Momentum is building towards a Ben Simmons trade for the Sixers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe of ESPN (Twitter link). Several teams are engaged with Philadelphia at the moment, with the 76ers discussing both two- and three-way deals. Philly is still searching for a top-tier player, Woj adds.
In a follow-up tweet, Wojnarowski relays that the increased activity is partially due to the fact that December 15 is just days away. That’s the date when most offseason signees become eligible for inclusion in trades.
Woj also says that the Trail Blazers have told the Sixers that Damian Lillard is off the table in trade talks, adding that interim GM Joe Cronin is committed to building around Lillard, who has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay in Portland long-term (Twitter links).
It’s only natural that trade talks would pick up around Dec. 15, but it’s interesting that the timing coincides with the Pacers listening to offers for Caris LeVert, Domantas Sabonis, and Myles Turner.
I’m not trying to imply that the Sixers necessarily want any of those three players, as Sabonis and Turner have positional overlap with Joel Embiid and LeVert has struggled thus far, but it’s definitely possible that the Pacers – who were linked to Simmons earlier this year – could be involved in the three-way talks.
I like the idea of a Sabonis-Simmons trade, as long as Domantas is fine with being a power forward. That would give the Sixers the best frontcourt in the NBA.
Indy would have better offers from other teams if they offered Sabonis. Myles Turner is the more likely big man to be put on the block anyway.
Sabonis makes more sense though because the sixers don’t need Turner who only plays the 5.
Name the teams friend. Big Ben is coveted. Sabonis starts the discussion, Indiana would need to sweeten any pot . Ben is walking triple double for a guy who can’t shoot and lest we forget coaches call him the best defensive player in the league friend.
Ben is not coveted. If the last 9 months had not happened, he would be. Unfortunately for the Sixers the last 9 months did happen. He’s the worst shooter in the NBA, practically, becomes invisible in high pressure playoff situations, is a major diva, and may or may not really like to play basketball. No, he’s not coveted. Not anymore.
If all these teams are seeking him, that’s fits the definition of coveted I believe. Teams win championships with defense don’t they? And I’ve seen lots of other players pass up a chance under the boards for a potential three pointer. Seems common these days but Ben got branded for doing so by his own team’s brain trust. Hmm.
@beachguy yes teams with defence can win championships. Teams with guys who pass up open dunks at clutch moments in the playoffs, and refuse to shoot the ball, do not. In fact, they never make it out of the second round (aka the Sixers). I honestly think they probably should’ve shipped out Simmons and kept Butler, but they screwed that up. Ojdiddoit is a notorious Simmons enthusiast, almost every comment I see from him he is slurping his precious “Big Ben”.
Whole we all yet to be witty online, as I do here, big Ben has truly gone from a list star to non all-star. I’d call that neither coveted or hated. Just an average solid starter. Freak athlete with arms so long and a heavenly gift from God that he was born with size and length and a vertical 40 in and then choosing to take a hundred to 200 million dollars and not learn how to shoot a free throw also means he’s not hated but he’s not coveted he’s kind of a piece of s***
Ojdidoit is just a sixer lover
“coveted”
Oh my sides.
Lol dude just watched him not be coveted since the playoffs ended only to call him coveted, hilarious, sixers fans take too many psychedelics
Ben Simmons is absolutely coveted… Only morons say otherwise. The question is how much in terms of what a team would be willing to give up to get him.
If he’s not coveted then he’ll never be traded. That’s obviously gonna happen. All he has to do is be traded for all these morons saying he’s not coveted to be proven wrong. That’s a really dumb and impossible to be proven right stance to take. You’re just proving you’re an idiot and a troll.
I’m going against the tide here but I do think Ben Simmons is Coveted. The guy is an amazing basketball player. He’s just a little bit yippy with his shot and scoring overall right now.
The ONLY reason he hasn’t been traded is because the Sixers want way too much in return !! That’s the “crazy” part.
But yeah I think Ben Simmons is Coveted and any team would be glad to have him. I know I’m in the minority with that thought but the guy is a stud in so many different ways.., and a coach or teammates should be able to help him get over his offensive mental struggles. Hopefully.
