The Hawks and Kings are viewed as “strong” suitors for Pistons forward Jerami Grant, sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Grant is one of the hottest names on the trade market, with the Lakers, Trail Blazers, Knicks, Jazz, Wizards, Celtics, Pacers and Timberwolves also interested in the 27-year-old.
Grant’s agents reportedly provided a list of preferred destinations to Detroit’s front office in the event of a trade. While the interest in Grant’s services is high, it’s still no sure thing that the Pistons move one of their top players, as Grant is under contract through next season.
In 21 games this season (33.2 MPG), Grant is averaging 20.1 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1.1 SPG and 1.1 BPG. He was cleared for on-court work earlier this month in his recovery from thumb surgery, but then was placed in the league’s health and safety protocols.
Fischer also says the Hawks are more actively shopping John Collins, according to league sources. Collins is in the first year of a five-year, $125MM contract signed last summer. The 24-year-old has been an efficient three-level scorer throughout his career, and this season is no exception. He’s averaging 17.0 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.0 APG and 1.1 BPG on .537/.426/.797 shooting. The 42.6% mark from deep is a career-high.
I don’t understand why so many people so eagerly want to see John Collins traded. The connection between Trae Young and John Collins is electric. They’re the only two “untouchable” players on the Hawks roster, imo. Atlanta needs perimeter defense, not trading their star 4 for an older star-ish 4.
Agree, Id have Collins as the most untouchable chip if I was ATL, and that even includes Trae (tho Trae will not move)
There’s probably a Smart (Marcus) trade they can make happen today that makes a whole lotta sense
Rumor has it that that like Cam Collins himself would like to be traded. Have to start wondering about what up with Atlanta if there players keep asking for trades.
Where did you hear that? I know there were rumors that made it appear as if that might be the case, but in following up on them it’s not the sense I got. It just seemed like he was frustrated with the overall lack of productivity/flow of the offense as well as the team’s previous struggles
That said, no one knew Cam wanted to be traded until the deal went down so it’s not out of the question. And it’s conceivable some might not want to play with a guy like Trae, irrespective of his talent.
Collins is not happy there. So in this player led NBA, he will get what he wants
Agreed. Their continued dissatisfaction with Collins makes no sense. He must have done something with someone’s partner haha.
So dissatisfied they gave him 100 million dollars?
Especially considering they got what they wanted this summer in avoiding paying him the max. He’s definitely played to his contract this year, so far.
And I definitely don’t get trying to move him for Jerami Grant, which seems implied here. Collins is the better player IMO.
Could see a 3 team trade with grant and McCollum
Grant
20 points a game
Attractive
Collins
43% from the three
Attractive
Trade value goes up day by day
Need to Set up new asking price
Grant’s FG%/3 PT%/TS% the last five years:
2017-18: .535/.291/.607
2018-19: .497/.392/.592
2019-20: .478/.389/.591
2020-21: .429/.350/.556
2021-22: .414/.331/.540
Dropping like a rock, as are his WS/48, and his VORP is not great, either. He’s still a good player, but I would not give up much for him, especially when he is not interested in being the 2nd or 3rd option and wants to be a ‘star’.
Grant is scoring based on volume due to playing on a team that has no other viable options. As you showed, the statistics are evidence. He’s best suited for coming off the bench like he did for a period in Denver. He’s good, but his ceiling isn’t that high.
Gtant can do what a team needs of him. His stats are high where that is his intended focus. His “attitude” was in being overtaken in coddling by MPorterJr. A valuable add for starting & fullfilling his role, as long as it’s not one of those “big x” FO prayers… that would be risky but not impossible.
Yup. Grand’s grabbing a lot of headlines because the supply/demand ratio of the TD is all out of whack due to the play-in again.
When 26 teams are trying to make “a run” and there are only 30 teams in the league, I guess it means the best player on those 4 crappy teams is going to be a serious benefactor of inflation.
My guess is whoever gets Grant will be disappointed. Especially if they’re giving up a player as good as Collins for him.
Collins is their best trade chip. Plus Okongwu will be better imo. Though Grant makes no sense since he’s best at the 3. And Hawks are loaded there.
Simmons would work in Atlanta. But Moreyon is not trading him there. Atlanta is going to make a trade. They have the assets to go after a major trade. But will they and who will they go after. I think CJ can be had at a reasonable price. Well I guess we’ll see where they go.
CJ + Trae can’t be better than CJ + Lillard, their problem is defense, they shouldn’t trade for CJ.
