Lakers star Anthony Davis suffered an MCL sprain during Friday’s game and will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks, tweets Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Davis was injured midway through the third quarter when LeBron James was called for an offensive foul for pushing Jaden McDaniels, who lost his balance and fell into Davis’ left knee, McMenamin writes in a recap of the game. Davis tried to walk to the locker room without help, but he collapsed to the ground in pain while going through the tunnel. The Lakers originally classified the injury as a contusion, but an MRI today showed the full extent of the damage.
Davis has been experiencing pain in the knee and had an ultrasound performed Monday, McMenamin adds. He also turned his right ankle in the first quarter Friday and had to be treated by team doctors.
Davis missed 36 of the team’s 72 games last season, but had been much healthier this season. He has played in 27 of the Lakers’ first 30 games and is putting up typically dominant numbers with 23.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.0 blocks per night.
What happens if Lakers are not able to make playoffs?
Then another team will.
i will let out a hearty chuckle
The world will celebrate

They’ll just wait for the next superstar(s) to decide their lives won’t be complete until they play in L.A. Won’t take long. And they’ll get a huge bargain because the player(s) won’t extend anywhere else. Then they’ll sign a bunch of other good players cheap because they want to play on the Lakers, and lo and behold, there are the Lakers again.
The NBA is not fair nor is it intended to be. But it will be fun to watch them suck for a while, and their front running fanboys to get mad. So there’s that.
Lakers still have 1.5 GBs ahead of 9th seed Wolves.
Again, Lakers are in deep, deep trouble if they don’t upload Westbrook.
Whos gonna take him
The NBA will make special exemption and make them an 11 seed.
First Lebron accidentally bloodied Stewart now he accidentally injures Davis. Talk about being a klutz this season.
AD is showing he will not have a long career. I wouldn’t be surprised in 5 years he is out of the NBA. A big man with bad knees is a short career. lakers should look to flipping him as soon as possible while his trade value is up.
If AD plays 5 more years he’s looking at a 15 year career. Not bad for a big man with bad knees
No way they’re trading AD – LeBron would be so mad. And I don’t think trading Westbrook is the answer either – they’re just going to have to figure it out.
By the time they want to trade him will be the point at which he won’t get much return. They are going to have the same situation as the last years of Kobe where they are trapped overpaying a star.
Kobe was worth it though.
I completely agree because he’s just not the player he use to be and he’s injury proned. Lakers mind as well gamble and get another super star back for AD.
Blame Vogel for allowing AD to be 30 lbs over weight. Blame Vogel for allowing LBJ to be on the floor and for pushing the player into AD.
Pushed..lol That dude flopped.
Shaq was always overweight and Phil/Pat still won rings. Vogel is a bum, Pelinka is probably worst though.
Bring back Phil Jackson have him coach by zoom, he knows how to coach stars.
There may have been a push from LBJ but dude flopped into AD. It was a totally exaggerated reaction.
At least means way more than 4 weeks. The Lakers are notorious for underestimating injury timeframes. He’ll be back March 1st, nowhere near 100% and not ready to help significantly. The roster is already flawed and they’ll be lucky to gang in to a playoff seed.
“The Noodle” is hurt again?!? It really is a shame that Davis is injured as you never want to see that happen to anybody. The nicknames for A.D. could now include “Lard Ass” as in Stephen King’s, Lard Ass Hogan. The coach isn’t responsible for Davis being overweight. That’s him who is eating those Oreos. By the way, A.D. is Adrian Dantley. You could look it up.
Only person to be blamed is Vogel. BTW you need to lookup a dictionary and find the word “sarcasm”.
Frank Vogel is that you?
Yes, yes, yes. Please don’t tell LeBron.
Vogel is at fault for Davis being fat. There’s some sound logic.
Nah this just means more touches for Westbrook which means the team will play like the wizards of last year and exit early.
He had played in 27 of a possible 30 games…
So, you had to know an AD injury was forthcoming.
AD is NOT top 5 player and not even top 10. And if he isnt healthy to play, he isnt even in top 20. No all star team for AD this year!
If the Lakers want Ben Simmons, its Westbrook 4 unprotected 1sts and 4 2nds. And they also gotta take Daniel Green’s 10M. Pretty sure the Lakers don’t have the picks due to the AD trade.
Pretty sure Ben Simmons is nowhere near being worth that.
That’s the price to dump Westbrick.
I like the guy but I’d unload AD in a heartbeat for a bona fide shooter like Beal or Lilliard to pair with LBJ. Then add a good enough 3 and D big man and LBJ gets another ring.
Funny how AD is dominating this year but you swap him for 2 guys that are stinking it out in a way never seen before, very smart!
Trading AD doesn’t solve the Lakers problems because AD isn’t the problem. He has been posting good numbers, and they won a title with him as part of the formula.
The Lakers traded all their depth and cap space for Russ, which has proven to be a terrible move.
Lakers have to hope that whatever clicked the second half of the season last year in DC for Westbrook will happen again. Unfortunately between the injuries and now Covid he hasn’t even had an opportunity to play with a consistent lineup. Will probably hamper or at least slow down things clicking in.
