Jerami Grant hasn’t played in over a month, but he’s one of the hottest names on the trade market.
The Pistons forward is recovering from thumb surgery and he’s not expected to return until next month at the earliest.
Grant’s ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor intrigues many teams bound for the playoffs or trying to reach the postseason. Grant signed a three-year free agent contract with the Pistons prior to last season, spurning a chance to remain with the contending Nuggets, mainly due to his desire to have an expanded offensive role.
Grant averaged 22.8 PPG as the No. 1 option for one of the league’s worst teams in 2021/22. He was averaging 20.1 PPG this season prior to the injury.
He’ll have to accept a lesser offensive role again if he’s dealt but his ability to guard multiple positions will ensure that he’ll get plenty of playing time wherever he may wind up.
The Pistons don’t need to deal him – he’ll have plenty of value in the offseason as well, particularly since his contract expires after next season – but they should get a solid return for a combo forward in his prime if they move him by the Feb. 10 deadline. They’ll likely want at least one first-round pick along with a rotation piece for Grant.
Some of the teams who have been mentioned as potential suitors include the Wizards, Knicks, Trail Blazers, Lakers, Hawks, Bulls, Pacers and Grizzlies. The Knicks just added a young forward in Cam Reddish and the Blazers might go into rebuild mode with Damian Lillard sidelined by an injury during an already disappointing season. Supposedly, the Bulls are unwilling to part with Patrick Williams, which would dramatically reduce the chances of them acquiring Grant.
The surprising Grizzlies could enhance their chances of a deep postseason run by adding Grant to an already potent lineup. The Lakers could naturally use Grant’s versatility, though it might be harder for them to put together a suitable package. The floundering Hawks are in desperate need of a defensive boost, and the Wizards want to do everything they can to keep Bradley Beal happy. The Pacers are reportedly willing to deal some of their top players, including Myles Turner, Caris LeVert and perhaps Domantas Sabonis.
That leads us to our question of the day: Which playoff contender would benefit the most by trading for Jerami Grant and where do you think the versatile Pistons forward will wind up?

Good stats bat team kind of guy. On a good team he’s lucky to average 13ppg. He’s overrated as a defender.
Decent grammar bad take kind of guy.
Funny how Lakers are mentioned in this. LBJ makes the decisions there and will only accept crippled old timers. I wonder if he is forcing the Lakers to bring O’Neal and Wade out of retirement lol. Everyone knows LBJ want to be the center of the spot light and no young player is coming in.
Grant is not young. He is on his third team and has played varied roles. On OKC Grant was efficient, inside/outside and nearly invisible. On Denver he had to support the younger M.Porter and blew that popsycle stand.
4th team bud.
Personally i think Grant will end up with the Knicks and believe the reason the Knicks picked up Cam Reddish was to use him as part of the offer for Jerami Grant,
I posted my reasoning and what i a potential Knicks/Pistons reade might look like here: link to pistonsblog.com
Disagree. Grant amd Randle were already a murky pairing theoretically. Reddish fits much better younger, will come cheaper, and pairs well with Barret.
Pairs well with Barret well, how? Agree that pairing Randle & Grant is “murky”… Or risky… maybe Randle could use a shakeup. Not sure. Could Barret & Reddish use a rivalry to improve?
Nice article. Good reasoning.
Interesting
If Lakers want Grant 20 million a year, they need to trade Horton Tucker 9.5 million and 4 other players.
Pistons have 16 players. So after the deal, Pistons will waive 10 players?
I suddenly think about Westbrook.
Grant would like playing the 3 on MEM and MEM has some young bigs… Clarke, Tillman, Kyle Anderson, and two ’21 firsts… 2/3 Dillon Brooks, now ovettaken by Bane, would be good for pushing a losing team.
If all the Bulls have to give up is PatW, who is not a 4 so less useful then hoped for, they should offer for Grant; and Coby White should provide some interesting pairings for DET instead of being periphreal on CHI.
Blazers have some tasty-looking unprotected firsts coming up, with Lillard faltering; and they should try a forward like Grant before rebuilding.
Can’t see how Grant can help any contender, the definition of help is that you must be good, & Grant… well, he ain’t no good at all!
But he is good, Bogdonovich, Butler and a future protected 1st.
Mavericks.
I think the Mavericks go out and get Jerami Grant/Corey Joseph and Myles Turner
Theyll ship out Brunson and Dorian Finney Smith, Brunson to Pistons Finney Smith to Pacers? Along with picks and/or players.
I hope so. Brunson is tge player I want most for the Pistons.
Detroit probably will not trade him, but the Nets would benefit the most. His defensive presence and physicality to go with the Big 3?? Look out!!!!
Pistons are in a position to pass on any deal they don’t like. He can still be traded in the off season. Grant is exactly the type of player you add for a playoff run. Pistons get a 1st rounder & a player which was why they signed him to a three year contract. Adding young assets is the goal.
At this point, with their poor performance thus far and huge need for someone with Grant’s skill set…the Lakers need him the most. However, to get him they’d likely need to give up Horton-Tucker, Nunn and cash. To make this work for the Lakers I believe it would need to be a three-team deal that involves Westbrook.