Where in the world do you play Tobias? He is dreadful at the 3…I like Sabonis but this is a bad fit IMO. Seems likely a 3rd team would need to be involved
Pacers got to be at the top of the trade rumors. Please don’t say Warriors because according to all reports they are happy with their players.
arc89, I think you’re right. The Warriors will stand Pat and look for buyout candidates when that time rolls around. I don’t think they want to give away any of their current roster Guys 1-15. Perhaps maybe Moody but overall I think they love what they have.
I also think I agree with a lot of the other guys here that the Pacers big men would be poor fits on the Sixers, so 3 or 4 team deals sounds more appropriate.
I’m getting Spurs vibes. Simmons might thrive under Pops as Pops’ last big project. And he’d know how to make the best use of Ben. Dejounte Murray would be a disappointing main get for Sixers fans but that’s mostly because not many Eastern conference fans have seen him play much. Would actually be a fair trade.
umm we actually want Murry it’s our GM and front office who dosen’t
Is “we” a French word? Because we most certainly do not want this trade
So you are suggesting the Spurs trade their best young player for a head case that can’t make a shot. Seems like you are thinking of 2019 Ben Simmons.
Yeah if anyone says no it would be San Antonio. But the Spurs are going nowhere, and Simmons has a higher ceiling than Murray. Ben is still young. Younger than Dejounte in fact, by a couple months. It’s a risk but Murray is also a big injury risk so it kind of evens out.
There are rumblings that the Spurs may be in play for Sabonis or Turner (which would push Poeltl to the bench). I think both of those ideas are more feasible than Simmons, especially with Primo looking like out PGOTF.
Pop just isn’t going to want to bring in a primadona/bad teammate into the fold, but particularly when there would be other more pressing issues on the roster.
He has stated he wants to play with like minded defensive players so I assume he wants Murray to stay and not be included anyway.
Raptors vibe:
Toronto: Sabonis
INDY: Simmons, FRP
Phily: Dragic, Siakam
Who is offering that 1st rder? Toronto is unloading Dragic, Siakam AND a pick for Sabonis??? No sir. Philly is shelling out a pick to go along with the best player in the deal? No sir.
Toronto sends pick
Doesn’t work financially…
+ salary filler to make it work.
What salary filler? Philly needs to send out at least 11 mil more and the pacers have to send another 10 mil.. thats more than filler considering siakam and Harris don’t fit particularly great together and Dragic is washed.
great trade for Toronto… not so hot for the other two even with a first rounder
Sixers: Jaylen Brown
Celtics: Myles Turner Caris LeVert
Indy: Ben Simmons Mattise Thybulle
I don’t like this, but I could likely learn to live with it…only hypothetical that has interested me yet
Hard for me to believe the Celtics would move Jaylen Brown to the Sixers.
Friend the celtics are sinking fast, with a defense so porous bill Russell is contemplating coming out of retirement. Brown better be available to anyone.
And you think adding Myles Turner and LeVert will stop that slide?
Celtics are not giving Philly Brown. Brown might be traded but they will not trade him to Philly.
@cf Myles Turner is a very good defensive big, with great rim protection and the ability to space the floor, something Time Lord doesn’t have. That could be a formidable front court. I agree Celtics are not giving Brown to Philly though.
Celtics not getting enough here. Would need another player or a 1st rounder.
Feel like it’s a decent return. LeVert is a very capable side kick scoring option next to Tatum. While Brown is a better scorer and defender you also get back Myles Turner who is an elite rim protector and great floor spacing centre.
I mean Smart Schroder LeVert JRich Tatum Horford Turner Williams that’s a more than decent top 8. Plus the likes of Pritchard, Nesmith, Langford, G Williams, Hernagomez and Kanter
LeVert can put up big numbers when healthy, that is a big “when healthy” though, @simmons. He works a lot better as the number one guy… again when healthy… though. He wouldn’t be that in Boston, it would be Tatum chucking up 30 shots a game.
