Nets center Andre Drummond expressed confidence that his new team can win the championship this season, as relayed by Brian Lewis of the New York Post (Twitter link). Drummond was one of three players traded to Brooklyn on Thursday, joining teammates Ben Simmons and Seth Curry.
“We have a great roster,” Drummond said. “I think when everybody’s healthy and and able to play all together, I think we’re very scary down the stretch in the playoffs. I think this team is a championship team. Absolutely.”
Brooklyn added Simmons, Curry and Drummond to a core that already includes Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Joe Harris, Patty Mills, LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin. The team has lost 10 games in a row, however, dealing with injuries and the part-time availability of Irving.
There’s more from the Atlantic Division:
- Knicks guard RJ Barrett will miss the club’s game against the Blazers on Saturday, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News tweets. Barrett is dealing with a sprained ankle. This will be the second straight game he’s missed.
- Blake Murphy of Sportsnet examines the Raptors‘ short-term and long-term outlook after the trade deadline. Toronto traded for veteran forward Thaddeus Young this week, sending away a package headlined by Goran Dragic. The team has won eight straight games and currently holds the No. 6 spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
- Nets head coach Steve Nash released two positive injury updates on Saturday, Brian Lewis of the New York Post relays (via Twitter). Durant (sprained MCL) has been doing on-court work for roughly one week, while Aldridge’s return from an ankle injury is days away, not weeks.
Drummond is right. But it’s going to take 30 gms. Drummond brings size and rebounding. Sorely needed by Nets. And of course it would be great if NY lifts its mandate. Which could happen. Or Kyrie can just get his shot. Ben did and was skeptical at first.
Isnt ben Simmons unvaccinated? I’m not sure if he is or isnt but I saw a comment elsewhere saying he wasn’t, which will really hurt the nets in the playoffs. Imagine if they face the raptors in the eastern conference or the warriors in the finals, they wouldn’t have simmins or Irving for the entire series.

He was anti at first. But he did get it.
He wasn’t “anti”, he just wasn’t vaccinated at first, like all people lol
The article and multiple articles. Used the word “changed his stance”. It goes as far back as the beginning. All NBA players have had access to vaccinate before public. He chose not to. I’d say after almost two yrs. THATS CHANGING YOUR STANCE …….. not like all people lol

Yeah, from everything I’ve heard and read, Ben was very hesitant about the vaccine at first, but he’s since gone ahead and gotten it.
If healthy, along with Claxton, that is really one awesome 10-man rotation, and it seems by trading away Harden they were able to acquire three players which really filled alot of their weaknesses.
No
I put Irving in the “injury list”
Nets are doomed
You forgot to.mention Cam Thomas or have you not been watching the Nets play for the last month?
RJ being hurt. Opens up opportunities on Knicks. Cam better be ready. He looked good last gm. Gotta beat Blazers ….. please don’t
Sorry for your loss Al. Yikes
How can you include Cryree Irving as a team member. Playing 30% of the games. Media blasting Harden but now you have 2 of the biggest me players in NBA history on the same team. Head Case Cryree and even bigger baby Simmons. Add in Durant who is as fragile ego wise and you have quite a team of whiners.