Come to NY Jerami, please…….
Still can’t tell us which teams are on Grants list…
Detroit.
Shanghai, where he can be the #1 option and score 60 per game.
We’ve not been granted the privilege
Grant prolly worries about being assigned a meager role.
I am getting so tired of seeing a new city pop up for Grant every other day. I know that’s the general purpose for this page (DUH) but DAMN! In all honesty I don’t think Weaver trades him at all. I think he ends up getting an extension next season when hopefully the Pistons are conceivably competitive again. And for those who are showing his offensive stats dropping off the last few years, he is much more than just a scrub who can put the ball in the hole. Dude is legit!
One of best 2way players in NBA. And they don’t take into account the D he gets. Grant is a team player and could fit on any team. Imo Pistons should move him now. And just keep going with the rebuild. Moving him assures them a high pick. And there are plenty of good bigs in this draft. Especially 4s, what they need most.
2way players are best players in NBA.
I mean you can’t trade a young All-Star caliber player like JC, you will never get the value back!
What ATL must do is play more for him, he must score 20+ per night, to be real helpful to the team!
Man, one keeps hearing about Grant like if he was a star or even a decent player, he can’t even crack the starting 5 in a competitive team, in a good team he will be in the bench as allegedly he can defend… but can’t shoot, score, rebound or pass… Grant is gotta be the most hyped up player in a long time, right?
Still like the idea of the hawks pushing for Brandon Ingram. Think he’s a perfect fit.
The deal:
Brandon Ingram and Nickeil Alexander-Walker for Bogi Bogdanovic, DeAndre Hunter, Onyeka Okungwu and a protected first round pick.
Sounds like a lot to give up from Atlanta’s perspective but they need to make a big trade to turn their season around. Bogi is having a down season (12/4/2, career low FG% and 3P%), Hunter has had two big injuries and Okungwu doesn’t get much minutes.
Form a big 3, Trae Ingram and Collins, Capela and Hueter the other starters. Off the bench still have Wright, Cooper/Mays, NAW, Lou Will, Johnson, Knox, Gallo and Deing. Not to mention another open roster spot from the trade.
From the Pelicans perspective, you don’t want to lose Ingram but you kinda have to. If Zion stays I don’t think they are a good fit and if Zion wants out your going to have to trade Ingram in a rebuild either way. Bogi gives you a starter at either SG or SF and is a smart shooter. Hunter if he can stay for is a very solid young player. Okungwu if you develop him looks promising and you also get a first round pick. Your not going to receive a better package unless you want to try for Ben Simmons but I can’t see that happening
I’d take Hunter over Ingram by himself, never mind giving up O and a 1. Hard pass on that one.
Hunter is always injured tho.
Ingram is an all star caliber player.
Hunter in his best season played 23 games and put up 16-4-2, Ingram put up 16-5-4 in his second worst season. In his best he put up 24-6-4.
No way anyone takes Hunter over Ingram unless they are mentally unwell.
A okungwu, zion front court would be intriguing though small. They’d be able to switch anything though but would struggle against the jokics of the west.
Small but really promising….
How many Jokic’s are there? I can only count one
I suspect Jokavic translates the same as Jokic.
(All those Russian-style surname suffixes should be dropped. Does anyone remember the name of any of the great Russian figure skaters of late?— the current #1 could go as Alex True if she wanted, by dropping a few pointless letters at the end, and nobody would forget her. As it is, she will come & go in Western anonymity like the others.)
Nobody was talking about Russian figure skaters or suffixes bro but you do you.
Trade Collins ? The guy plays both side of the court and plays with heart.
If the HAWKS want to get rid of Collins that bad, how about they send him home to the beach ……. Collins for Robinson/Okpala/Yurt & pick/s.
HAWKS get deeper, more shooting. HEAT load-up some more, clear-up that forward logjam – more PT for Strus and elevate Caleb Martin.
Collins doesn’t want to play there any more. Maybe he doesn’t fit in with the guys on the team or wants to move cities. He doesn’t defend well and Atlanta think Grant is an answer, so wouldn’t surprise me to see the Hawks and Pistons swap these guys. Doesn’t do much for either team though.
Funny thing about Pistons… their best-performing by PER are their vets… Lyles, Olynyk, Joseph, Mcgruder.
A Grant-Collins trade would open the door more for Saddiq in DET and Collins is smarter. I would have thought ATL could have used Grant’s effort, although so many are denying Grant has that.
