After Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that Ben Simmons appears to be “front and center” in the Kings‘ trade deadline plans and said the team is open to acquiring Tobias Harris along with Simmons, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer has published a report with more details on Sacramento’s pursuit of the Sixers‘ star.
According to Pompey, sources have repeatedly stated the Sixers aren’t interested in a deal headlined by De’Aaron Fox, who would be one of the Kings’ best trade chips.
One source tells Pompey the Kings have considered offering Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, Harrison Barnes, and two first-round picks in exchange for Simmons, Harris, and Matisse Thybulle. However, that source also said the Sixers aren’t interested in that package; a second source tells Pompey that Philadelphia has yet to receive a formal offer from Sacramento.
Pompey hears from that second source that the Kings and Sixers haven’t discussed Philadelphia’s younger players like Thybulle, whom the source classifies as borderline untouchable. However, sources tell Pompey that Sacramento has done background work on Thybulle, Isaiah Joe, and Paul Reed.
Even if the Kings were willing to put the aforementioned Haliburton/Hield/Barnes offer on the table, they’d need to either reroute Harris to a third team or add at least one more player – such as Tristan Thompson or Marvin Bagley III – to make the deal work financially.
The Kings and Sixers haven’t yet gained any “significant traction” on a deal, Pompey writes.
Here are a few more noteworthy tidbits from Pompey’s report:
- The Sixers have denied that they’re shopping Harris or want to attach him to a Simmons trade, but multiple teams and sources have told Pompey that’s the case.
- According to Pompey, before sending Cam Reddish to New York, the Hawks considered offering John Collins, Reddish, and a first-round pick for Simmons, but the Sixers brought Harris’ name into discussions, ending those talks.
- Pompey confirmed there are league executives who believe the Sixers would be comfortable hanging onto Simmons for the rest of the season. He also confirmed that the three-time All-Star is prepared to sit out the remainder of the season in that scenario.
- Sources tell Pompey that the 76ers are continuing to fine Simmons for the games he misses, but not for more minor infractions.
i’m shocked Morey won’t take that deal. He’s getting back a PG who looks like he can become a bonafide #2 option to Embiid and he’s on a rookie contract, along with 2 floor spacers to clear out paint for Embiid…and not to mention 2 1st round picks which can be used to acquire another player……just shocking to me
Morey is like that kid who takes a dump in the sandbox when the other kids don’t want to play with him, then tries to blame it on his little brother. So none of this is surprising…
Ah yes, we all remember those kids
This is the most specific scenario and I have never heard anything like this, I don’t think that’s what morey is like at all, possibly the worst analogy of all time
Actually, Simmons is like the dump in the sandbox.
Sounds like he’s a proud graduate of the Danny Ainge School of Overvalued Assets.
It’s a good deal for Philly. Can’t waste more of Joel’s career treading water and this will help him immensely
I feel like Fox makes more sense for Philly and Halliburton more sense for Sacramento if they want Simmons. Simmons and Fox seems like a disastrous combo.
Fox can get to the rim at will and average 25 ppg last year. Yes he’s having a down year this season but he’s also never played with an elite player.
If there’s no market for Fox, then I wonder about similar Sexton, a FA. He may be able to be re-signed at 4/$60 or so!
Yes
For salary matching purpose, Bagley and TT needs to be in the trade package with Halliburton
Man, Philly is still massively overvaluing Simmons. I guess they just intend to keep him forever.
Fox alone would be a great get. Add in 2 unprotected firsts and that’s easily a Philly tilted trade. (Even if the firsts are late rounders.)
I agree. If I were a GM I wouldn’t take Simmons with Harris attached for a t-Shirt and a bucket of popcorn.
Simmons is an excellent player despite the playoff issues last year, but you don’t even know if and when he will take the court. You can’t rush that either. I know teams will interview him before a trade, but would you trust him? If this is truly a mental health thing, then even Simmons cannot say for certain when he will be ready.
Then, to try to tack on a guy making almost $40m a year for the next three years that is basically a league average player now … are you serious?
What do actual Sixers fans think about this Ben Simmons fiasco?
Personally I don’t think they took him seriously at first, and they didn’t stay on top of it through the summer to see how he felt.Embiid,Harris and Green shouldn’t of waited til training camp was about to start to fly to Cali to talk to him.Embiid and Rivers should’ve been kissing his rear-end after both said things directed at him through the media. But I also take issue with him for quitting on the team the way he has.Embiid and Rivers might’ve been wrong for saying things through the media, but what they said were facts. He just might be a player that can’t handle a big market.
The dude agreed to a max contract. He got his money locked up and then said trade me.
Personally I don’t think anyone realized how big of a B he actually was. Everyone in sports gets criticized. Being afraid to shoot versus taking the shot showing either you can make it or you can’t and if you can’t going back to your old style. Like we all criticize Westbrick BC he’s so so so bad at shooting but at least he is willing. Once in a while he makes them and he has made them in the clutch. Like fans are annoyed that you can’t count on this dude that thinks he is the next LeBron BC he is afraid to do the most fundamental thing of the game.
Like look at Tim Tebow.. we all know he can’t pass as an NFL QB but he at least made attempts. And when it didn’t work he went back to being a fullback under center. But he still won that game vs the Steelers with a freaking pass. I’d like to close this comment out by thanking our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
(I’m not a Sixerite so not precise. But BS is not a talker so who knows what he’s thinking.)
Agree, BS is a B. But think he will recover •miraculously• if traded. I bet he still hurts from like 2018 when Embiid’s constant status-changes seemed to always get most of the attention.
Ben is a soft punk who would rather play Fortnite and mingle with Kardashians than honor the contract he signed with the Sixers. At this point I’d trade him for any warm body, except maybe the corpse of Al Horford.
