The Knicks are open to discussing several of their veteran players in trade talks ahead of the February 10 deadline, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst told Malika Andrews during an appearance on NBA Today on Thursday (video link).
“In conversations this week with teams, the Knicks have expressed a willingness to trade some of their veteran players,” Windhorst said. “That includes Kemba Walker, Evan Fournier, Alec Burks, guys like this.”
Walker, Fournier, and Burks all received multiyear contracts from the Knicks during the 2021 offseason. However, Walker has been considered available since he struggled out of the gate and temporarily fell out of the team’s rotation.
Fournier has also had an up-and-down season, and New York hasn’t played especially well when he’s on the court, registering a -5.1 net rating, compared to a +3.1 mark when he sits. Burks has been fairly solid, but Windhorst says the 23-26 Knicks are looking for a way to clear a logjam in their rotation and trying to find more effective lineup combinations.
“They traded for Cam Reddish two weeks ago and he is not getting minutes in the rotation from (head coach) Tom Thibodeau. And Derrick Rose is expected to come back from injury very soon here,” Windhorst said. “It’s just too crowded, and they’re not playing well with what they have. So they’re willing to change that mix, and they’ve related that.”
While Windhorst only mentions three players, it’s probably safe to assume that the Knicks would be willing to move others. Nerlens Noel and Mitchell Robinson are among the players whose names could surface in trade rumors before February 10. Even Julius Randle shouldn’t be viewed as a lock to be a Knick through the deadline, given his dip in production and his adversarial relationship with fans and reporters this year.
None of the contracts on New York’s books are too onerous to move, and the team controls a ton of extra second-round picks – as well as Dallas’ 2023 first-rounder (top-10 protected) – so the front office will have plenty of ammo to grease the wheels for potential trades if favorable opportunities arise.
I remember that Knick fan that was excited about getting Fournier, like he was the answer they needed to get over the hump and contend or something like that, LoL. His contract is looking pretty bad and hard to move right now.
I heard similar things when they got Kemba. “Ooo look who’s coming home…”
He couldn’t even play back-to-backs last year, and all of a sudden he is going to turn it around in NY? I thought the org was just doing Kemba a favor by letting him finish his career there, but now they wanna use him as a trade chip? Lol. They went from looking like contenders to looking like idiots.
Fournier is the answer. Unfortunately his D is suspect at times. To me that’s more as when he’s not involved in offense. And Mitch being out of shape all yr. Even now Mitch is not moving well laterally.
First off we are only 2 gms out of .500. And we are playing bad. So this is fixable. But it’s time to get on Thibs. The D and offensive chemistry is not what it was last yr. And supposedly we have better talent this yr.
No one in NY thought Kemba was the answer (aka the last 1 toKnow). We were glad he was coming home. And see what he’s got. His contract is only guaranteed for this yr.
All of you who talk Knicks all got shut up last yr. But you still don’t get us, this is a REBUILD. It’s Thibs second yr. Like we’re suppose to win something now. If you do not know don’t care why do you talk about them.
Knicks got plenty of time to make the playoffs. But we Real fans are more concerned about building a winner thru this rebuild. There are no short cuts in this.
The TD will tell us a lot.
Remember when Al was sure the Bulls will suck and be worse than Knicks , Hawks and that fournier and walker would lead the Knicks to the promised land
Knickerbockian logic….
I never said the Bulls sucked …. At least try telling the truth. Really only you do and this is why. I’ve always liked the Bulls talent. Go back and read the posts. You know you can actually do it. I always said they needed a real PG. Well they went after one finally. They surely must be listening to me.
He really is still producing around his career numbers. I don’t see his game as the problem as much as the offensive scheme
Something is not right in Knocksland. Is it the players, coach. Front office? Doesn’t seem like the roster a fit with the Coach.
Management and fans.. Remember the kid when porzingis was drafted, hes the average Knicks fan
The players are just average over achievers last year and fans thought they haf Patrick Ewing and John starks in the team
That kid must be your family. Cause you sound his age. We are just more expressive than avg fan. And certainly more knowledgeable.
