There appears to be “a wave of momentum” toward the Celtics completing a Dennis Schröder trade in advance of the February 10 trade deadline, writes Jared Weiss of The Athletic.
In the latest HoopsHype Podcast, Michael Scotto singled out the Bulls as a team to watch for Schröder, noting that Chicago could use some backcourt help with Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso sidelined.
Both Scotto and Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report mentioned a possible package of Troy Brown Jr. and a second-round pick in exchange for Schröder, with Fischer suggesting that framework has been circulating around the league.
Here’s more on the Celtics:
- The Celtics explored a possible deal that would’ve sent Josh Richardson and either Romeo Langford or Aaron Nesmith to the Timberwolves in exchange for Malik Beasley, according to Jared Weiss and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. Minnesota, right up against the tax and hoping to maintain roster flexibility for bigger deadline moves, wasn’t interested at the time, The Athletic’s duo says.
- Marcus Smart‘s name has come up recently as a possible target for the Timberwolves, especially if they move Patrick Beverley in another deal, writes Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Weiss suggests the Celtics could probably move Smart for an expiring contract and a first-round pick right now if they wanted to, but adds that “there’s a lot more that goes into moving him beyond finding matching value.”
- Celtics big man Robert Williams is believed to be on the Raptors‘ list of potential targets as they explore the market for a center, per Fischer. According to Weiss, Boston appears to be rebuffing interest in Williams for now, but anyone on the roster outside of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown could theoretically be had.
- As we relayed earlier this morning, Richardson is considered a possible trade target for Utah.
As a Celtics fan, hard pass on these Twolves deals…
garbage deals that dont move the needle for the Celtics.
Remember how so many people thought signing Rob Williams to a 4 year 54M contract was a mistake?
The Time Lord could be had for a matching contract and some future 1st’s. SMH
He is a Lord. Not just some Time Chump. The contract he signed is one of the best values in the entire NBA. And I am a T’wolves fan.
These blogs are here for many to express their frustration or hear themselves. Same w these analysts. They make up absurd rumors.
For examples, TimeLord is a gem Celtics have been needing for years & years & we’re going to dump him? Then this crap about breaking up Jayson & Jaylen making the rounds? Jeez!
Do not deal Robert Williams, Brown, or Tatum. I like the deal with the bulls for Troy Brown Jr and a draft pick. Keep Aaron Nesmith as he brings energy and life to the Celtics. Back to Brown, he would also bring some defense and energy to the Celtics. BTW, the Celtics are finally healthy for the first time in like 2.5 years and they have won 9 of the last 11. Now sit at a record of 27-25.
Def haven’t won 9 of 11
It took a relaxed 45 seconds to go look up the Celtics are 7-4 in their last 11
Still better than the “star studded” El Lakers.
With Lonzo out for the season and Chicago in win now mode, I think both sides should consider a Coby White for Schroeder swap framework with whatever other minor pieces.
Makes no sense contract wise, Schroder is a rental, Ball could be back for plYoffs, Ayo is filling in admirably.
I’m sure a team in win now mode at the top of the conference would much rather a more reliable PG in Schroeder than someone like White who’s been solid in an increased role lately, but most likely will price himself out of Chicago in FA after next season and I didn’t say it’d have to be a 1-1.
Ball and Caruso will be back before the playoffs. Only way they deal White is for an all star caliber player. They were dangling him for Grant. They sure as hell wouldn’t give him away for a low level and expiring deal in Schroeder.
Outside of FVV (which isn’t happening) I don’t really see a fit at all between BOS and TOR on a Williams deal.
Celtics are in a weird spot where we need quality depth but have little to offer outside of our top 4 and it’s unlikely moving any of those guys will get us a return to make us better.
Nah Troy Brown Jr & a 2nd isn’t worth Schroeder but I believe the Celtics & the Bulls would do Ayo Dusumo for Schroeder & 2nd.
Lol, have you watched Ayo at all? Obviously you have trying to lowball the Bulls like this…
Hello no
Ayo is not getting traded.
Sure, Celtics & Stevens will have to get salary under cap somehow. But rumors & speculation about trading TimeLord, he’s core, are utterly ridiculous. Trading Marcus Smart, coming into his own as a point guard, finally as IT, Rozier, Kyrie & Kemba are gone, also make us Celtics fans sick. He’s got the team moving now. Josh Richardson is also doing his job well, moving the ball, adding to our defense, and scoring. It would be tough to see any of our youngsters go since they will become good rotational players once given the chance. That leaves Denis Schroeder unfortunately as the lone man out with owners demanding being under the cap by Feb 10th.
You are overrating the celtics youngsters IMHO. Similarly to Williams they are it that good.
The celtics sadly lost ground with the kyrie signing and it’s aftereffects and the fact they couldn’t get any top free agent to join them
Good point. I may be overrating Romeo Langford, Payton Pritchard & Aaron Nesmith but who knows since none are getting real minutes.
The Denis trade for tax cut (Cavs or Bulls who don’t have cap Space to resign him).
I’ld a trade like BolBol+Romeo+PJ and a pick for Mo Bamba.
Horford in a dump salary for Saric and Jalen Smith or pick
Celtics will move Schroder. Cause they can’t pay him next yr. So it’s better to get value for him now. Still say they need a rim protector. Williams isn’t one.
Williams is a midget out there at center
I’ve been saying this for months now, the current team composition isn’t flawed, it’s not being used to accentuate it’s strengths and that’s Coaching. Reevaluate player use rather than player replacement!
Schroder is decent but doesn’t really fit the Bulls system. They need strong defenders right now, not having any trouble putting up points.