Really sureall only because I didn’t think it would get to a complete standoff where he wasn’t playing. Its strange with your team being at the forefront of one of one of the weirdest labor disputes in recent history especially when the team is still playing well with Embiid playing at an MVP level. I have no doubt that if he was playing rn or if he didn’t make himself so toxic to trade him for a good package Sixers would be a lock for a top 3 seed. However, the potential of this team will be held back until he’s gone.
Another team will need to get involved and throw a star at the Sixer’s while getting a few of those pieces and a draft pick maybe.
I bet if Sac-Town go someone like the Bulls involved and they shipped LaVine then the Sixer’s would jump but the Bulls ain’t doing it but that is what the Sixer’s want.
They want a LaVine type player when Simmons ain’t really worth Fox in my personal opinion…
Last time Simmons played he folded under pressure in one of the more memorable foldings in recent league history, the bulls would not touch this offer, Lavine is worth more than simmons and Fox, so the scenario doesn’t even make sense, morey will hold onto Simmons until Harden wants to leave Brooklyn, and Philly will never win, teams are more than a player, De’aaron and Joel would be scary, wasting that much cap space on nothing is throwing away a year of Joel embiids prime because the gm is a dumb@$$
My point was the Sixer’s are hoping a GM is that stupid to send someone like LaVine in a three team trade and yet that ain’t happening.
Fox has more value than Simmons in my personal opinion and it would be stupid for Sac-Town to trade him for someone that refuses to play!
They’d be silly not to take that deal. Hali is a very good all round player, Hield is a great shooter who will be happy to play for a winning team, and Barnes has a ring and is a good leader
SAC’s FO (headed by a former Morey underling) is every bit a match for Morey on the deal constipation front. Maybe the guy won his fantasy league or is good in 2k, but he’s openly clueless on how to build or improve an NBA team. If SAC had a real GM, they would have offered up Fox back in November, and the deal would be done (Morey would have had no choice). Haliburton was (and is) a better fit with Simmons, in any event.
I have to like they way the Kings GM has targeted Thybulle, Joe & Reed. The pwnership has to make a call of such size, esp. of they do not want Harris, which maybe they should if it gets so complicated otherwise. Of course so is having three max players, if Fox be one.
If I’m morey I like the 2 firsts and haliburton but not interested. Hield is a overpaid bench player, Harrison a role player, Thompson a serial child producer, Fox replaces mad max? No thanks.

Kinda pathetic you make this comment (and like your own comment) in every post about Simmons.
Just watch how Toby gets traded showing what a bunch of crooked liars PHI are, no wonder Ben wants out, right?
No one wants to work for a bunch of dishonest people, someone must tell Morey that!
He is too inconsistent for them to have him as the 2nd piece. Paid like an All Star but 9 games under 15 points? That’s a quarter of the games he’s played. Just not a good use of what 38M? Underperforming leads to being traded.
So Ben wants out because they are liars? Did you watch the playoffs last year?
The dude quit.
Morey is an A$$. You aren’t getting what “YOU” want. Move on and quit dragging this team down.
Collins, Reddish and a 1st? I think I would have done that deal. I get why they didn’t BC it’s like what do you do with Harris at that point? Do you call up Houston and say hey here’s Harris for Wall or LAL for Westbrick? BC you’d have to include Daniel Green to make the money work.
I wouldn’t give up Thybulle in that Kings trade tho, like Thybulle could net them a different package if they dealt him with Captain Kork and Daniel Green. I am down for dealing Thybulle BC he hasn’t improved offensively, but other teams covet his defense. So is a kings 1st better than keeping him or a 15-17m player they could trade for when packaging with those 2 aforementioned clowns.
You Keep Thybulle. Cheap and he provides elite defense while on the court.
I know he doesnt score a lot but also is preventing opponents from scoring.
You don’t trade Thybulle. Especially if your moving Simmons.
2007-2008 Championship Celtics. This player played 77 games. 30mpg. 9.3 fg attempts a game. .2 3s attempted. 4.2 rbs 5.2 ast 1.7 stls his second year in the league. Bens second year. 81 games. 33.7 mpg 12.3 fga .1 3pts 8.1 rbs 8.2 ast 1.7 stls. Rondo didn’t ever get hate for his lack of shooting early in his career and Ben is a better defender. Everyone saying he’s worth nothing because of one bad year and a polarizingly terrible playoffs, chill. It wasn’t even that bad of a year for him. He has value in his game yes. But his attitude definitely needs readjusted. Sorry for the numbers…it reads really bad in comments compared to a graph.
I don’t think Ben’s attitude will ever change.
He just wants to play, get paid and enjoy life. Cool. Do it elsewhere. We would like to win here.
Some guys have “it”. He doesn’t.
Simmons wins, as does/did Rondo. (Good supporting cast present)
Halliburton, Hield, and Barnes and two first’s for Simmons, Tobias, Paul and Redd.
still hoping the Raptors try for Simmons… They are going nowhere with the current roster. Freddie is more a 2 guard than point. Siakam clogs up the entire offense. OJ development has stalled. They should have given Masai the GM an incentive loaded contract.
Now he gets 10 million and does not have to do anything but scout Africa. 1 million incentive to make playoffs, 1 million more every playoff round they win.
I think the Kings end up sending Fox or another package enticing enough to a third team that has an all star to send to Philly;
Philly gets: Sabonis + Warren
Kings get: Simmons + Brissett
Pacers get: Fox + pick or a package of Barnes/Bagley/Metu/Reed + a boatload of picks from both teams
Why would Philly want Embiid & Sabonis?
They want an allstar. Sabonis is one of the few they could realistically get. Maybe they’re better off waiting till the offseason, Harden or Beal might be available by then
