The Rockets are seeking a first-round pick in any trade involving veteran shooting guard Eric Gordon, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
According to Scotto, multiple playoff-caliber teams are monitoring Gordon. A report last month stated that the 33-year-old is on the Knicks’ radar.
Through 38 games (29.3 MPG), Gordon is having his best season as a shooter, establishing new career highs in FG% (.505) and 3PT% (.455). He has averaged 14.9 PPG and 3.3 APG for the rebuilding Rockets.
Although Gordon’s stats are impressive, it will still be a challenge for Houston to land a first-rounder for him unless the pick is heavily protected or the deal requires the Rockets to take back an unwanted multiyear contract.
Gordon’s age and injury history diminish his value, and his current shooting percentages likely aren’t sustainable — he shot .410/.355/.807 during his first five seasons in Houston. His contract also isn’t especially team-friendly. He’s making $18.2MM this season, $19.6MM in 2022/23, and $20.9MM in ’23/24, though that final year is non-guaranteed, making the deal a more palatable investment.
Gordon is one of several Rockets veterans expected to be on the trade block in advance of the February 10 deadline. Daniel Theis, D.J. Augustin, John Wall, and Christian Wood are among the team’s other trade candidates, though Wall’s gigantic contract will likely ensure he stays put, and Houston would require a substantial return to move Wood.
E Gordon

Walker, Burks and top 20 protected First
Two teams you should not listen to their asking price: 76ers and Rockets
Oladipo was a damaged good last year.
Rockets asking price from Knicks is one young good player and at least two future first round picks.
What does it mean for “at least two future first round picks”?
lottery picks = 2
non lottery first round picks = 3
Conclusion: Rockets wanted 1 young good player and 3 Firsts for Oladipo last year.
So you say that you shouldn’t listen to the Rockets asking price for Gordon, which is a first rounder according to this article, then say it’s actually two firsts and a ‘young good player’ (based on what?), then suggest the Knicks offer a first rounder plus Walker and Burks. What?
Not sure he knows what he’s saying. Then again…
Knicks got Rose for a second rounder. Same, at best, applies for Gordon.
Pass…he is having an atypical shooting season and is 3 years on the wrong side of 30. While his WS/48 is comparable to a mid to late first round draftee, he does not have a draftee’s upside. Additionally, you are going to pay $10-15 million more for his production than a comparable first rounder.
Sillivan…you’re fired!
Buckman,
Do you know what is the meaning of Knicks top 20 protected First round pick?
Fake First
I am deeper than most people
Horton Tucker and Nunn for Wood
Tucker must be great
Tucker, Doncic and Morant
Same age same salary
Are you a laker bot today?
That’s ridiculous lol
What? Lol
He’s 33 and not really that good. At least not good enough for a first rounder.
Rockets phones remain silent.
If they expect a first, another boat anchor Wall type contract is coming with it.
Eric Gordon & David Nwaba for Will Barton, Fecundo Campazzo and a low first.
I suspect Gordon is taking it easy, which is wise. His team does not want him, and whoever pays for him will want him sharp not tired, probably quickly needed.
His D stats are his worst ever, but his fouling (1.3 per 36′, career 2.1) is his lowest ever. His 46%3 for a low first should get HOU a bite, once teams get a clearer picture of their season’s arc.
Will Barton makes near the same amount for the next 1.5 years but has only played in 17 of 43 playoff games the last three years… it’s not just his problem that he missed out— he was needed. I do not trust this non-availability will go away. He did fine the first 12 games this year(13.3 GmSc) then below average since.
I suspect he would make an ideal sparring opponent for J.Green in Houston, being able to get rowdy & physical with him, not holding back like Gotdon may be. HOU would get about as high a first from DEN as anyone, if necessary, and save about as much $ as they could under matching rules (~2.2m put of a max \~7.2m).
I think by including a DEN first, DEN cpuld expect one of HOU’s very young prospects, like David Nwaba 6-5 defender, PER16, third string.
Include Campazzo, trade still fits, by ~3.4m. He has been taking like he’s on the block. Campazzo would finally be a true distributing PG for HOU. Armoni Brooks has way too many minutes for them.
But would DEN miss that quality? Gordon lists as 6-3, & not in his prime. Dozier & Austin have been slumping. The other guards are smaller. I have always liked Davon Reed 6-5, a decent PER 12 in limited time. I think I posted this switch before.
*Meant DEN missing Barton’s size, not Fecu’s passing. Adding Nwaba would address that. DEN already has Monte Morris.
What is this Oprah? You get a 1st, You get a 1st.
Suns. Can never have enough shooting
Suns get Gordon for 6th man scoring.
Rockets get Kaminsky, Saric, Payton, Nader for salary matching and 2024 1st round pick top 5 protected.
Good idea
Rockets would demand Suns 2025 pick, not 2024
Suns won’t be good in 2025 because of luxury tax
Rockets are probably going to want some expiring contracts in return. They already feel they have a young core started and will continue to want to build through the draft.
They probably won’t get a first for Gordon. Two second rounders most likely. Maybe get a young player.
Who cares what they’re asking for? Gordon is not wanted by HOU, but is still on their roster. So, whatever they’re asking for, it’s too high.
Gordon would be a fine pick-up for a lot of teams but a 1st rounder is a little bit steep. It would have to be pretty protected.
A first is probably what they will get even though this season is an outlier for Gordon. Plus, he’s been hurt a lot.
But it’s definitely going to be very late and/or have a lot of protections. So it may not even end up a first in the end.
2 firsts for Turner or LeVert seems a bit low… 1 for Gordon seems like daylight robbery, right?
Who thinks 45% 3pt shooting will hold up?
Thing is…if your a GM trying to improve your team, who’s available?
– M.Turner
– J.Grant
– C.Wood
– E.Gordon
You pay a 1st pick or someone else will
Cleveland Cavs own Hou 2022 2nd RD pick which projects to be early 30s.. basically a late 1st. Pkg that w expiring Rubio Contract & that is best offer Hou Will get. Gettinging 20mil off books for off-season during rebuild allows flexibility to take on bad deals for picks or assets like OKC. Rockets want to lose to have best chance at high 1st Rd pick. Playing Gordon more leads to more Hou wins. I think Cleveland targets better younger talent w Rubios expiring & that fut 2nd round pick from Hou in 22. Also they got SAS 2nd round pick. Early 2nd Rd picks is where u can find gems. D. Green.. K. Middleto. N Jokic. .
That’s where scouting is critical..