You don’t overachieve and have best D in NBA. When yr before with sane players you were the worst. Why do clueless critics expose themselves constantly. You can be critical without hating. It’s the adult way sunny.
Rebuild time no.other way. But is this a Rebuild coach?
So Knicks have one decent(?) season, and MGT spend like drunken sailors .. Randle, Fournier,Noel,Walker who are not stars and the usual suspects. So MGT tries to pivot and notorious blockhead coach refuses to play younger prospects… Reddish, Grimes, McBride. Its ok, the sun will rise tomorrow and we’ll always be chuckling about the Knicks.
I wasn’t a fan of the offseason but “drunken sailors”? Most of the contracts were 2 years with a team option for the 3rd.
After this season, Fournier, Noel and Rose are essentially on expiring deals so they’re not horrendous, just ill-advised, IMO.
Correction … We’ll always be chuckling about the Knicks fan base.
It’s no ordinary Joe talking. It’s big city here lol. We take our ball seriously. NY gave the country basketball. Maybe one day you will actually learn that.
NY gave the country basketball..hey buddy, I’ve a bridge in Brooklyn you may want to …
Try reading for once. You’d be surprised at how much you can learn. Hey NY gave you baseball too sent two teams out west to teach you. Try and keep up Ordinary Joe.
Who is MGT?
Management?
Michael George Taylor, he works in the Knicks front office. He tries really hard but can’t stop bungling deals. He always has a little spaghetti sauce on his shirt from lunch.
Randle MIP and an all star. Noel got 8 mill only two yrs guaranteed. Fournier got 3 yrs guaranteed at 18 mill. Market value. Walker got 2 yrs 8.5 with second yr not fully guaranteed. This is all out there for you. Maybe you should do it yourself next time. All tradable contracts. For us cause we got plenty of picks. Knicks will still make the playoffs. Then what will your take be.
All great moves and still the Knicks suck…
You should thank covid that gave you your sole postseason appearance for a while
Just be around for playoffs. I promise I will go easy on you. Ignorance is the easiest to own lol.
Robinson for okogie and two 2nd rd picks.
There’s a difference in energy on the court. Players listed for availability in the article is accurate in my opinion. With the draft picks they have, moving some of the players mentioned shouldn’t be too difficult. Fournier would be my first move, followed by Walker. I think Randle has value and has showed his ceiling that someone like the Kings would be interested in a deal. Players I’d target if I were the Knicks would be Turner (Robinson+) and Halliburton (Randle) in deals with the opportunity of going after free agents in the off season.
I don’t think Randle can get you Haliburton, but with the Kings you never know… they are the Kings for a reason.
I guarantee you Randle doesn’t get you Haliburton, loll. What are you guys even talking about smh
A) As noted above it’s the Kings
B) As disappointing as Randle’s season has been … is Tyrese Halliburton a guaranteed future 1-time All Star? He’s a really nice prospect, but a lot of guys are at 21 years old. Only a small handful end up being as good as Randle, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t think Randle is close to a franchise dude. But he’s still a very good NBA player.
C) King could shed unwanted salary in the deal (they’d need to to match salary) which may be an incentive. Would you rather pay Hield or Randle?
Randle absolutely gets you Halliburton if the Kings are looking to advance. He plays a position they need (PF/4) and compliments what they lack. Meanwhile, the Kings are loaded in the backcourt and moving a player that has potential for a player that has a proven track record and the opportunity to move forward in progress is sensible. Randle’s off year is still better than most.
I’d give up Randle and Quickley for Haliburton. In a minute.
Haliburton, Barnes will get it done money wise. I even throw in a 2nd rd pick. We own Pistons pick. That’s a high valuable pick.
If you keep MiP Randle you need Brunson to share the rock …
A) Fournier is basically untradeable at this point, unless you’re getting a worse player on a worse contract. Nobody in their right minds is going to sign up for Evan Fournier for $80 million. That’s ludicrous.
B) The only move you’re making with Kemba is buying him out. His knees are cooked. Nobody is taking him on for $8 million, unless it’s part of a salary match in a bigger deal.
