Hawks guard Kevin Huerter and Warriors guard Damion Lee are the latest additions to the long list of NBA players in health and safety protocols.
Huerter is the sixth Atlanta player to be sidelined because of COVID-19, writes Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He joins Trae Young, Clint Capela, Danilo Gallinari, Lou Williams and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, who have all entered the protocols since Sunday.
Huerter is averaging 10.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists through 28 games. The Hawks had been hoping he could carry a larger share of the scoring load with so many rotation members out of action.
Atlanta is also without De’Andre Hunter, who is recovering from an injury to his right wrist, and Solomon Hill, who’s sidelined with a torn right hamstring. Lance Stephenson and Malcolm Hill, who were both added to the roster today under the hardship provision, are expected to be available for tonight’s game with the Magic.
“It’s an adjustment that we have to make, we can’t allow this to be a distraction,” coach Nate McMillan said. “We have a game to play tonight. We have to come out with that energy and that effort we’ve been talking about, no matter who is in uniform. We have to play this game harder than we’ve played here lately. We’ve got to execute better, even though we’ve got a few new faces that will be out on the floor.”
The Warriors are listing Lee as being in the protocols in their latest injury report, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. He becomes the third Golden State player affected, joining Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole. Lee has been a dependable bench player for the Warriors, averaging 8.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 25 games.
Dam it sucks to have Kev out, especially since he’s the 1 guy on our team who can usually be counted on to be available every night. Again tho this is where my guy Cam Reddish steps in to (finally start &) have a big game vs Orlando tonight. Hopefully this means we get to see Lance tonight as well. Definitely a big opportunity for guys like Cam, Delon Wright as well as our young guys Skylar/Jalen/Sharife. Obv getting Bogdan back tonight is big too. I expect a starting lineup of Wright/Bogdanovic/Reddish/Collins/Dieng
Looks like we’re starting Sky Mays instead of Bogdan who’s probably on a minutes restriction but the rest of my guess at a starting 5 was right. Huge opportunity for Skylar in what has to be his 1st career NBA start.
Cam is continuing to show why we definitely shouldn’t trade him anytime soon but he’s been the sole bright spot so far. Our youngsters have been pretty bad & our pg play has been less than ideal. I love what Lance brings tho & very much hope we keep him for the rest of the year. Lance > TLC
Hawks sign assistant coach Chris Jent to a 10-day replacement player contract
prime example of a something that should’ve remained a private thought instead of a public comment
Protocol, protocol
Please don’t take us all
We just want to play
In the NBA
Was really looking forward to that Christmas Day matchup. At this rate it could be bench against bench.
Cam with a nice gm tonight. Imo Cam needs to go somewhere to get steady mins. Not going to happen in Atlanta. Unless they move a few players. Hawks want to be a good playoff team. Not easy with all young players.
Cam gets steady minutes in ATL. He hasn’t been a starter until tonight & as I’ve said many times on this site he should be starting on this team. He was our starting 2guard last season until his injury forced him to sit most of the last 3 months of the season & he started/played a lot as a rookie too so I’m not sure what makes you think he can’t get steady minutes here. Also you again forget that the Hawks were already a good playoff team just 6months ago with a team that was younger than the team we have now. This isn’t a team that’s “all young” as you say. Clint, Bogdan, Gallo, Lou, Gorgui, Delon these are all veteran guys. John is in his 5th season, Trae & Kev are basically vets at this point having played so much as youngsters earlier in their careers. Our truly young guys have barely seen any pt this season
One thing I don’t do is ever forget anything that’s a fact. Bogdanovic and Huerter both are ahead of Cam. Cause of experience and consistency. That’s what a playoff team needs. And you gotta be the most uninformed Homer here, oh no that’s Marty. You’re second.
Hawks haven’t been in playoffs since 2017. So that’s not a playoff team. That’s a team that just made the playoffs. Try reading next time. I said with Cam they are young. Even without him they are still young. Cause their stars are young.
I’m going to say this once. If by now you haven’t learned. You will never teach me anything. Well ?? The Hawks nucleus is young. Trae 23, Collins 24, Huerter 23, Hunter 24, all ahead of Cam 22. That’s why you signed Bogdanovic and Gallinari and traded for Capela. All ahead of Cam. And Imo your best big PF Okongwu also better than Cam. So where excatly do you see mins for Cam on a serious Hawks playoff team. Then they drafted a big SF. Unless he can play PG it ain’t happening.
Maybe you should listen to yourself about rookies starting. You don’t win in the playoffs without vets. Maybe that’s why there are so many rumors about Cam being traded.
Hawks were in the playoffs last season lol if a team makes the playoffs they’re clearly a playoff team. Cam Reddish played 30mins in our last playoff game lol you sound extremely ridiculous talking about where are we gonna find mins for him. He’s literally our best perimeter defender he’s guaranteed minutes even when he’s not shooting well. He got like 42mins just tonight lol. You yourself name 3 of our vets (I already named like 7) while trying to make an argument that our team is too young lol you’re confused and misinformed. I should listen to my own advice about rookies starting? Lol wtf are you talking about? Cam is in his 3rd yr in the league & clearly not a pg. He has nothing to do with Miles McBride. There’s rumors about Cam getting traded bc he’s really good and a lot of people wish he was on their team lol keep wishing
