Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will miss multiple weeks after suffering a right ankle sprain on Friday against the Pacers, the team announced today. Gilgeous-Alexander will be reevaluated after the All-Star break, which lasts from February 18-23.
In 43 games this season, the Thunder’s point guard averaged 22.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per contest, shooting 42% from the floor and 28% from three-point range. Each of those averages (with the exception of rebounding) are down from last season, but the 23-year-old remains the go-to option on his team.
The Thunder are 0-5 in games that Gilgeous-Alexander hasn’t played this season. One of those losses came against Memphis in a record-setting fashion — OKC was outscored by 73 points, the largest margin of defeat in NBA history. That contest was played in early December on the road.
With Gilgeous-Alexander on the shelf, expect guards Ty Jerome and Theo Maledon to receive more playing time. Oklahoma City owns the second-worst record in the West at 14-34, leading the Rockets by half a game.
I’m looking to see what Tre Mann does in SGA’s absence more than anyone tbh… on another note my boy Bazley continues to disappoint me. He’s way too small to be starting at the 4 in the NBA & his bad decision making in OT last night cost his squad a W. OKC badly needs to get a top3 pick in this draft bc they have to concentrate on upgrading their frontcourt this summer
Not very much.
Hey, just like last year SGA suddenly has an injury . Let the tank begin!
Yup, it stinks but it’s a necessary evil to ensure we get a top 5 pick. This draft is going to be strong by early indications. Looks like a lot of future stars could be available. Add into it the thunder have 3 first round picks and maybe even 2 lottery picks if the clippers keep stinking and the thunder are positioning themselves perfectly.
Tank away thunder.
Very interesting to see Lou and Gid without him
I agree, SGA and Giddey have same skills set and having Dort as starting 2 guard may be OKC’s future. Siakam would work for OKC.
No it won’t be. Will he unwatchable
Dang I wanted SGA to be an all star this year
SGA has an invisible injury to sit out the season, OKC start their tank towards the lottery. They’re so predictable.
I just worry, if he is injured so be it. But sitting a developing star who I see as an obvious future AS can’t help his development at all. They’ll do the same with Giddey next year. They’re gluttons for the lottery.
Focus on growing the obviously talented guys you already have instead of trying for higher picks. Heck they have like 400 picks over the next 3 years anyway!
