Knicks guard Derrick Rose underwent surgery on his right ankle today, the team announced (via Twitter). Rose is set to be re-evaluated in eight weeks, but there’s optimism that his timetable may be closer to six weeks, tweets Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Rose has been experiencing pain in the ankle and hasn’t played since last Thursday when he logged 12 minutes against the Rockets. He has been a steady presence for New York this season, averaging 12.0 points and 4.0 assists in 26 games.
The 33-year-old guard has a long injury history, dating back to a torn ACL in the 2012 playoffs. He has experienced issues with both ankles throughout his career.
With Rose sidelined, more point guard duties will likely revert to Kemba Walker, who was benched for more than three weeks before returning to the lineup Saturday. He will try to help keep the 14-17 Knicks in the playoff race until Rose can return.
Anybody even vaguely familiar with this guy should know that he’s gonna come back strong
what a disappointing year.
Rose has been our best perimeter player this year, so it’s a loss. But the injury does open up future PT for Kemba, without affecting McBride’s path (or Quickley’s role), and also demonstrates why I doubted they would ever trade him unless he requested it.
Oh No ….. feel for you player. As a Knicks fan “this sucks” . Get well D …….
Well I guess that Kemba role. Where I said he could be like Rose for a team. Can really happen now. This is why in sports. You can never have enough depth. The Basketball gods somehow align it all. I still would like to see McBride start. We have to make the playoffs this yr. Is all I know. Have to. Get well D, please.
Other than Luka I can’t remember a rookie pg starting for a playoff team since Brandon Jennings. Starting a rookie at pg is a quick way to lose a bunch of games. I like Miles McBride but he’s basically a poor man’s Elfrid Payton right now (tho tbh NYK was playing much better with Payton at pg)
He’s better than Payton lol. And best 2way PG we got. He plays a more controlled gm. He can handle starting imo. But I hear you cause Thibs is probably with you.
How is McBride better than Payton? Even rookie Elfrid Payton was probably better than McBride is rn tbh. Remember Payton was a lottery pick & arguably the best pg in the country coming out of college. Payton isn’t flashy at all & not a threat as a shooter but losing him is a big reason the Knicks have struggled early on this season
Stick to the Hawks lol. This isn’t about us. I could explain to you why he is better. But why bother right. You do t care. Just accept we disagree. Payton has to be one of worst starters we ever had. For a guy who claims to know ball. You must never have really watched McBride play.
The difference between me and you. I can see talent in any team. You only see it on Hawks. And I like Cam. But he like JJ when a Celtic. Is to young for this run. Timing is a big part of success in life.
Wait – aren’t you the “HAWKS ARE THE NEXT DYNASTY lol lol” guy?
Please amend that prediction and then we can discuss your thoughts on Elfrid Payton. Thx.
Derrick Rose played out of his mind in the past year and regrettably for Knicks Nation he won’t ever be the same player again. Father time is undefeated, especially for often injured 33+ pgs.
Lol this is DEFINITELY a guy that thought Pooh was done years ago. Keep wishing dude
I wouldn’t mind seeing McBride play some big minutes. Does anyone know if Luca Vildoza is available to come back?
No clue but if he is I’d to see him get some mpg. PG has been rough for us this season, Rose notwithstanding
Sorry, I didn’t sign on this community until this year. We’ll be compassionate with Knicks Nation given how rough it’s been for past 20 yrs. LOL.
McBride has the physical skills and the mental makeup to be a star. I told the 2k’ers on draft night that McBride was the crow jewel of a great draft night for the Knicks’ FO, and I didn’t say it merely to annoy them amidst their angst and ridicule of every move the Knicks made that night (although that was a side benefit). Anyway, McBride not only fits with Thibs, but was drafted largely because of Thibs is now firmly a Thibs’ guy. So, I have no doubt at this point that he has a clear path to all the minutes (and roles) he can earn.
When Rose is healthy, he could easily start, because Rose (the guy who gets the most minutes) prefers to come off the bench and finish. If Kemba plays Rose’s minutes, or any significant minutes, I’m guessing Kemba will likely start. BUT, on a cautionary note, Fizdale is no longer the HC. So, McBride’s minutes will have to be earned consistent with team goals and will carry accountability with them. I know McBride can handle that. I’m not sure about some Knick fans.
I am amazed at the Knick posters optimistic outlook. McBride does not make this passes necessary to be a starter this year for a playoff team. Hopefully the Knicks Front office will be patient and not make some hasty trades unless walker and Fournier are leaving.
Give a little sympathy to Knicks Nation. With 1 playoff series win in past 20 yrs, let them dream that G-leaguers like McBride will take them to the promiseland. Rest of the league knows we can always pass on retreads and garbage once Knicks FO panics before their eventual firing by their idiot owner. That and Christmas comes each and every year.