@seamaholic
I agree that the Celtics aren’t getting enough. I also think the Pacers are getting too much. Getting Ben and Thybulle for Turner and the oft injured Levert is great value. Unlikely. To make the trade more fair, I’d say Thybulle goes to the Celtics instead of Pacers.
Probably not realistic though because if Pacers are rebuilding, I’d doubt they want Ben. Realistically Ben goes to a 4th team and the Pacers get a couple expirings, and all the picks and young players Ben can net them.
Why would Celtics give up brown for 2 role players. Stevens will never do a deal like this. Brown is the best player in this entire deal.
Derp
Horrible trade for Boston. Not to mention they wouldn’t move Brown the Philly

Hey. I’m kind of an outsider to the nba. But I got some high end Bol Bol rookie cards. I was wondering if you would recommend holding onto them or sell why they still have high value. I could at least get my money back, I’ve had them for about a year
Em
They will be worth more when his son Bolbol Bol enters the NBA in 2043. Put them in a vacuum sealed canister and wait, you will be able to buy a personal moon rocket with the profits.
Stevep-4 … Bazinga!
Serious answer is bol bol is going nowhere. But it depends how much you have invested in the cards. 20 bucks or less each might as well hold on to them. 20 bucks in your pocket isn’t going to make a single difference in your life. If the slight chance the card takes off, $200 can at least get you dinner and drinks for you and the wife. If the card flops and goes to zero you missed out on a $20 burger and iced tea lunch at Applebee’s.
It’s different if you paid $100 each and you can get your money back now. Personally I’d probably jump on that. Good luck.
Might as well use them as toilet paper..
There seems to be no way that this is going to be a simple 2 team trade. Going to have to be at least 3 teams involved
Why would Pacers trade Sabonis their best player. Unless they are going full rebuild. I don’t see him going anywhere.
The only way Dillard goes to Philly. Is if he wanted to. And the Sixers overpaid to get him. It would take more than Ben. Moreyon is looking at the wrong Blazer guard. A three way gets more teams involved. So there could be movement come Dec 15. FINALLY
no more Ben stories .
Sabonis to the Mavs makes sense.
Just going to say this… it will be a lot for Tobias Harris to cover the top wings in the league and you can only play Embiid Sabonis Harris Curry Maxey a limited amount of time before it becomes an issue against elite wings.
Yeah he’s basically just an average player if you make him a full time 3, the reason he can be a borderline all star is him playing the 4.
Sabonis playing 32 minutes of staggered center and PF doesn’t work? He’s not 6 man for sure, but he’d make sure the team isn’t coasting with bench minutes.
Lillard off the table?!?! REALLY?!?! What a shocker! And no 90 year old cardiac patients will climb Mount Everest this year.
Danny green and Simmons for westbrook and a pick. Contracts match. Simmons helps the lakers on the defensive side of ball. They don’t need Westbrook when lebron and ad can win without Westbrook. Embiid would like westbrook
No chance. Just because the contracts match doesn’t mean it’s a good trade. 76ers would never trade Simmons for Westbrook.
Lakers1… Is that you, Rich Paul???? ;)
Westbrook blows.
I didn’t know this is where you come to make 1 sided trade suggestions. If that’s the case…
Ben Simmons for Luka Doncic. The 76ers can fill their point guard need and 2nd go to scorer to help Embiid in 1 shot.
The 76ers should also trade Tobias Harris for Giannis.
You now what and to top it off… Both teams should send picks to the 76ers just for the hell of it.
Username checks out
I still like Simmons for Ingram personally. Obviously throw in some sweeteners like Shake and a couple picks, but I’d happy with the offensive infusion. Hell, I’d be an offensive infusion for Philly in a Ben Simmons trade.
So incredible that so many on this sight – for months – were saying Simmons had no trade value or his value had declined… that his value was low because he wasn’t playing now, because he had a bad playoffs, etc…
As if the actual GMs really thought Simmons all of a sudden wasn’t an All-Star anymore.
I mentioned a month ago all teams were doin was waiting for December 15 to get here.