C) Not only does Randle have NO value whatsoever around the league, he actually has NEGATIVE value. Meaning you would have to attach assets if you wanted to unload his massive extension which kicks in next season. To think you could get actual value back for Randle, let a lone a premiere prospect like Tyrese Haliburton, is downright laughable and delusional on your part.
D) The Pacers aren’t taking Mitch clumsy azz Robinson in a deal for Turner, unless multiple 1st round picks are attached. Nobody values Robinson the way Knicks fans do, because he simply sucks at basketball.
E) What free agents are you going to sign in the off-season?? Players have been known to stay far, far away from the Knicks as long as James Dolan is the owner. New York doesn’t offer the warm weather and climate that west coast cities do. The last FAs you guys signed were Evan Fournier, and Alec Burks (LOL). So yeah, I don’t think that’s happening either
Basically, the Knicks are trash, and the assets they have are exactly that. ASSets.
Well said sir
Just to correct you Fournier and Alec and Noel Has a contract for this year and next only their third year is a team option . So they have some value for team wanting to rebuild and get salary cap . Only bad contract knicks has is Randle but he might get his game back if they can get a good pg . Robinson is a decent starting defensive center .
Exactly. People are missing the details of these contracts. All of these dudes are expiring contracts after the season w/ team options.
I think Fournier is trash BUT there are win-now teams (maybe some in LA?) that would probably be willing to take a chance on him, just because they won’t be able to get anyone better
A) Fournier’s contract after this season is only two years, $39 million, the fourth year is a team option. I stopped reading your post at this point because you either don’t know what his contract is or you’re purposely misrepresenting it. Fournier is definitely tradeable and you definitely wouldn’t have to take ‘a worse player on a worse contract’. That’s a ‘ludicrous’ assessment you made.
You know you can actually look his contract up. It’s only guaranteed for three yrs. Team option the 4th. And for 54 mill. We do t want to trade him yet. Even though we are playing bad now. It’s very fixable. Plus we got 5 #1 picks and 12 second rd picks in next three yrs. Very fixable
Lol if it was that easy to fix something you would have fixed it by now. There’s a reason an overachieving year is all you have to show the last 10 years and that’s that it’s not fixable
Rose and Thibs are in their second year. So stop showing us how ignorant you are. Young teams always show regression. It’s part of rebuilding. History means nothing to guys who are 20-23 yrs old. Just like you like to point out the obnoxious fans who blow it up after some success. You are exactly like them. By thrashing a successful year. You are the standard for a Genius on this board. I will make it my responsibility to school you on ball and Knicks.
Call Pelinka …
Everyone should be on the trading block
Celtics are also willing to discuss undesirable players like al , Richardson and Dennis Schroeder!
So here’s the solution Celtics trade horrorford, Richardson and Schroeder to the Knicks for Fournier, walker and burks ! Fair value and salaries Match both ways send that into the league office before nfl championship sunday
Im all in about trade some vets and give more minutes to the kids. Lets see what we have in Grimes, Reddish, Quickley etc
Noel
Burks
Rose
Gave them too long contracts for too much $ Brock A
Knicks can probably trade Kemba, Fournier and Burks for Westbrook. Lol
never going to happen but i will love to see that
Keep him away of the knicks
He can’t make them much worse. Also his contract expires next season. Get to start fresh.
Someone listened to the Lowe Post podcast this week. As they say, one man’s trash…
Westbrook is only second Laker to put up 30 in second half of gm. Other player is Kobe. Westbrook got plenty of gm. It’s the chemistry and his emotions that mess him up. He should be playing the 2. He can still be a playmaker there. And still have success. He puts up numbers wherever he goes. You think that’s by luck.
If I am the Mavs, all I want from Knicks are many first rounders for Brunson. No other player really entices me. Maybe Bullock for kemba and the mavs 2023 1st back (only asking for that first because kembas knees are non existent
Breaking news: I’m also open to trading my trash if anybody is interested in paying me for it :)
The Eddy Curry, Jared Jeffries and Jerome James times are back…
You mean the Knicks are doing Knicks things?
Not even close. Those teams were the worst Knicks teams of all time. This current team is already approaching the win total of those teams’ full season record.
