. I don’t see any overlap at all tbh. Gallo would definitely overlap with Niang who’s playing pretty well to start the season but Gallo is better than Niang & definitely more reliable in the postseason. Delon Wright is a steady, vet, pure pg with great size, the type of guy Philly currently doesn’t have. But if Philly demanded Bogdan instead of Delon & Gallo I would counter with… Kevin Huerter, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Onyeka Okongwu & Atls top5 protected 2023 1st for Ben Simmons & Charles Bassey
To me Hunter is a 3/4, Gallo is a 4/5 and same with Okungwu.
However our two best players right now are a 4 and a 5. So what you’d be doing in overloading at the 4 and 5 spots especially if you count in the fact we also have Drummond.
Personally I don’t really rate Hueter but I like Hunter. So I’d see your counter and respect that you have got in Bogi.
I’d counter back and say Bogi, Hunter, Okungwu and a first (top 14 protected) for Ben, Bassey and either I. Joe or J. Springer or a second round pick.
Feel like that would be a good middle ground.
Dre could play some 4 if necessary but he’s definitely a 3. Gallo definitely overlaps with Niang but he’s also an upgrade over Niang. Okongwu overlaps with Drummond too but Okongwu would be moreso for the future than for now. Drummond will be gone in free agency next summer & Okongwu still has 2 more yrs on his rookie contract after this season…. I’m sorta bewildered that you don’t rate Kev Huerter highly after what he did to Philly in the playoffs lol. I can definitely understand why you’d want Dre more tho. I actually just saw Jaden Springer play in a G-League game a couple hours ago & he’s extremely athletic but overall I like our young guards (Mays & Cooper) more than him… so to counter your counter to my counter I’d be willing to do Dre, Bogdan & Okongwu for Ben & Bassey straight up OR Dre, Delon, Okongwu, Gallo & a future 1st for Ben & Bassey
Gallinari came into NBA as a 3. He never was or is a prototypical 4. He’s a 3 who can play the 4 cause he is not quick. And can shoot. In Italy he always played the three. That’s why he’s nicknamed El Gallo. You really shouldn’t label players by other peoples assumptions. You sound like you swallow everything espn feeds you. You probably believe Duncan was a 4 too.
Gallo started his career a 3 yes but for maybe the last 3 years he’s been a 4 and has more recently had a lot of success as a small ball 5.
He’s 6’10 and if you watched games he is clearly the 4
Not a Sixers fan but where’s the perimeter shot making in that deal? And I like Hunter and Okongwu.
Gallinari is a BIG time shot maker, he’s probably a top3 stretch big in the game rn. Also Philly has plenty of shooters already with Seth, Korkmaz, Tobias, Niang, Green, Embiid amongst others. And Dre is a pretty good shooter himself but if Philly wants more shooting I’d be glad to sub Kevin Huerter in the offer instead of Dre. Kev is a great shooter
The fact is that Everyone offers role players for Simmons
Jerami Grant made the all-star team & the US Olympic team last season if I’m not mistaken
He didn’t make the all star team, and even if he did, it’s because he takes 30 shots a game on the Pistons
That still proves my point that he’s not just a “role player”
On a good team he is.
He’s avg 8.3 Shots a gm for his career. Last two yrs he’s at 17.3 and 15.1 per gm. You can look this up. Before exposing yourself
They won’t get a better player for Simmons than Jerami Grant.
Kings are a great fit.
Warriors would be insane with Simmons. If they were to trade Kuminga and wiseman for simmons. But, they don’t want to do that trade.
Market value
Simmons = Wiggins + Moody
IMO
Wiggins is 35% better player than Grant.
Why Warriors record is 14-2?
Answer: Wiggins
Green and Simmons are a little of the same player so why break up a team on a role with such good chemistry. JTA is Green’s back up and Iggy is they 2nd team all defense player. So Warriors have no need for more defense.
Philly is looking for guys that will help them now
Philly is delusional, they’re set on a superstar, but it’ll take so much more than Ben Simmons as the centerpiece
Jerami grant has more value than Ben Simmons although Ben is the better player he is not Playing at all right now and a lot of teams doesn’t want to give up major assets for him. So far the trade market is very low.
Grant is a role player, perhaps a starter at his best… Ben is an All-NBA player, so, I really can’t see your point, as anyone can see that even without playing Ben still is better than Grant!
Good old Don, another completely clueless take……
#FreeBenSimmons
He can free himself by playing himself back into value.
Philly is a joke of a franchise at this point. Just trade this dude already. His value will be non-existent by the time summer rolls around…
Don’t understand the situation. Okay Simmons had a bad experience in the playoffs last season. It isn’t the first time a player failed in the playoffs. Can’t Simmons and the team just put it behind them and get back to work. If the team all came together, the 76ers are a formidable team.
November 2024: “Philadelphia president of basketball operations Daryl Morey again expressed confidence that the team can get a good return in a trade for Ben Simmons…”
Ask the crystal ball “who wins the presidential election in November 2024”?
Bleacher Report is saying Cade Cunningham is the only player to move thae needle on Detroits roster.
F-that it’s Ben Simmons, he’s worth 25 cents on the dollar not $5 on the $.
Ben’s mental health BS excuse is the straw that broke the camels back for me. Ben never seemed happy here, and always wanted to play with LeBron. LeBron even had him traded to his team during the 1st All-Star “draft”, which I’m sure helped in his process of collusion to get Ben to leave Philly. He got his max extension and as soon as he heard the most minute reason to say he wanted out, he jumped at the chance. He blamed Doc, then Joel, then ???…but he’s too much of a coward to say things himself. His Agent, (&LBJs) Rich Paul has been.running his mouth non stop with BS, then when Ben had to show up and practice to get paid, he slow played things entering the covid protocol 1st, then tried to use a fake back issue that 76ers doctors debunked, then he went to the mental health issue, and is trying to devalue himself as much as possible to get his value low enough that the Lakers can try to obtain him. I hope that the 76ers get a star player or the equivalent in return, otherwise, I’d let him enjoy his early retirement.
I think the 76ers will trade Simmons in a 3 team multi player deal for either Lillard, Zion, or Siakam.Im sure that the Lakers will somehow get involved and get Ben, since what Baby Bron wants, he gets
