Following up on ESPN’s recent report stating that there may be momentum toward a Ben Simmons deal, Shams Charania of The Athletic confirms that the Sixers have increased their efforts to explore multi-team trade scenarios involving Simmons.
According to Charania, the Knicks and Lakers are among the teams with interest in Simmons. Charania adds that the Timberwolves, Trail Blazers, Kings, Pacers, and Cavaliers also have interest, but those clubs have been previously cited as potential suitors for the three-time All-Star, whereas New York and Los Angeles are new additions to the list.
The Knicks would be a fascinating potential trade partner for Philadelphia. Their top offseason additions – Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker – haven’t been major successes so far and the team is off to a 12-15 start, perhaps increasing the likelihood of an in-season shakeup. New York would have the contracts necessary to match Simmons’ $33MM+ salary, and it’s probably safe to assume Tom Thibodeau would be a fan of what last season’s Defensive Player of the Year runner-up could bring to the table on defense.
Still, while the Knicks might be willing to roll the dice on Simmons if all it took was Fournier, Walker, and a couple draft picks, Philadelphia will presumably seek a more significant return. The 76ers remain on the hunt for an All-Star caliber player and/or multiple first-round picks in any deal for Simmons, Charania notes.
It’s even trickier to imagine the Lakers as a realistic trading partner for the Sixers. Given the salaries on the team’s books, Los Angeles would almost certainly have to include Russell Westbrook in any trade involving Simmons and I’m skeptical that 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey would want to acquire Westbrook again after doing so in Houston didn’t pay dividends. Perhaps a three-team structure could work, but the Lakers seem like a long shot at best in the Simmons sweepstakes.
It’s unclear whether the Sixers have gained any real traction in any of their discussions involving Simmons, according to Charania.
So what does the Lakers have they could trade to the 76ers? Only player I see would be AD. Maybe since they are playing better without AD lately could they trade AD for Simmons?
THT, Monk, picks. Maybe Westbrook
That offer could easily be trumped by many teams with better players for Simmons.
Lakers have to trade away Westbrook, otherwise they are in deep deep trouble
What picks? Do they even have a trade able first rounder? Im pretty sure NOP owns all of them for the next 7ish years.
Lakers view overpaid Simmons value as low as Westbrook
76ers do not want Westbrook
Lakers have 2027 first round pick to trade
Do they? I think with the Stepien rule they cant even trade that one since 2026 is already gone and you cant trade out of 2 drafts in a row.
Unsourced made-up stuff. LJ was a Simmons fan once and I have not heard otherwise since. He would likely appreciate a RW/BS trade, but not an AD/BS trade.
The Lakers seem like the perfect fit. What a dumpster fire of egos.
Trade Dame to Philadelphia
Trade Simmons to Lakers
Trade Russ to Portland
We all win as fans.
That is one bad deal. Portland would trade Dame to 76ers for Simmons and Maxey if they wanted to trade Dame. Westbrook is not worth very much.
Oh I’m not saying just those three guys, but that’s the centerpiece of this deal. Of course Mackey would need to be involved, among other players and picks.
Maxey****
problem is why would Portland want Westbrook? Dame is a much better younger player than Westbrook. If they traded dame it would be for a rebuild so they would want Simmons a much younger player to rebuild around. probably maxey thrown in. 76ers would want dame so lakers need to trade Westbrook for young assets to be included in a trade offer.
Stop smoking crack before you come up with trades bro….
Stop smoking crack, period. Lol
I’m just bored, and tired of Simmons hogging up the attention lol.
Philadelphia is reportedly looking for an All-Star-caliber player and multiple first-round draft picks in exchange for Simmons.
My prediction
Simmons to Pacers
Pacers have offered a package of 30% of asking price.
Lakers offer 0% of asking price.
I remember that Rockets asking price for Oladipo from Knicks is
1 good young player
AND
at least 2 future First round picks
What would the Lakers have to give? Nothing I can see Philly would want in return.
Think of the harden trade. If the lakers pull it off . It be a trade like the nets did for harden. So many teams would have to be involved
The nets had assets the Lakers dont. No young up and coming players with high upside. No draft picks. No contracts of any value that they are willing to move, AD/LBJ.
Westbrook is 33 years old. Simmons is 25 years old. Lakers are going to need to pull in a 3rd team somehow but they don’t have young players to offer other teams in trades. Maybe Talen-Horton Tucker and future Draft picks on top of whomever they send out, that is, if they have not already traded all of their future draft picks.
As far as young players . They have tht who 20, monk who like 23 , nunn who like 24/25 and Austin reaves
Monk is a one year min guy. THT is an ok role player without an outside shot nobody wants all that badly. Reaves is not a high pedigree draft pick, and hasnt proven nearly enough to have much if any positive value. Oh and NOP own every future draft pick.
Moving Westbrick and his 47M would involve attaching picks, so yeah I can say there is zero chance Ben Simmons plays for the Lakers anytime soon.
Lakers have nothing for Philly.
