A report earlier this week stated that the Rockets appear increasingly likely to hang onto Eric Gordon through this season’s trade deadline, but Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report hears that Houston – in discussions with rival teams – has conveyed confidence about receiving a first-round pick in exchange for Gordon.
Unless the pick is heavily protected or they’d have to take a really bad contract or two back in return, it’s hard to imagine the Rockets would turn down the opportunity to acquire a first-rounder for the 33-year-old guard, who doesn’t fit the their rebuild timeline.
While there may have been some truth to The Athletic’s report about the Rockets’ desire to keep Gordon for his leadership abilities, I suspect the team is posturing at least to some extent in an effort to get teams to increase their offers.
Here’s more on the Rockets:
- An earlier report on Christian Wood linked him to the Heat, stating that Miami has been one of the most “persistent” teams engaging with Houston in conversations about Wood. Fischer confirms the Heat have been frequently mentioned recently as a potential suitor for the big man.
- According to Fischer, word of a possible Wood/Duncan Robinson framework has circulated around the league, but the Rockets would certainly require a far greater return for their leading scorer, rebounder, and shot-blocker, who is on a very team-friendly contract (Wood will earn $13.7MM this season and $14.3MM in 2022/23).
- Rockets center Daniel Theis has been generating significant interest, Fischer reports, naming the Hornets, Bucks, and Raptors as teams that have inquired on the big man. Fischer also confirms that the Celtics have checked in on Theis, as previously reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
why do the heat even need Wood
they don’t… but a package of Duncan and Gabe Vincent should be enough for the rockets… that being said.. they don’t need him lol
There’s no shot that Robinson and Vincent is even in the ballpark. The Rockets want picks. Not a guy that’s older than Wood (with a huge contract) and a backup guard.
Not sure Gordon is the leader or role model type. He’s kind of picky and solo and head-down. No? Sounds like the HOU FO is reaching, trying to build value for his trade return.
Like I said, the Cavs situation would benefit from a year of Young Bull replacement… also David Nwaba wing skills, if only to have someone to compare Okoro to besides Dean Wade. Actually Tate is better then Nwaba but Tate is more desired… may take a third team… Rox have much young talent… and Augustin lol
I dont get how the Heat would get Wood…they dont have anyone they can move making above the minimum to match salaries. Obviously, you wouldnt move Duncan Robinson for that. They do need a floor spacing big, preferably someone that can guard certain other mobile/shooting bigs, like Portis, but I dont think they can swing a deal like this, and losing Duncan Robinson isnt a smart move
I don’t get why the Rockets would want Robinson unless it’s to flip him for someone else.
duncan and gabe vincent
Duncan Robinson started off shooting poorly in the first 10-15 games, but has been good since. In his last 33 games, he is shooting over 39% from 3 and scoring 13 a game, and in his last 23 games, he is shooting 42% from 3 on 14 points, and he has been better than he ever has been. People have acted like he has been slumping all year…
I’d give up up Robinson for Wood.
Wood can shoot it well, rebound well and would work well next to Bam.
To defend Giannis too
I bet you wood. The rockets on the other hand would hang up before you can say “wait!”
I can’t see the rockets taking that deal, wood is a 20 and 10 big who’s value couldn’t be higher. Dunc, with the exception of the last few games is playing poor this season. Unless a 3rd team jumps in I can’t see them taking him for wood at all. However, this is the rockets they do like a bad trade.
I was thinking the same. First rounder and league minimum player going to Houston and Dunc and Tate or someone similar going to third team, Wood going to Miami.
I can’t see them parting with Tate, he’s a good presence on and off court. I also doubt they’d move KJ Martin or the 21 rookies. Everyone else I’m sure is fair game, even KPJ for the right offer.