Now here comes the trade talk and now all the commenters here suddenly have Simmons’ trade value high again.
Love it! Tell’em JFK is still alive and they’ll believe it!
*site not sight
If you’re going to come off like a clown at least spell right
Some people have dyslexia.
Being pedantic about someone’s spelling – on a comment section of all places? Sheesh.
Pedantic spell is ‘sex daily’ for dislexya
Calm down sebch
I’m not sure how “trade talk has picked up” is contradictory to “Ben Simmons trade value is declining.” In fact, they’re entirely consistent. Morey is finally realizing he’s gonna get a modest return, which is what we all predicted, and that’s why interest has picked up.
Incorrect! Interest has picked up because 25% of the leagues players who were not trade eligible yesterday and today, will now be available on the 15th of December. Those extra 106 players who are now available is the reason for increased interest.
Jeebus how is it possible to be interested in basketball enough to spend time on a transactions blog and not understand how it works. You think teams just realized they could trade more guys on Dec 15? That they didn’t know that a couple months ago? They’ve been talking to the Sixers all the while (even if a trade can’t actually be finalized until next week). The only reason why things might have changed (assuming Woj’s post isn’t just the Sixers’ desperate attempt to dredge up an offer, any offer) is because Morey’s ask has gone down.
Heck, I’d trade the Sixers Lillard only if they’d agree to take McCollum as well (do those guys even score more then they give up nowadays?). Also what are they paid? 70 mill a year? Offer them those two for Simmons and Maxey, give the Sixers 5 hours to say yea or nay. Now you can build a new team around a versatile defensive big man guard combo and a young scorer.
You need to match salaries and this is comical.
Simmons and Tobias for Lillard and McCallum would at least bring me to the table, and salaries should match?
A unique trade proposal that would be equally awful for both teams. Those are hard to do! For the Sixers, they get two smalls who play big minutes and no defense, making guys like Maxey and Curry part timers at most. And they have no power forward anymore. The Blazers get an oldish power forward who won’t want to be there, and a non-shooting perimeter guy who wants to play in L.A. Great. If they want to trade Dame they can get a trove of picks and young guys that will jump start a rebuild.
@KezarMike
You wrote this same dumb take on blazersedge. The salaries need to match… Giving them “5 hours to say yay or nay” isn’t some big ultimatum that just makes people accept any dumb proposal.
Y’all would need to take Tobias Harris back to make the trade happen and the 76ers don’t want scrub CJ and wouldn’t give up Maxey in that deal.
I just want to see the blazers gutted to see Norman Powell freed. Quit making him play anything but the 2. He’s an efficient third option scorer who is good defensively when he’s actually asked to defend who he should.
The Blazers and Pacers both are not going anywhere. Might as well blow it up. Go full rebuild. They both have alot of talent on their rosters that would be useful to other teams
Raptors possibly? Siakim could be available with Barnes developing more quickly than expected. Fred played better in a combo ball handler lineup with Lowry. Ben, Fred, Trent, Barnes, Precious.
If the Sixers would take Siakam as a sole centerpiece, it might work, although Siakam and Harris is a really awkward fit in Philly. Maybe send Siakam somewhere else in a 3 team. Philly fans thinking they can get Van Vleet too are dreaming.
Dec 15 is the date when new signings (FA). Can be traded. It’s why there will be action. And Ben could be moved Finally. Sixers aren’t going anywhere without a Ben trade. So I’m sure they will be listening to offers.
I just think the best deal was at the draft. Moreyon has misjudged this. And now he’s overplaying his hand.
Better than the Knicks with Ben on the bench.
Can’t wait to see where he’s going to end up. Even though I’m not a fan since he got (and did not deserve) the rookie of the year award I hope his career gets back on track.
My guess is that it won’t be a contender and this is why. A Contender won’t give up as much value as a team looking to jump start their franchise with a player who can do that on the defensive end and with playmaking. I think a team that’s down is more likely to meet the Sixers needs.
So not the Warriors or bucks or Jazz or Suns but rather the Kings or the Pelicans or someone needing a boost. Just a guess. We shall see.