Rose and Thibs second yr. They are half way thru and 4 gms below .500. And now we are suppose to blow it up. This what I mean about geniuses on here. At least know your facts. You know what’s amazing to me. How NY brings out the hater in sports. No care for real facts. No other city’s teams do this.
I’m just enjoying the rebuild and pray they keep at it. One year and 50 gms in.
Would Knicks take Westbrook for Walker and Fournier?
Need one more salary but they should take it. Gets them out of this mediocre team. By next year at least.
Knicks have other target
It has to be 4 players for Westbrook
Then no
Burks (Spears in Lowe pod)… Knicks can even turn RW @2023 TD for a 2nd rnd pick but i was open to trade Randle at first …
Fournier and a pick for Dragics expiring deal. Raps get the pick for taking on the contract, while also getting a useful ball handler and scorer off the bench in Fournier.
if a team trades for dragic he’s gonna want a buyout… he’s literally working out in the Heat’s facilities while under contract with the Raptors right now lol…. he’s not hiding where he wants to play.
Can Knicks fans stop believing other teams will stupidly take on their garbage. Stupid is as stupid does.
The Knicks are willing to trade the awful contracts they handed out? What a surprise.
Burks, Noel, and Walker are on expiring contracts next season and Fournier’s contract expires the season after that. If you think the contracts are ‘awful’, then you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Yeah the players are awful so that makes their contracts awful.
Yeah thats next season, no one will take any of those bums and their hefty cap hits without the Knicks adding a lot of value to go along with them. Say goodbye to Quickley, Barrett and any firsts the sorry Knicks might still have.
Typical Knicks fan overeating their own players.
Ha, so now we’re losing all of young guys and picks because….you don’t like Evan Fournier’s contract? Interesting cause and effect there
Yeah if you want someone to take a player who is overpaid and playing terribly, you need to attach value. No one is just going to help out the Knicks for fun.
Who are you referencing besides Fournier though? Burks and Rose have both played well. Noel has been injured but his contract is small dollars.
At worst Knicks will attach a future protected 1st or IQ to dump Fournier.
So where are “all” the rest of the picks + RJ going? Almost as if you have no idea who’s even on the Knicks and are just posting hyperbolic statements based on generalities….
If the contracts and the players weren’t awful u ou wouldn’t be trading them in the first place. Knicks fans are laughable
Hey Knicks fans….. imagine if MSG gave Pat Riley the power he wanted in 1995….. signed the entire South Florida region… muahahahhahahaha
Another genius ….. why don’t you get your facts right.
I’m open to winning the lottery probably won’t happen tho, just like this.
Being in the lottery next yr is not a bad thing. It only makes us better for next yr. Or gives us more ammo for a big trade. It’s not like we were guaranteed to win a playoff series this yr. I mean that’s what our goal may have been. But look at Warriors after TWO lottery yrs. All the geniuses are same ones who trashed them. I still see Knicks in playoffs. But their team D and PG and Randle situation has to change. Even if it means a big trade. Rose is coming back soon. So Kemba is not getting mins. Cam will get mins so a trade is coming. He’s due a contract at end of yr. We didn’t give up a pick to not play him and watch him walk. It’s a rebuild only true knowledge will tell you that. Rose knows it and Thibs knows it. It’s year TWO. And it ain’t over till it’s over ……. Get informed.
link to music.youtube.com
I doubt Knicks move Fournier. They won’t get value now. Unless he’s part of major trade. And I don’t see that coming.
Burkes has value, Noel has value, Mitch has value. Quickley has value, Grimes has value. We got picks up the Ying Yang. We got plenty to trade with. I just don’t see a major talent out there. I like Grant but we can get him at end of year. Sure would like Turner. Haliburton would be best trade to me. Kings would rather move Fox than Haliburton. If they take Randle, I take Fox. I know Rose is running the show. So it’ll be his decision on TD. Thibs will have input. But it will be a Rose move. Sure wouldn’t mind Ben in NY. But I don’t see that happening.
Randle , Quickley, 2nd rd pick >>>>>
For Haliburton, Barnes …..