If philly wanted they lakers do have 4 young guys to pick from
But none measure up to what their asking price has been. They could have traded Simmons for more by this point.
They would want good, young talent. Not just young.
This^
None of them are “Young stars in the making”. They have at best moderate role players. THT has the most value and they may not be able to get a first rounder for him right now. Just because people were hyped off him his first pre season doesnt mean any teams really think THT is worth that much on his contract.
Simmons to the Lakers its 100% impossible, even if Russ is playing better lately, no team would pick him. And im not sure if Simmons, while a better player than RW, will be a better fit for them. Obviously he will add a nice boost to their awful defense, but on offense will be harder to space the floor, while adding another bad FT shooter.
I think this reports about the Lakers are only there to make buzz around Simmons.
The only scenario, where is possible good trade for both teams, is something around Lillard – Simmons, its by far the best situation.
Lakers don’t have good assets to trade for Myles Turner, they have to get Ben Simmons, which Lakers veiw Simmons differently.
Simmons is still going to cost more than Turner. Even depressed his market is so far above what any package from LA would be. Like the Spurs would easily make a Simmons move if LA has a price that works since anyone can beat the garbage offer they would make. They have no starting calibre players or draft picks FFS people dont understand trade value.
All of a sudden Simmons’ plummeted trade value has a lot of value after all…. who woulda thunk!
Poor playoffs…. mental problems… bad free throw shooter… scared to take jumpshots…. disappears in the 4th qtr… offensive liability…. hasn’t played…. needs to play to get his value up….
Geez, all these potential trades now…
what happened?
Oh… December 15
he never had bad trade value just 76ers GM wanted way more than he was worth. the problem with this trade article is the Lakers are mentioned and they have traded away all their valuable assets. Westbrook is a bad contract for a player on the downside of his career and 76er are not going to want him.
I know he never had bad trade value. My comment was strait sarcasm. But I read so many comments on here once training camp started that his trade value had plummeted.
GM’s knew/know his value, they were just all trying to fleece the sixers. But, his value had never dropped, let alone plummeted.
Google the word “plummeted”
He’s NOT going to LA. This story is nonsense. LA has NOTHING the 76’s want or need. This is pure clickbait.
The only teams that should be changing their team this drastically in December are the ones staring at or trying to get a lottery pick.
I would trade Randle for Simmons and try to keep some young talent instead. It’s bold move, but Randle is just not the go to guy at the end of the game and he always wants the ball.
Randle gets the ball because he is currently option A. You think Simmons is an end of the game option A? He won’t shoot and can’t hit free throws. He can’t be the guy. I would not trade Randle for him personally.
You can get Maxey as well as Simmons for Randle. Knicks need to utilize everybody at the end of the games(find open guy) rather than Randle only.
What is with everyone getting high out of their minds before proposing stuff. There is no way Maxey goes to the Knicks FFS FP. It would be Randle plus stuff. I dont even know if they would want Randle in PHI, and Im not sure there is another team to rope in. His value is down from last year and he is owed a lot.
Randle and Embiid doesn’t sound like a good duo to me. Randle’s defense is, at least, questionable, like his decision making. This year his shots are not going in like last season.
I hope the knicks just stick with developing the young players and not do a panic trade.
Westbrook does nothing for Philly
POR: Sabonis + Simmons
PHI: Cj + M Turner + Brogdon
IND: Anfernee Simons + Little + Nurkic + RoCo + POR & PHI 1st rnd picks
Don’t hate it, but CJ’s collapsed lung might be an impediment
Wow. I didn’t think this situation could get anymore laughable but then I got to picture Simmons in a Laker jersey. The real question is, when Simmons is inevitably moved and suits up for his new team immediately after the trade are we going to be able to mock him for faking mental struggles? Have we all come to the conclusion that the only thing troubling Ben was his bank account?
Ummm…maybe his mental problems are because of the thought of suiting up for the 76ers. I think he’s overrated and overpaid but he still in the end doesn’t mentally want to play for the 76ers.
I think Simmons is intriguing enough that almost any team would have some level of interest. Doesn’t mean he’s anybody’s priority target, or even their secondary one. He’s a younger player, but he’s NOT a kid on a RSC any longer (so the sky’s the limit narratives were fading even before he went AWOL). He’s a fully priced (max level) fallen star, who has to be valued (in the market) as though he’ll never be able to shoot (since asking him is apparently off limits) and who otherwise has a questionable mental makeup (you can’t behave the way he has, and expect other teams to say, yeah, OK, we won’t mark down his value over it).
Lakers can’t win with big 3. Sheesh
Wolves Russell, McDaniels And okogie plus top ten protected 1st rounder 2022
I don’t think Gupta is going to give up any of his big 3 for Simmons.
Ben for Kyrie ….. get it done. And let’s roll. Best trade ever.
Nobody wants Kyrie until he gets the vaccine
Imagine working your body so much that you become an NBA superstar…and then you’re afraid to get your flu-shot. smh
#FreeBenSimmons
I’d like to see him go to the Wolves but they may not have the assets to get it done.
