DECEMBER 9: The Bulls have officially signed Johnson to a 10-day contract using the hardship exception, the team announced today in a press release.
DECEMBER 8: The Bulls are signing forward Stanley Johnson by using a hardship exception, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link). Johnson was playing in the G League for the South Bay Lakers, but was with the Bulls during training camp.
The Bulls evidently applied for and were granted the hardship exception after Matt Thomas became the fourth member of the team to enter the league’s health and safety protocols.
Johnson, 25, was the No. 8 pick in the 2015 draft by the Pistons. He spent his first three-plus seasons in the league with Detroit before being traded to the Pelicans in 2018/19. Johnson played for the Raptors the past two seasons and was a regular rotation player last season, averaging 4.4 PPG, 2.5 RPG, and 1.5 APG in 61 contests for the club (16.5 MPG).
Johnson is a strong, physical athlete and a solid defender, but shooting has limited his effectiveness in the NBA. In 331 career games (19.7 MPG), he holds averages of 6.2 PPG 3.1 RPG, and 1.4 APG on .375/.298/.761 shooting.
In six games with South Bay this season (30.5 MPG), Johnson put up 15.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 2.2 SPG with a .405/.286/.750 shooting line.
Must be more covid protocols coming.
S Johnson at 25. Is worth a good look. He’s putting up good numbers in the G-league. Bulls need depth.
So many dudes in protocols, he will probably get some real minutes though, bulls I think only have 8 or 9 guys who can even play right now…if only stupid kyrie would get the shot we wouldn’t even have protocols anymore
@parx…What are you talking about..???
Even if Kyrie was the only one, which he isn’t, there would still be protocols in place because the players aren’t in a bubble, they’re around other nonvaccinated family members, friends, spouses, etc.
I really hope that was a joke, and you weren’t being serious…lol
Kyrie is a SjuperSpreader lol …
Stanley is someone who can resurrect his career and be that x factor for the Bulls. Was good for Raptors. Pistons … their fans will throw up when his name is mentioned but that’s on Casey and his vaulted player development.
Fat Stan sure did not do that in preseason. He was awful, just a fat, slow, stupid player with 5 fouls to use. I guess COVID racked beggars can’t be choosers.
Good news (I guess) is that under GarPax he would have been their big free agent signing. 8))
@joe Stanley was not “good” for the Raptors. He shot .380/.326/.746 in 2 years, averaged less than 4 ppg and didn’t bring the defence he was supposed to.
You should know by now that there’re lies, damn lies, and statistics. Stanley played any and all roles for Nick Nurse last year after basically sitting his first yr with Raptors. I’m sure NN would take him back if the great Masai would wake up again.
I watched like almost every game, Joe, he wasn’t good.
Watching someone like Bonga last night should give you a better appreciation for Stanley who can at least stay in front of his guy, set a screen, and even be the only big on the floor. Just because he was a lottery pick should not bias your opinion of what he can do now.
Nah haha, watching Bonga doesn’t give me any appreciation for Stanley. You appear to have a weird obsession with him, I don’t get it. I don’t care where he was picked in the draft, he’s no good.
If he was any good he would’ve been signed before now.
