Although the Nets are trying to find a new home for veteran forward/center Paul Millsap, they don’t want to just give him away for free or attach an asset to move him, Michael Scotto said on the latest episode of the HoopsHype Podcast.
According to Scotto, Brooklyn wants some sort of asset in exchange for Millsap, such as a veteran who can contribute right away or a future second-round pick. It remains to be seen whether any team will meet that asking price for a player who turns 37 on deadline day and has been ineffective in his limited minutes this season.
Here’s more on the Nets from Scotto:
- Scotto suggests that Bruce Brown and Jevon Carter are among the other Nets to keep an eye on as possible trade candidates. Brown’s role has fluctuated this season, while Carter has fallen out of the rotation in recent weeks and is believed to be available.
- Although the Nets have received inquiries on players like Joe Harris and Nic Claxton, they’re unlikely to be moved unless Brooklyn can land an impact player in return, according to Scotto. As we relayed earlier, the Cavaliers are reportedly among the teams with interest in Harris.
- If the Nets get through the trade deadline with an open roster spot or two, rookie Kessler Edwards will be a strong candidate for a promotion to the 15-man roster, per Scotto. Edwards has started Brooklyn’s last eight games and is averaging over 32 minutes during that stretch, but would be ineligible for the playoffs if he remains on his current two-way contract.
Paul Millsap for DeAndre Jordan?
Paul Millsap for Rodney Hood?
Paul Millsap for Troy Brown Jr ?
Paul Millsap for Bruno Fernando?
Surely there’s lots of teams with some interest.
No no no and no
Exactly. None really make since
None make sense for Brooklyn but they want to move him and not give up picks or anything.
But I think the Lakers, Bucks, Bulls and Celtics could all use Millsap as a depth piece.
Particularly the Bulls
I would move Harris before people remember how bad he was in the playoffs. Patty Mills can fill that role now. Get someone big to take min at the 5 from KD.
Harden stuff will sort itself out. He’ll prob go down for 3, 4 weeks with an injury a little later this season and get his needed break while NY caves and Kyrie can play home games again.
Anyone worrying about the Nets or frankly any team right now needs to remember we’re not even at the all star break.
Paul Millsap for Markieff Morris
Buy out market coming no need to trade any assets for a minimum veteran contract contenders are just waiting to see who those players are everyone going to just cut those vet’s that don’t contribute
Lakers have a few themselves to get rid of
Milsap is finished. Put a fork in him.
BKN isn’t necessarily looking for a player or pick, just some team that will take him, and that he’s willing to go to, without that team sending any salary back. A minimum contract doesn’t need to be matched, so its Millsap for nothing (above nominal).
Probably the standard menu: 2nd round pick protected 1-55, foreign stash, or $110,000. The Nets actually picked up a stash (Milutinov, I believe) this past off-season who had been a Spurs pick from when Marks was the assistant GM there. He’s one of the top bigs in Europe now but has another year or two left on his contract.
