Obi Toppin is in the NBA’s health and safety protocols and will miss at least Sunday’s game against Milwaukee, the Knicks announced (via Twitter).
The second-year forward is averaging 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 15.9 minutes per night in 26 games. He is coming off one of the best performances of his career, with 19 points and 10 rebounds Friday against the Raptors.
There’s no word on whether Toppin tested positive for the virus, but if he did he will miss at least 10 days unless he returns two consecutive negative tests a minimum of 24 hours apart.
Toppin is the first Knicks player this season to be sidelined due to COVID-19.
His PER is the best on the team. He needs to be playing 35 minutes a night when he gets back.
Would love to see that. His energy is infectious and it really sparks the team. Hopefully over the next few years, he develops a three point shot. He has all star potential.
Get well Obi1.

The most obvious is his stats are down. But if you watch the games. He’s playing more like two yrs ago than last yr. He was second team all NBA last yr. Why ? cause he played more in control and shared the ball. He also played better D. The whole team D has to get better. My personal opinion. Is there is more to this Kemba thing. Imo Randle wanted more control of ball. And Kemba is more ball dominant. The whole point of needing a starting PG. Was to take ball out of Randles hands. Most of the times he’s a ball stopper. And there is no offensive flow. I can’t believe this is what Thibs wants. Obi was drafted so we might move Randle. Then Randle just became elite. We all respect what Randle did last yr. But that was last yr…..
After 26 games last season, the Knicks were just 11-15 and had just traded for Derrick Rose, sparking a turnaround and 41-31 final record.
Today we are 12-14. So this is about the only solace. We can take from this yr so far.
